Not so much as being the person the LI is cheating with but actually having to compete with another NPC for the affections of the LI with the possibility of actually losing if you don't meet specific conditions.

Didn't they kind of already do that in DA:O if the Warden romanced Alistar and he was made king?
They sure did, and they didn't make the mistress option easy to get either. And there was all sorts of angst about it.

No it's not the same thing, since Alistair and Anora are never in a relationship

I agree with this. More time and resources spent on improving romances is less spent on telling deeper and more creative stories that don't involve macking. The romances the company produces now are adequate if you like that sort of thing in your RPGs, I think.

They'd have to do it better than the Jacob thing. Bipolar, amnesiac Shep was no fun. One minute she's acting like a jilted lover, next she's thrilled to bits for him, next they're old friends, or merely colleagues. And Jacob and his new girlfriend naming their baby after his ex? It was all a bit of a mess, really, and not in a convincing way.
Indeed

Would make for really interesting roleplaying, my character knowingly going after a character that is currently in a relationship. Depending on how the game transpires who knows how it'll end up-I think it'd be interesting if my character DIDN'T succeed in the end, since hey, CHEATERS ARE BAD AND THEY SHOULD FEEL BAD.
Hell if they don't want to do it completely they could leave it to playful flirting such as 5:57-6:17.
Gordon's a married man(ironically his wife appears later in the episode at another man's house joking about being the other dude's wife).

I would like for the romances to be expanded a bit upon, but that's mostly just more dialogue and references I have in mind.

Fantasy, myth has used romance and love in so many stories. When it does appear often it plays a crucial role or has a great affect on the Hero's journey. I absolutely want this inclusion.

Besides being the third person total buttface, your character could establish that they HATE the idea, or they could be interested and then later on regret it and open up, etc etc.
Good stuff. Gooooood stuff.

Ohh, you please have to tell me how romancing someone in a game is not part of role playing.DinoSteve wrote...

This, its a god damn RPG not a dating sim.
Pressing a few heart dialogue choices must be taxing.XX-Pyro wrote...
No thanks, the romances are fine and I feel they invest enough already.
Personally I think, more flirts (even with characters you will not be able to pursue a romance with), less full fledged romances.
And yes I support the OPs idea.

Take Jacob in ME3; whoever produced that needs some remedial writing courses. The Aerie/Haer'Dalis/PC love triangle in BG2 was IMO better done.

That being said as long as it's your own actions that can potentially turn a LI into somebody else's arms, rather than it just being set in stone like Jacob was in ME3 I wouldn't be opposed to it.

I'd say no. Someone who would cheat on someone to be with you would have no trouble cheating on you if someone else comes around. Its better to be with someone who you care about and is trustworthy rather then someone who goes behind people's back.
THATS THE POINT

Hence, if they do ever decide to include that in the game, they better have a way of disposing of that character quickly and permanently from the game. Either my darker characters off them, or the good characters can banish them from the game in some other permanent way so as they are never seen again.

I would say the same amount. You find you will fill in the blanks yourself so more certainly isnt needed. Still concentration on those important moments in a growing relationship is always nice. DA2 did this very well.
The relationship aspect should always be optional and/or complimentary to the main story. Thats practically a given. Its great when it can be interwoven to add some extra emotion.
