Ferrets, dogs, cats. In that order. I've been owned by several of each over the years.

@hyperglide: true.cats are loyal as long as you respect their boundaries n treat em well.they are independent and need room but faithful.dogs are cool too,but very codependent.I like chicks best;)

Cats for me. I love dogs, I think they're great, but they have too much energy and they're too damn cheerful. So I'll stick with cats.

Dogs.
Cats don't have enough meat and they're too bony.

Cats. Not that I don't love dogs, I just don't want to go through the stress of training one and hoping they won't destroy all my stuff in the meantime.

Cats all the way. I want a cat again, but have no place for it at the moment.
I don't like dogs. Stupid barking things. I've delivered mail for a few years, and one dog beat half of the mailbox out of the door when jumping against it to get the mail. I was lucky to have pulled back my fingers in time.

Both have their pros and cons. It's up to you which pros you cannot live without and what cons you can live with.
I appeal to dogs. Preferably big dogs like Huskies and German Shepherds.
Owned a dog that was half husky and half retriever. He was solid black with one brown eye and one ice blue eye. Died in a hurricane unfortunately.
Cats can be pretty entertaining and I'd have one some day if they didn't flare up my allergies.
But I'm more inclined to my python.

I'd go for a cat myself. Don't have one at the moment though.
I like other peoples dogs well enough, but definitely not for me.

I have a mini-schnauzer who happens to be the cutest and smartest dog on the whole damn planet. So, dogs. Also, I am horribly allergic to cats.

Cats. They require much less maintenance. Also, dogs slobber over things a lot, while cats only occasionally puke furballs.
Also, Catdog.

Both are good.
Cats have these advantages though:
1) Quieter due to not barking.
2) Bathe themselves and thus are less likely to smell bad.
3) Doesn't need to be "walked".
4) Lighter afoot.
5) More likely to become an Internet sensation.
