I do not want a character I romanced to be interested in or available for any other character. That is just a big, huge, major NO.

Is this what people mean when they say "player-sexual"?

Curious.

For me its just hard to believe that our squad can really only have feelings for the PC. I always headcanon it as "they can have feelings for whoever they like, it just so happens to be us" but I do appreciate when a game gets characters to look elsewhere, such as Aveline for Donnic in DA2 and an unromanced Tali for Garrus in ME3.

I think this is what people mean by "hero-worship" and "ego-centric."

In such a case, I'm not for that. I'd like my squadmates to be more independent and feel like real people than just characters waiting for the PC to sweep them off their feet.

You know what I want?

I want a really smart, super-attractive female character (because a majority of players are male) who has absolutely no romantic interest in any PC under any circumstances.

I want her to be in a relationship with some amazing person who is not in the party. Or maybe committed to a life of chastity for religious reasons. I want it to be possible to develop a very close friendship with her -- comrades in arms and all. But if you try take things farther, I want her to shoot you down hard and even mock you for being so stupid.

That would be roleplaying. As opposed to wish fulfillment.

(And no, Aveline doesn't count, as she's designed to be the least attractive female party member in the game.)

My arguments sometimes are.   I'll have to remember that you night people are really serious.

What are "night people?"

Most of them were on the old forums..

Convenient. I'd love some proof of this.

You're making a generalization that isn't true.  I like the romances, but I'm hardly going to stalk you for not agreeing with me.  I've been on these forums (and the old ones) through a couple of these games and I've seen some heated arguments, but nothing horrible.  The shut-down forum was an unfortunate fluke, at best.

The word "People" does not assume everyone.

And my argument (though a little tongue-in-cheek) was simply that your solution is to punish everyone who likes romances because of those who can't control themselves.  And you can find those people everywhere and if you take away the romances, they will only find something else to fight over.

The fact that people view the romances so passionately is actually a good reason to market them (from a business point of view).  It's people who will buy the game.

The notion that romances shouldn't be in video games because they make people uncivil is about as good as saying we shouldn't make video games because they desensitize people to violence.  It's not only a bad generalization, it's just not true.

*denies ever being desensitized or uncivil

That's actually a horrible reason, because it makes your entire customer base look unstable. Should weapons manufacturers advertise themselves to terrorists or radicals, market their killing power? Should [insert company here] advertise themselves to [insert passionate portion of fanbase here]? If they can survive with only that fanbase, sure--be it J. Crew with slightly upscale prep, Apple with form over function, or Subaru with "offroaders." But if they can't, then they should not focus on something that...causes large number of undesirables.

Basically, "fans cannot seem to lighten up regarding their stances on romances"

Clever, prince--you should have put [Cunning] before that--but not really. Not talking about stances. I'm talking about people spending their days in the Fenris thread, people who get hot and truly upset and honestly angry when someone comes into the thread and asks, "Hey, what is the purpose of Fenris' lyrium tattoos?" Not eye-rolling, not annoyed, actually upset.

That was my point. We're saying the same thing(or at least, I tried to say what you said in less words).

For it.

But let's not be politically incorrect about this. There should be a stunningly good looking male version as well that laughs in the female PC's face when you try and pursue a relationship - and no, I'm not talking about Sebastian, who wants to be in a chaste marriage of just holding hands, but someone who flat out says "Date you? Maker, no!"

That would be great.

I understand that that was your point. But its incorrect--I'm talking about people who get angry, upset, RAEG over it. No one here is doing that.

Oh of course. That romance subforum apparently was crazy though. I wouldn't know, I wasn't there. I was with you in the MLP thread when all that stuff went down, hahaha.

Anyway, update on that poll-

I was right. Its pretty split. Too little a difference to really mean anything, no matter which side is currently ahead.

Sure, absolutely.  Have both.  Just to make the point that the other characters' lives don't revolve around the PC.

Samara. Already done.

Also, for most, any interest would be shut off rather fast and be replaced with "wow, what a ****; I dodged a bullet there" if she outright mocked you for trying to say you liked her. So I'm reasonably sure that your plan is dead in the water.

One other thing: your own wish fulfillment seems to revolve around attacking what you refer to as wish fulfillment for other people, as what you seem to want for your own game could easily be achieved if you just don't romance anyone. I wonder why this is.

Samara is the asari version of Sebastian. Chaste for the sake of The Code.

Its not the same as a companions saying "Oh, err... no." Not that they can't date ANYONE and that they wish they could, because you'd make the cut (hero-worship without the sex) but actualy just a flat out no. And then they proceed to get involved with someone else.

Again, Aveline doesn't count, because her character seems willfully oblivious that Hawke is even hitting on her.

I'm talking full on rejection. A "I think we should just stay friends, I don't think of you that way."

The Code doesn't actually require chastity. It's just her own individual choice.

I'm talking full on rejection. A "I think we should just stay friends, I don't think of you that way."

If you want less attention given to the romances, why do you want to construct an anti-romance plot that has no purpose but to annoy people and satisfy other people who like seeing the first people be annoyed?

Because it would be an incredibly short romance that would consume less resources than a side quest.

Lol, "successfully supported". There are less than 50 people, who voted with yes.

Well you're never gonna get a valid amount of people voting on the BSN to get an idea of whether or not something is accepted or otherwise.

But so far, if you took those numbers and multiplied them, it implies a split no matter what.

Which is the point, really.

Something like this would be an option. One out of however many romances there are. Some would take it, some wouldn't.

In Origins, I romanced everyone that was available(Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana, and Zevran).

In DA2, I only romanced Isabella.

Its always down to what someone's willing to do. Individual preferences and all that.

But even if I wouldn't do a romance like the one Gaider described, I'd support its inclusion as an option for people to take if they so chose.

That is exactly how you get MORE people to disagree with you.

Hell even I'm slightly compelled to switch votes and cross my arms.
