On my second play through I chose synthesis and it was an even better ending than destruction. From what I've been seeing from playing the game back to back, the people that have been saying the endings don't fit with the games are completely wrong! these endings have been great and I liked seeing all the races I helped and the wars I stopped bring people to together. In the epilog Shep kept saying she was alive I guess she didn't die in the beam and she became something else as well.
Wait, that was Shep?

That was EDI, the Normandy ship's A.I. which took on a humanoid form when it inhabited the female cyborg body you captured near the beginning.Faust1979 wrote...

Shepard, unfortunately, did die.

If you think it is the best, I respect that, I'm not here to force an ending to anyone.
Synthesis for me looked like: rape the whole galaxy, I chose destroy everytime, and still got heartbroken by the fact that the Geth and EDI died.

Don't you like a little variety in your games?

Indeed, the man loved Synthesis, let him be... on the other hand, you probably could imagine what kind of effect this topic would have on many BSN-ers.
So...why ???

I keep thinking of Mal Reynolds:
Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that.

TBH the first choice of me was synthesis. Before the EC... thought it was the best, I soon found out I made a big mistake, reloaded and chose destroy instead. So yes, I do know what happened in Synthesis pre-CE. It was my first choice.
And i did destroy every single playthrough every time again. I wanted that "breath"

(too abstract, but that's the apparent gist of synthesis, imo)

My distaste for synthesis stems from the fact the we were doing just fine resolving most of these conflicts and uniting a diverse galaxy before synthesis, which not only violates everyones right to self determinate but also basically acknowledges that even our best effort to bring about peace were futile without the help of the green wave of forced friendship, frankly I find it insulting on several levels.

otherwise, evolution wouldn't even be needed, nor would technology, or then, any need to learn/grow/live long and prosper, to coin a phrase.

That's the point. "Does this unit have a soul?" The idea that we're more than the sum of our parts was displayed quite vividly and than we're given a "lol nope" option. And if we can't over come our nature than the Rachni and Krogan are going to screw over the galaxy regardless, synthesis or no.Wayning_Star wrote...
but, Nature doesn't care in the least about 'self determination'. Nature is actually calling the shots..thats the gripping truth of ME3 realization...it's what's the fighting is all about. Its the 'call' for evolution.
