I have beat DAO on nightmare multiple times and it was a walk in the park. I have also played DA2 on hard mode for a while. I try to make my "canons" on the hardest difficulty. I did a bit of research on blood mage builds and strategy. My companion system is one other mage as a supporter or debuffer. A warrior to tank/defend. Then a rogue. I strategize and plan and somehow I blow a lot of my money on health potions. One of my companions usually dies during a non-easy fight and the rest only have like 30% of health left. I do not know what to do!!! Should I just forget it and make my canon on hard or can any of you offer advice?Posted Image

Have you checked the class and Companion Guides compilation here in the forum? It's awesome to say the least. If you already did, then I don't know if I can be of much help to you.

Some useful things that I've figured out regarding nightmare difficulty:
# Unlike Origins, having a high DPS party setup is probably more battle-effective than a defensive one with more durability.
# Having a lot of different elemental staves handy, to counter immunities and take advantage of elemental weaknesses makes short work of enemies.
# Electricity based spells, namely chain lightning and tempest don't cause FF even in nightmare. So, they can be used incessantly without caring about positioning and keeping an eye out for your companions. Having elemental resistance runes in your tank's rune slots is also necessary if you like nuking.
# Setting the tactics of companions effectively can go a long way in preventing headaches in the heat of the battle and taking full advantage of CCC's. SuicidalBaby's Tactics guide helped a lot.
# Using the mabari can make battles much easier.
# Force mage abilities are very useful to destealth those pesky assassins and hunters.
# Focus firing throught tactics is also useful to quickly take out high priority targets or any enemy for the matter of fact.

If you have the time to spare, I'd say just keep going in nightmare. Your canon deserves it. Posted Image

Oh! anyone think I should switch to spirit healer? (I don't mind starting over)

The consensus on the forums seems to be "offense is your best defense" - so make Anders a Spirit Healer (if you want) but take BM and/or FM instead.

I agree with Frostmourne86 above. I guess an extra healer in the party would only delay the inevitable. Anders has proven to be a competent enough healer for me with his personal talent tree allowing for faster cooldowns of spells, thanks to Martyr and Swift Justice. In fact, I only had to use potions in the high dragon battle. Everything else adds to the purse.

I'd suggest you take a look at the various Ander's build in the guides.

Yeah, I know how to use Anders well enough. I just don't bring him all of the time.
Nightmare is hard I'm going back to Origins for a while.  :P

Yup it's too easy. Nightmare in Origins is a lil bit harder but it's also too easy. Especially during the Blight battle xD One hit = dead, Oh well even Arch Demon is too easy if u call magisers to support you :P Then BAM, go Loghain kill and die already! Thats why I've spared u after all xD
Sorry for so much chat, I've finished Origins yesterday for the first time in my life :P It's time for Awakening ^^

On 2nd time its became much easier. I'm currently playing a 2h templar/reaver on NM with only Merill (Creation and Entropy) in party and never using any pots. Enemies are much slower than you so you can easily avoid their hits. My tactics for every battle is: 1. unload all curses and kill assassin before they go stealth 2. run around and kill all archers 3. kill melee enemies.
