I have this posted on the Tech Forum, along with many others, and the folks with this issue don't seem to be getting much help...from the folks who should help....Bio Ware
I guess once they have my $$$, I better not hold my breath when I need help. thanks Bio Ware..
Maybe a fellow gamer can help. I'm playing single player..not online.
I made no changes to my computer, just took a break for a few days to play an older Might & Magic game. Came back to DAO and no saved games appear for loading. The "load games" line is not even highlighted.
Searched around but can't find any save games folder in the C file one of the other posters suggested.
I've system restored to another date, no luck.
Created another character, same name, played, saved, reloaded hoping the other save games might appear...nope...
Tried whatever I could find in the other posts regarding this issue with no luck.
Reluctant to start again, since many hours of game play, creating and buffing two different characters, is shot to hell.......Yes, it was fun doing all that, but, that's not the point....We pay a hefty price for something and it should let you experience the whole game...to it's completion....not a portion of it, before you loose everything you worked long and hard to accomplish.
I understand, with the complexity of games and computers, anything can happen. And, I have no problem with issues that might arise. But, how a company treats you, AFTER THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY, is what counts in my book....and Bio Ware fails in the HONOR department......big time....

The save games are in folders with your character's names. Try searchin your computer for one of those names.

Torias..thanks for the info..I checked customer support with no luck.. Tried to e mail them and it keeps telling me to log in. I try to do this, with the user name etc that I use on this forum and it won't accept it. No matter what I type, it tells me that it's an invalid user name or password.
I clicked..the "forgot" tab, even though I didn't..and it says an e mail has been successfully sent.
It never came. So, I do thank you for your attempt to help me..but, what can I say..
Since I can't get them to help, or figure out what's wrong by myself, I guess playing any Bio Ware games isn't in the cards for me.
Thanks again...

Sadly, as expected, Bio's Customer Service is for the birds. One way to get out of helping folks with issues is to make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to reach anyone.
No matter when, or what I try, I get the "invalid" window when I'm asked to log in at the Customer Service site. I've tried three times to get them to send me a "forgot" response so I could log in but they DON'T EVEN BOTHER RESPONDING to that.
Tells me what I suspected about Bio Ware......TAKE THEIR MONEY AND LAUGH ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK....
That tells me what I need to know about Bio Ware and what they think of the folks who paid a hefty price for their game.

you must be on the pc cuse on the xbox it is damn near impossible to delete your saves even on purpose. you have to go into the systeam memory and hunt them down and delete them. took me a month to figure it out.

I've found that I can start a game and then load into the game after I start a new character. That is if you have the save file.

Dragon Age saves games in the characters folder which can be found at:
C:\\Users\\[your user name here]\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Characters
If this folder is empty (or nonexistent) then your save games have ether been moved or deleted. In the future I recommend backing up your save games to an external source (such as a DVDor external HD0 to avoid losing your saves if your computer ****s up.

I had this same issue a few weeks ago. It came to be that my HDD was failing, and, as such, many random documents would just "disappear." I don't necessarily mean to imply you have faulty hardware, but perhaps it's a conclusion worth investigating.
At either rate, best of luck to you.

When you "system restored", all bets were off. We have no way of know what you did to your PC by that act alone. For all I know now, you've completely wiped your "My Documents" folder out, which is where Bioware stores all of your save files in Windows.
Your save game files should be located at:
C:\\Users\\<YourUsername>\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Characters (if you're on Win7) or the equivalent location under your "My Documents" on WinXP.
If you look inside the Characters folder, you will see one subfolder per character name that you created. Under those folders is another folder called "Saves" that holds your individual save files.
By creating a new character of the same name as the previous one, you likely wiped out anything that would have been saved before.
Do you have a "little brother" who might have messed with your computer?

Hi folks. EJ42, I'm my own "little brother", aka....my own worst enemy. But, this time I didn't do anything to cause the issue....notice I said, "this time"..
At the time the save games vanished, I had done nothing to the computer. Only the daily, virus updates. I took a break to play another game that was already installed. After a few days, went back to DAO and the games were gone.
I had not created a 2nd character yet. I did that when one post indicated it might bring up the other save games. It didn't
I tried all the stuff I found in the "search" posts, and only Sys Restored after nothing else worked and Bio Ware hadn't helped. I didn't know it might wipe stuff.
But, it didn't. I believe I've found the save games/characters where you folks said they'd be, but right clicking brings up many options. And, being no computer genius, I don't know what to do with them.....be nice....
Just a wee bit more help on what to do now that I've found them. You've got me this far..
cmathews03..I don't know what HHD is but I hope it's not the hardware. The computer's only 3 months old and Falcon is a looooong way from Alaska. Shipping's a killer.
I will back up on an external drive. Damn good idea. I'll start doing that with games, not just other stuff.
Anybody know what might have caused this issue. I'm not the only one this has happened to. No changes were made to the computer, only played a different game for a little while.
Thanks to everybody..

Ok. Here's a silly question. When you turn on your computer, do you have to log in? I mean to say, do you get a login prompt where you have to put in your username and password, or does it just take you straight to the desktop?
The reason I ask is because, if you were logged in as Administrator when you first played the game, but logged on as "Taarnah" (or whatever your username is on your PC) when you tried to play again, then the "My Documents" folder would be different, and the game would not find your files.
Do this, look under C:\\Users (for Win7) or "C:\\Documents and Settings" (for WinXP) to see how many folders are under there. You should see one for each account. For example, mine shows "EJ42", "Public", and a hidden "Default" folder.
For each folder you find, click down through them to the equivalent of "My Documents", and look for a Bioware folder. Write that information down (meaning make a note of how many accounts have Bioware folders). If you have more than one, then please post back here about that.
It may just be that you need to log into your computer under the correct account for the game to be able to see your files.

How is that hard? You go to memory, select the game, and then select the saves to be deleted.
It couldn't be easier.

Hi EJ42..Thanks for the input..I don't log in..just go to desktop. Several times when looking for info on the Forum, I'd get a notice that "you must be an Administrator to use" etc...so I'm not one.
Sadly, I'm no longer running XP...Vista's the demon in this CPU. As I said earlier, I think I found the games/characters files/folders. But, right clicking on the icon gives me many options and I don't know what to do. If I've actually found the damn things, how do I get them back where they belong.....where ever that is....
If I start another game, (besides backing to an external drive) what, if anything, can I do to prevent this "save game lost" issue. Played many a game and never had that happen before. At this point, I'm just curious as to what might have happened.

Hi Darth Obvious....If someone's not familiar with something, it's new to them, or they're trying to learn/figure it out on their own, it's not always that easy.
If someone takes the time to try and help another, it's nice...I'm personally, grateful that considerate, fellow gamers are trying to help me...
This Forum has a very pleasant atmosphere...tolerant, helpful folks..please help keep it that way.
Thanks everybody..

C:\\Users\\[your user name here]\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Characters\\Franpa
The above is an example for a character named "Franpa". so put your characters folder in the same place C:\\Users\\[your user name here]\\Documents\\\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\\\Characters\\
And see if the game will recognize them. Do keep in mind you want to use single \\\\'s but this forum keeps doubling the \\\\ for no reason.

I have the same trouble, but not exactly. I have two files, one is BioWare with Dragon Age, and another I can't remember the name of. I renamed it, and now the saved games wont load because I renamed it, I think. I have no idea what the name was, sadly... >.<
