This is why. OK in redcliff i was trying to do the nobody dies thing (thinking it was an achievement ) and placed like 30 traps down below .   All three paths the mobs take to be sure none died before i got down there. so the fight starts its going good until i looked down at the bottom from a ledge to see NONE of my traps .and after the battle
was over they all showed up again NOT ONE set off .

It happened again in camp  i placed like 60 traps of all kinds for when  you get attacked. A complete circle around allies and my group except shale.   Well the attack happened  and just like before they disappeared during the fight , just to reappear AFTER it was over .  AND again NOT ONE was set off .  It would be cool if your going to add something to your game at least make it work Posted Image

One would need to check in the toolset to be certain, but I'm pretty sure those are different instances of those areas. The camp attack doesn't have the merchant or delegates, and Redcliffe, it's an entirely different time of day, and they don't have a huge fire in front of the Chantry. That, I suspect, is why your traps 'disappear', they were never in those instances of those areas to begin with.

Yes, I would think it's a reset type thing that happens. Like with landmark trees, and it sucks.

As Arinosmirc said, they are different "versions" of the same map. It is an easy way of doing things and I am definately not defending the developers for doing it, but it is an old way of doing things. Some games tho are starting to use a new way of doing it, which I am sad they never used in DA:O which (to use a more common game) was called "phasing" in WoW. Some things can be tagged as being universal in this phase tec and shows up in all versions of the phase.

This is the way devs in this day and age should be approaching this sort of thing in games, not the old style copy paste of same map and teleport the player to the changed version of the map based on whatever circumstance.

But unfortunately the devs chose the old school approach to it, which results in your pre-laid traps and any other type of advanced strategy pointless.

ya not being able to disarm your own traps is BS but wouldnt it be a little overpowering?

if you focus on trap making your traps unless carefully placed only a few would go off.So if you rack them all up you would have hundreds of them...gives me an idea kill archdemon instantly with traps....possible? or maybe just flem?

The problem is that if you set them up before the battle they are on the map 1 so when the map 2 comes up for the battle they aren't there, the solution is to set them up after the battle begins.

That's what I did. After the flaming oil ignites, I ran down the hill and set traps in the main village. Back up the hill to check on the knights (who were doing fine -too fine actually. They quickly killed all the enemies so had to run into the fire to engage the next round *facepalm*).
The messenger comes up and says, "Oh, HAi! We haz monsterz!"
When I got down to the main village again, I got the satisfaction of seeing the militia all still using bows on the first batch of trap-incapacitated baddies.
