Speaking of Caesar. What they are doing with him in the show makes me want to punch through a wall.

Seriously the man who conquered Gaul through military capability AND political manipulation. One of the greatest generals Rome ever had reduced to this....****ing ****?!

I have know idea, I don't like how Caesar is portrayed either. Especially considering that he, Crassus and Pompey formed the Triumverate after the Third Servile war making him one of the most powerful men in the Republic and later outmanoeuvred Pompey politically after the death of Crassus in the Parthian campaign.

I kinda prefer Caesar from HBO's ROME, tbh.

Although the one in Spartacus is much better-looking, I can't get past that whole creepy business of a couple of weeks ago. Image IPB

Personally my favorite Caesar is Timothy Dalton in the 1999 Cleopatra Film.

Also my favorite Spartacus and Crassus are both in the 2004 mini-series. That said I really like Crassus here so far.

I really liked this episode and the season so far! It's nice to see (you know what I mean ^^) the rebels on the verge of slowly turning into a miniature version of the very depraved society they set out to overthrow.

Naevia still bothers me a lot. I'd be much more interested in her whole arc since the end of Blood &Sand if they had kept the original actress. Cynthia Addai-Robinson is very good as the more fierce, warrior type Naevia we have now, but I have serious problems seeing her as the same character once played by Lesley-Ann Brandt. Season 1 Naevia was... softer, more innocent. To see this delicate creature transform into the deeply disturbed killer we have now would have been really interesting imo. Instead we saw a woman kill Ashur with whom he rarely (if ever) shared the screen, and that scene and pretty much everything else just felt wrong. Probably my single biggest problem with the series besides Lucretia's resurrection.

Gannicus is just awesome. I...got nothing more to say. He's the man!

I started liking Tiberius a bit, and I'm interested how his rivalry with Caesar will continue now that he ****ed up. Caesar himself is just ****ing weird. I missed Crassus, he might really become a unique and satisfying replacement for the great villains we had so far!

Absolutely that's one of the bigger problems with Naevia in that there is such a disconnect with her character between Season 1 and Season 2 and 3.

I get what they are trying to do in the last two episodes, but I don't really like it. I mean since when have the rebels been hypocrites? It's almost like they're trying to plant seeds of disdain between the audience and the rebels (and adversely trying to make us like some of the new Roman characters like Marcus Crassus) so that when they inevitably all die we don't feel that bad.

They are not hypocrites. They want blood, vengeance and bloody murder on the Romans, since when has that changed? I mean the second season was called Vengeance for a reason.

It's not like the slaves didn't already kill innocents before, because they had in both Season 1 and 2. Now it's on a much larger scale and I think it was easier to ignore.

I don't like Naevia mind you and I certainly tthink she is over the top, but what Crixus did? Not surprising. The butchering and treatement of the romans, not surprising.

Also historically this what the slaves did. They butchered, raped and plundered. Hell historians like myself very much doubt Spartacus was fighting for freedom for all slaves. He was trying to escape Italy then changed his mind and decided he wanted to do more looting, raping and plundering.

True. Can't really argue any of that.

I guess I just feel like showing them basically making slaves of the Romans goes against the way they've characterized the main rebels up to this point. It's not hard to believe, but it does seem a little out of character to me.

I will say though, Gannicus is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. I loved what they did with him in Vengeance, and he just gets better and better with each episode. He, Crixus, and Spartacus have been my favorites since the start (Gannicus joined that list in vengeance, I didn't like him a whole lot when I first saw him in gods of the arena)

So I saw the latest episode. ****ing Crixus needs to get hold of his senses and Naevia as well.

They are truly animals, except for Gannicus perhaps, who is merely in between, and of course Spartacus. Well played however from Caesar, well ****ing played.

It's not bad Arianus, Crassus is bloody amazing and there is something very well done about Spartacus has become and what Gannicus is becoming as well.

Me as well! Also good to see his empathic side.
Sure was an intense episode, and well directed by Michael Hurst.

And Crassus really is amazing. Decimation is so brutal!

Indeed, Crassus is amazing. I thought he was brilliant in the first episode and hoped he continued to be, not only as a battle commander and fighter, but a shrewed, ruthless leader and politician. (Yes, I always like the most competent antagonists, Tywin, Crassus, Letho, Emhyr. I always find them so much more interesting than protagonists. )

I see what the whole sado masochistic thing when we first met Caesar was about now! The slave was carving a gouge in his leg, to infiltrate the rebel encampment under the orders of Crassus maybe? If so, I may have jumped to conclusions with my thoughts on what he was up to initially. Although it would explain why he would keep it secret from Tiberius, as Crassus only reveals it in this episode.

Gannicus has always been a favorite of mine. Crixus' woman needs to die, I'm starting to loath her, and enjoyed it when Gannicus gave her a good belt across the face.

I'm happy they followed the historical track in this one with the use of decimation, and explained it quite well. How it was revived, since when it had been used last, the barbaric nature etc. It might be embellishment that he put his own son in the lot, but it just makes Crassus look even more ruthless, devoid of the trait of nepotism. And adds some cudos to his son, Tiberius, as I thought him a bit of a brat, but I'm starting to like him more now he's being treated like a soldier and mans up even though the look on his face when he's told to join his soldiers is one of shock.

Just finnished last episode and I tend to agree with the rest of the thread. Crassus is a great antogonist. Crixus and Naevia are really becoming annoying (She needs to get over herself). Gannicus is awesome as usual and Ceasar really stole the episode for me. I couldn't help but favor him the entire time.

Also the decimation scene was pretty intense. But its great that they putted it in.

Crassus...! Serioúsly, what a villain! Tiberius and Caesar start gaining more and more of my (slightly disturbed) respect as well. I never imagined I wouldn't miss Ashur, but with these Romans and the proceeding moral descent of the slaves there are enough bad things going on without him. Decimation... ****! Hm, Crassus and Caesar kinda feel a bit like Batiatus and Ashur at times, seeing how well they play their games of deceit and intrigue.

With every episode I wish more we could watch the original nice Naevia completely lose it. Damn, that **** is sick! And given what happened to her it's not that much of a surprise that she... isn't well. Looks like Crixus is really going to choose her frenzy over Spartacus' idea of the cause they're fighting for. Good thing poor Onomaeus doesn't have to witness all this honourless savagery...

Gannicus' awesomeness is just beyond words! Who else can give Crixus, his warrior woman and a few others a beating like this? Hopefully he comes out of it or at least dies with most of his integrity still intact. At times I wish he would just take Saxa and the slave (fan)girl and get the hell out of the nuthouse the city (and the rebel army with it) has become.

I don't know about anyone else here, but I'm actually really starting to enjoy Tiberius. He's gone from arrogant **** to a sympathetic hardened character. I mean, damn, being forced to beat your own friend to death with a club! That's just ****ing harsh. It just goes to show that the Romans are marginally better than the rebellion they're trying to bring down. Of course, I'll still continue to root for them. The rebellion only spreads chaos.

Decimation scene in the latest episode was brutal. Also am starting to enjoy Tiberius. It was kind of like Spartacus having to kill Varro in the first season, only not as intense.

Onomaeus would've sorted them all out! I reckon he would've been able to keep Crixus in line and remind him of the virtues of honour... But yeah, didn't like the new naevia in the third season and only liked her in the first episode of this season. She really needs to get her thirst for roman blood under control.

Really brutal episode once again. The scene with Fabia was heart-breaking and brought tears to my eyes. It was really powerful to see an emotional and compassionate side of Caesar, which his character needed. He has become a lot more interesting in this episode, now that the slave cutting in his leg has been explained and he has displayed his ruthless cunning besides the previous arrogant bravado.

Naevia is dragging Crixus down with her in her insanity. It's unfortunate that Crixus remains so loyal to her that he fails to see how damaged she truly is. Saying that she just need to get it together is too harsh, imo. She really is what the Romans made her. They turned a kind, rather timid woman into this aggressive monster. Sad as it is, seeing Gannicus give both of them a beating was pretty awesome. For a moment I was afraid that Naevia had actually killed Gannicus when she hit him with the rock.

Decimation was awful as well. Tiberius has learned his lesson, but it clearly cost Crassus his son. "Imperator." Father-son bond destroyed.

I agree with this paragraph here. I really hope that the creators behind the show make a spinoff series involving Caesar. They could seriously turn this into Saga covering various events and famous figures of Roman history.

She is what she is, and there's no excuse for her actions. I don't believe she can change, she's fallen too far for that.

I want to get into this series, so I checked a few things out without spoiling myself. But like....Caesar looks like crap. This is not what a Roman noble would look like...
