Dead Space 3 forums in a rage.

I know this seems strange, but I can't seem to find it. Link?

Looks like EA is once again reaping what it sows.

I have played it for a while now. I admit the first part wasn't really on par with my taste, but after the first initial mission, it's pretty fun. Thus far, there doesn't seem to be a wide margin of difference between DS2 and this one.

The reviews on it seems quite mixed. It isn't getting just "bad" reviews. Some reviews actually score it very high. As seen here.

That being said, so far I really like it.

Even several positive reviews seem to agree its good for newcomers...current fans not so much. Gears of War crowd.

What if you're an "old Dead Space timer" and like Gears of War? Or is it impossible to like both? You seem really intent on hating this game.

I am and I dislike DS3.   Ahaha.

It's too bad you feel that way. You dislike it and I don't. Opinions and all that.

Btw, have you played it beyond the demo? Or do you dislike it based on content you've only seen? I am asking because I have PM'd a few people and asked them specifically what they disliked about it to be told they haven't actually played it because they know they won't like it. So, I am just curious.

Well, I've been playing it a while now and I understand what some reviewers meant when they said DS3 was "too long." The problem, to my mind, is that it's long unnecessarily so. It's like this, in order to advance a tiny bit of story Isaac needs to do a ton of fetch quests, all of which will be filled with wave after wave of enemies plus some mini-games in order to slow progression down (I hate most of the mini-games). Most of the time an "event" will occur that will cut our hero off from the rest of the group, forcing him to find the long way back.

Enemies are pretty damn powerful even for a casual gameplay what leads me to believe one of two things: DS3 was thought out as a coop game or it's done on purpose to encourage players to pay for powerful weapons early on. Perhaps it's a little bit of both. Weapon crafting starts becoming really useful at around chapter 10 (out of 19) but it still costs a bucketload of resources.

As for the horror element, well, it's just not there. If every time you enter a room you know you'll be set upon by dozens of necromorphs, a lot of the fear is taken out of the equation and you simply resort to spamming your attack until every single one of them is dead. Credit where credit's due, however, so props to the sound guys, since it's probably one of the few elements that still gives me the chills.

I'll do a proper review once I've finished but, at this time, I cannot see myself replaying this game and killing thousands of necromorphs over and over again. It's just not worth it.

the game has finally made the transition into third person action shooter.

I love the Dead Space series and have played through both multiple times, but it was always an action shooter, with horror and some survival elements mixed in. Dead Space 1 was really trying to be RE4 in space, but turned out to be a tense and thrilling Event Horizen reference. In space of course. Then, it found it's own niche.

The second they add a gun and a combat roll, though, "Oh, what a brotastic Gears of War rip-off". I'm not blind, and know certain things were only added for mass appeal, but come on guys, it's probably not ruined.

So is there any substantial revelations for the Marker's origins/purpose, and the Earthgov/Unitology conspiracy or is DS3 a rehash of DS2 storywise?

I'm a few hours in. The beginning was pretty good, and I actually got spooked once or twice, but after the 2nd or 3rd time a necromorph jumps from a random spot the whole game loses the ''horror'' aspect completely.
If all else I hope the story gets better... *reloading the game again*

It practically screams DLC because I'm not sure I'm willing to wait for DS4.

That's the problem I've been hearing with DS3, it feels like it was build for co-op and the scraps were put into SP, that disappoints me greatly.

At least the majority of reviewers are calling DS3 out on its faults. Averaging 78-79 on Metacritic.

Either you misunderstood or you're being purposefully dense. What I'm saying is that I'm not willing to play DS4 just to find out what happened to Isaac. I hate cliffhanger endings.
