I'll always love the series but yes, they do eventually have to start new with another storyline. I'm not exactly sure about it being set in an "alternet reality" and I don't really want Bioware to create all new alien races or anything like
that. They may as well put another title on and forget that it's a Mass Effect game. I love the Turians & Asari etc...It would be sad to leave it all behind ( I have an emotional bond with the characters..Garrus mostly:kissing:) but whatever it is though, I'll probably take a shot at it. Can't leave it all behind!:)

An Alternate Universe would likely still have Asari, Turians, Salarians, Batarians and everyone else. The only things I imagine being different is Reapers not being around along with Shepard and Comapny.

I'm perfectly fine with them going with a new protagonist and telling a new story. I knew ME3 would be the end of Shepard's story, and I was prepared for that.

I was not prepared for his send off to be this flipping awful, however. And this, I think, is where people have the problem. Even after the EC, we have no real closure. We have Shepard taking a breath which according to the devs "oh, it could be Shepard surviving, but it could also be him dying!" Because that's what people want. Their Shepard to be ambigously alive or dead. That ending would have been fine if this was the second game in the series or if Shepard's story was going to go on.

But it's not. This is Shepard's end, and we're given no closure in regard to him/her. We're just shown he kindasortapossiblymighthave survived.

Great.

oh trust me, I am just as furious about that whole mess as everyone else. However i have finally come to terms with the truth and accepted that we wont be getting what we want. So instead I just look towards the future.

They just have to set it far enough in the future that the choices of the OT aren't that apparent or relevant anymore. I object to a prequel or side story. I also object to a reboot and alternate reality, unless it was really quite better that what I can presume.

No matter how far into the future you go something like Synthasis will ALWAYS be relevent. That forever alters all life in the galaxy. Something like that does not simply become irrelevent.

You are a space pirate, and have to slowly build your piece of crap ship and crew into something awesome by the end, and you then raid some such important building and steal the big loot(Mirandas panties) from the sheppard museum.

I suppose it's too much to hope the next game will be Mass Effect 3: The Mulligan?

To me setting the next game in an alternate reality would be same as admitting ME3 was so bad they don't know how to continue the franchise, and if that's the case then they need to move on to a new IP instead of trying to ring every cent they can get out of the Mass Effect name.

Ok but if it isnt? would you still buy it? There are many ways to tell a story after all. You would rather take the risk of having your person ending to ME3 be made Not canon? I know I personally wouldn't want to risk it.

They don't need to pick a canon ending, they can make ME4 with the 3 endings with some minor changes.

They screwed up the ending and refuse to fix it... why would I buy another one of their sub par products?

As Mr Priestly has stated, he disagrees with people thinking it can only be a prequal or a sequal. Now sure many of you might think he is full of crap, I myself am guilty of this on occasion, however I think this time hes trying to actually tell us the game plan without getting into trouble. Basiclly I think "ME4" will boil down to this, alternate reality Mass Effect where there never were any Reapers to begin with. This lets them avoid having to pick a canon ending and thus pissing people off, and also avoids a boring Prequal that while -possibly- interesting would ultimately probably not be too successful.

What do you think? Would you be at all interested if the next games are in an alternate reality without Reapers?

So in other words, a reboot.

Though I imagine that will just ****** people off more than the current situation does.

Then why are you still here? If Bioware doesn't have anything for you, there's no point to sticking around.

ME3's ending is subjective -- I, for one, like it.

Well first off you can't not have a sequel or a prequel its either one or the other so that's crap right there it basically says they're wishy washy and can't commit at this point I could say thats fine if they haven't got to the story board stage yet but if they've already started planning ME4 then they should've already figured this out and if they haven't thats bad right there another not planed game is on its way. Making it up as you go along is a great on paper idea but not in real life when you're making money.

Second no to the AU idea that's utter crap.

If they just do what fable does move forward in time so far infact people have gotten over the reapers and or do not even remember them because they've been gone for so long. 50K in the future does that allows you to start over w/o having a cannon ending from ME3. Let's face it BW isn't going to make anything you did in ME - ME3 matter anyway.

You do realize how long 50,000 years is, right? The MEU would effectively no longer exist at that point.

I want same universe, but for it to be completely unrelated to the stuff that happened in ME1-3.

And no reapers = no rachnii rising = no raising up of the Krogan.

So no Krogan then. Which would be a shame.

And not something I would buy.

most likely a spin-off.
I would like to see the events between ME1 and ME2 ( Garrus's story, Tali's pilgrimage, Wrex's take over of Tuchanka etc.)

I'm all for invalidating the endings. But an alternate timeline seems a bit excessive.

I would not by a new bioware game until it hit the ten dollar bin at my local store or amazon like i did for dragon age 2. I think bioware is a good company and I enjoy their games. I just think base on what they did for mass effect 3 they are not worth full box pricing. I'd paid them what I think their artistic integrity is worth. 10 dollars.

that's the whole point. By setting it in the same universe in an alternate timeline, they won't be invalidating any of the endings. If they make a game taking place after the events of ME3, then they would most likely have to canonize and ending invalidating the other 2.

(I'm all for making a game that takes place after the Shepard trilogy, just so long as it carries over our ME3 ending choice. But that seems impossible, or atleast that's what many believe. So the only way not to invalidate the endings is to make the setting the same but in an alternate reality)
