Hey there,

I recently bought a D&D collection including both Baldur's Gates and all expansions with the idea to replay all those great classics whose cd's have been broken/missing/gone for years. After a few false starts I got underway in BGI-tutu with an evil swashbuckler dualclassed to mage. As Sarevok is very near his demise I'm starting to think about the carryover to SoA, party formation in particular.

I always played good parties, but the choices for an evil party in BGII vanilla are rather limited. Obviously I'll pick up Korgan, Viconia and Edwin. Together with my swashbuckler/mage all basic elements are there, so the question is how to fill up the two last slots. I would say roleplay considerations outweigh gameplay, but it would be nice to have another tank/dps dealer and some extra healing capability. I am considering the following options, though other suggestions are of course welcome:

Anomen: I think having a failed knight is well placed in my party of general misfits. My question is if he can put up with his evil companions long enough (or they with him) to complete the quest before they kill him. Or do they eventually kill him regardless?

Mazzy: Despite being a paladin in training, she can get along with
evil characters nonetheless, and I've read she has some fun interactions
with Korgan.

Jan: His thieving and mage skills might be a bit superfluous, but Jan is a fun addition to every party.

Haer'Dalis: A useful npc and a neutral that probably fits an evil party best, but I just don't like him very much.

I am playing BG II vanilla. I'm not looking for hardcore/difficulty mods or things that add more content, but if anyone can recommend any mods that provide minor fixes or tweaks, please do.

Afaik Mazzy will stay with you if you do her quest and have at least 7 rep & Anomen is fine as long as you don't make him a knight.

For mods to install, the essential for me is the G3 fixpack, and the widescreen mod if you haven't done so already. That shouldn't change the game except only slightly and for the better IMO.

What about Jaheira or even Cernd? You get a neutral backup fignter, a little healing, and druid magic, particularly the Insect spells.

ussnorway: Thanks. I intended to stay between 8-10 rep anyway, which I think fits an evil party that is intelligent enough not to draw too much attention to itself.

PPP: Installed the G3 fixpack and some minor parts of the BG2 tweak pack, cheers.

morbidest2: I should probably have mentioned that Jaheira was out of the question, as I've had her in my party quite often in good runs. I'll give Cernd a shot though, thanks for pointing him out. The modifications to his wolfwere shapechange ability from the tweak pack should make him a viable fighter if need be.

I recently did an evil playthrough with a Kensai/Thief and suffered the same problem, I couldn't figure out who else to add besides the 3 evil guys. I ended up with Haer'Dalis, who is suprisingly very effective once geared up properly, and Imoen but she basically didn't do anything but soak up XP because Edwin is all the mage anyone needs. I never used HD before because I found him extremely annoying but I figured I might as well use him once...but I replaced him with Sarevok in TOB. I tried using Aerie and changed her alignment to Chaotic Evil due to the corrupting influence my evil character but she and Korgan don't get along and left the party heh.

Don't forget you can use Shadowkeeper and change NPC's alignment to whatever you want.
