Though it's very likely to happen, I'm uncomfortable with the image of Sten in robes, fondly telling his grandchildren of how he killed an Archdemon, ending a Blight, while my PC is sitting in a cave somewhere, slowly being driven insane by the Taint. Oh well.

He wouldn't talk to his grandchildren. They do not have families.

 Some questions:

1. Are they mammals?

2. Have they invaded and converted any lands before going to Thedas, barring their homeland?

3. What do their females look like?

4. Do they have a similar life-cycle as humans?

I'm sure they are mammals, just like dwarves and elves... but I really like the idea of a pouch, so I vote they are marsupials!

I'd guess they probably have, plenty of fodder for future stories. Aside from that, with their militant attitude about the Qun, I don't see how they could have not converted or destroyed other places before this.

I'm going to go out on a limb and think they look like Sten, but shorter and with more curves ... unless I'm right with the marsupial thing, and then they have a pouch. ;)

Qunari are born, pay taxes, and then die - but they probably have more time to pay taxes than humans do.

Do they even have money?

Edit: like the dwarf btw.

They must have - remember that story about the Crow that came there to disrupt the trade or whatnot Sten was telling Zev about? In order to trade with other nations they must at least sometimes use a common currency for those transactions, so it would be silly not to implement it everywhere- the Qunari are very practical afterall.

I always saw them as a communist society. I have a hard time seeing Sten out shopping.

Communist still use money, maybe not for frou-frou things like shoes, but for food, to pay for getting your roof thatched, a new set of leathers worked etc.

And thanks about my dwarf - took me 12 uploads of different characters with the same face to get her on here and only the rogue showed up, not the warrior I'm actually playing. The servers don't like noble female dwarf warriors from my 360 it seems.

Thought they asked for it, and then got it. If there is no personal prestige and ambition, why would one need money.

You raise a valid point, but like when I pay Kaitlyn for the sword (100 silver, not 500 silver) Sten approves and says "That is honorable" and he never questions buying things or getting rewarded with money or items... I'd think if they really didn't have their own form of currency there would be a discussion of the crassness of using coin, or about how services should be bartered, or services should just be rendered because they need doing, or something like that.

Well, he is an emissary after all.

He reacts to the merchant in Lothering as a non-problem though. He keeps the wares from the others (not selling at reasonable prices at least) so kill him and take the wares. And he values swords greatly, they are a sign of a warrior.

Oh wait - one of the things he lists as acceptable jobs for a woman is a shopkeeper, and in his story about people always trying to move out of their given role he uses a farmer becoming a merchant as an example - they have shopkeepers and merchants and trade agreements - they got to have money of some sort...

The only thing you can make fun of about the Qunari is their supposed favourite conversation piece: "no"

Everything else falls flat on its face, purely because their culture is so different to the vast majority of Thedas'.

Fine, small Qunari boys, who have nothing to do with Sten, and who haven't started rigidly following the Qun yet, ask Sten about his adventures. Meanwhile, my PC is busy babbling to himself in a cave somewhere, broken once, let's say, by Morrigan, and the second time by the Taint. I don't like this situation very much, though I daresay that Sten deserves to live more than my hopelessly good Warden.

TSamee, yes your comparision was faulty, there is virtually no resemblance between the two religions. They might adopt same practises (depends on the school of thought we are talking about), but it's for different reasons.

The Qunari believe in full equality. That every single being is here to serve the collective with a specific task that they are assigned with. But I do not think it's a caste system perse, as in it's passed from father to son. It's the elders (forgot their name) that places each Qunari in a specific field. In fact, as Sten said, they sometimes put elves in positions of power because they merit it. So their caste system seems to be more on merit, or at least that's how I understood it. So here, we might see some form of contradiction. If a woman does merit to be a warrior, why isn't she allowed? I think the position of females within the Qun has not been explained and as been left very vague. Either female Qunari are physically very weak and thus incapable of fighting whatsoever, or they have better skills in singing, poetry and the like and they are assigned to do so. Or perhaps the Qunari are suffering from population problem and infertility that women have to stay at home and not risk their lives.

Keep in mind that the Qunari, from what we know (which is limited) do not hate women or see them as inferior. They simply believe that women have other merits than fighting, but they are stil equal to men. So it's equity if you will, or at least that's how they would see it.

I wouldn't be so sure that the females aren't strong.
If they weren't at least stupidly tough, they wouldn't survive the mating, and the female is required to survive the process since she's the one having the baby. The male is expendable.

I'm tempted to make a joke addon:

FemPC: "Sten, let's do it! In my tent, NOW!"
*game over screen*

Epilogue:
"The brave Grey Warden died under mysterious circumstances. The only clue to what actualy lhappened came from her friends, who commented she died happy, but refused to elaborate further."
