Do they pay you to be a pretentious, misinformed ass on internet forums?

Yes. Except the misinformed part. I do that myself.

Who's the idiot that believes every word written on a forum? Man, I love pushing buttons to the easily pushed.

Some of the people on these forums are the one I've been testing this with and most players here were already aware of this so no one has to believe anything they already knew about it before it went mainstream!

Peole like you self are still  in the dark however.

Sorry that my general comment caused Lord Sirian and his boy toy Annomander to jump me. :crying:

Been on forums for 20 odd years. I don't get your meaning.

If i understand correctly, fps affects not accuracy per se, but AI update frequency of player location or something ?
So, at low fps, AI will be shooting at point A while already at point B, because he's too slow to update in time ?

He means you're a clueless idiot and you're showing your ignorance with every post you make.

You know... the same thing I've been saying to you ever since you came out with this immortal line:

For the record, you can have latency while hosting especially if you are on a shared connection. Someone could be streaming off the wifi while Im hosting and can cause issues. So hosting is not a definitive lag free environment. Especially when your on cable and the whole neighborhood is sharing it.

Three people tying in and downloading all that info from the person hosting wouldn't cause any issues? LOL......yeah and Im Ghandi. Sure the person hosting will be far better off than the hostees, but you're still putting strain on the connection.

Maybe this explains why sometimes on Gold I end up eating far more shots than my teammates who stand in the open and those times that a pair of phantoms in a hallway will lazer blast drop me as I run past the hallway while my teammates run past just fine.

Something like that, yes, if the AI were programmed to shoot at the location you were 10 frames ago instead of some time ago then this is the behavior you will get.

P2P networks allocate BW. I dont understand what you dont get about that. HW. causes latency. You fiddling with refresh rates, causes latency. People on cable are joined on an ENTIRE shared network. Even certain ISP's, their frameworks share BW. It doesnt have to necessarily be your PC. Its everything having to do with hosting a connection. Man, people always complaining about on host DR for Phantoms. I dont. Never have. I have other issues with unkillable units. Could be an engineer, could be a Geth Hunter, could be anything.

It explains why some games feel harder than others because you switch host all the time but it has nothing to do with being a higher priority  however. You can read Cyonan's thread on aggro mechanics for that one.

This game has a forced vsync, so no matter how fast your video is, it will lower if your monitor rate drops. On most flat screen LCD types, this means 60 fps. I've noticed in the load screens it locks to 30 fps.

About host calculations...not all of this is done in host. Most of what you mention is indeed host only. Rules as to whether you were capable of hitting or getting hit depend on the host. Rules to where you can be are on the host...this is why there is rubber-banding in lag, your computer is getting set back to what the host thinks you are.

There is a small amount of information that IS dependent on the off-host though...fine aiming comes to mind. When you set up that head shot, there is no way it would work if there were a quarter second or half second delay from the round trip to the host. Frame rate will have a profound effect on how easy it is to fine-aim, and thus a small part of the game (but an important part) does indeed get modified by a fast frame rate.

Also, if you use warp or throw, and it tracks to the target but does no damage, this proves the animation is off-host while actual impact rules are host-only. Animations are always local to the off-host. FYI, this is why a network can lose an event and animations like throwing a grenade appear to work but it doesn't actually do anything (consider that as long as you have a grenade in inventory, it will always work...host will never disagree without a major network failure).

There is another case I speculate about, and not sure of. That is the case of whether hits to a target with some weapons can be a "glancing" blow, thus causing less damage. It does not seem possible that a bullet type weapon could have a partial damage or reduced damage without this rule...and with network lag, damage seems to sometimes be reduced even if the target is hit. So it seems that possibly a glancing blow is considered, and that this is host-dependent, while fine aim like a head shot is off-host dependent.

Hit testing on enemies is performed off host.

Hit testing on players is performed on host.

I switched from 15 fps to 60 fps (new PC) 3 weeks ago. Difference I noticed:

(1) I die a lot more when running around in the open with a squishy character (used to be indestructible, LOL). Then I get better somewhat - may be the new keyboard was stiff at first?

(2) Headshots are a lot easier to get. I can actually snipe now.

Thanks OP, nice to see an actual breakdown of the effects.

I never have the framerate monitor on, but I do have v-sync enabled which I believe locks it at 60fps. Note to all - I said I believe, not I know.

Good to know that my CPU/MoBo/RAM situation isn't going to amp the difficulty any further than my GPU already can. Still, I always remember that no one of my friends really enjoyed playing on my host, and it was because of enemy accuracy and not lag. Thus, I rarely if ever host.

Vsync locks the FPS at your monitor's refresh rate.

That cutoff will already happen to an extent when it cuts from 60 down to 30, will it not?

I've tried playing games at ridiculously high framerates and never really noticed a big difference much past 60. Might try again sometime soon, but I don't have the setup to run ME3 @ 120 FPS and max settings. :P

Do you have a 120hz monitor? If not then you wouldn't notice any difference in most circumstances.

Ok, 3 pages and we already are getting console war posts here, I guess bragging rights about soloing platinum at higher FPS will come next. The reasons I didn't want to post it in the first place. Get your flameshields ready folks.

Which is why I just made a general, off-hand comment. The PC guys got offended and needed to uphold their e-peen. I have the game on both versions anyways.

No it's a war between the stubborn and the stubborn. It's always been this way on BSN and things will never change.
