My arguments sometimes are. I'll have to remember that you night people are really serious.
What are "night people?"
Most of them were on the old forums..
Convenient. I'd love some proof of this.
You're making a generalization that isn't true. I like the romances, but I'm hardly going to stalk you for not agreeing with me. I've been on these forums (and the old ones) through a couple of these games and I've seen some heated arguments, but nothing horrible. The shut-down forum was an unfortunate fluke, at best.
The word "People" does not assume everyone.
And my argument (though a little tongue-in-cheek) was simply that your solution is to punish everyone who likes romances because of those who can't control themselves. And you can find those people everywhere and if you take away the romances, they will only find something else to fight over.
The fact that people view the romances so passionately is actually a good reason to market them (from a business point of view). It's people who will buy the game.
The notion that romances shouldn't be in video games because they make people uncivil is about as good as saying we shouldn't make video games because they desensitize people to violence. It's not only a bad generalization, it's just not true.
*denies ever being desensitized or uncivil
That's actually a horrible reason, because it makes your entire customer base look unstable. Should weapons manufacturers advertise themselves to terrorists or radicals, market their killing power? Should [insert company here] advertise themselves to [insert passionate portion of fanbase here]? If they can survive with only that fanbase, sure--be it J. Crew with slightly upscale prep, Apple with form over function, or Subaru with "offroaders." But if they can't, then they should not focus on something that...causes large number of undesirables.
