I would ask what each dev loves so much about working for Bioware and what's their favorite moment working for them?

Not single question but close!

Just my outside opinion here, but... the only questions devs are answering in this thread are not DA-related at all. The reason your questions are likely not getting answered is because they are spoiler-related. They aren't ready to talk about the game - either in DA3 or any other future titles.

Questions that are getting answered are "How did you get your job," "What was your first car?" and "do you tan well?"

Questions that have nothing to do with the DA series or its production.

It's tough for me to answer much about the content for this reason.  Plus there's nothing stopping it from changing at this point (depending on the question).

DA stuff such as details about my job and whatnot are a bit easier to answer.

And to step on the landmine...

Do you like Dragon Age 2?

Yes.  (Kaboom!)

I'm about as biased of a source as there possibly can be on the game, however.

...yes, but do you tan well?!

Unlikely.  I played WoW for a long time, as well as some TOR, and unless Elder Scrolls Online does something particularly remarkable, I just feel I have MMO burnout.

It's important to note that how a developer looks at his own work is going to be different than a fan.  While a fan may look at something and say "That was lazy/poor/whatever" there's a good chance that the dev that worked on it looks at it and goes "Look at all those flaws.  I could have done better."

By a counterpoint, while a fan may look at something and say "That was awesome!" there's a good chance that the dev that worked on it looks at it and goes "Look at all those flaws. I could have done better."

DA2 has its flaws for sure.  It's not a perfect game.  What some may see, as an outside observer, as intrinsically poor, I'll more often see as "issue with execution" because I'm privy to the concepting, enthusiasm, and so forth behind a particular idea that can influence how I look at something.  Fans don't have this perspective, so they can only judge purely based on what is actually delivered (which is entirely fair).

But despite DA2's flaws, and some other extra incentives (such as it being my first full game), I'm still proud of my contribution and the work we did on DA2.  I recognize there was a fair bit of negative reception, however, and would love to make a game that turns skeptics/doubters into full on fans of DA3.  It's a challenge and helps keep enthusiasm.

Having been on both sides of this observation, what you say here hits very close to my heart.

Even something that I worked on and that received nothing but praise from the community  got the "Look at all those flaws. I could have done better" treatment.

This is the most tressful parts of creating something that the general public then comsumes imo.

@John Epler: Yeah. I get that. Anything you would do in DA:I and would write about contains a spoiler. ;)

@Allan Schumacher: That's pretty cool. I've worked for a company which provided game content and also did localizations for games. The problem there was that internationalization/localization was often an afterthought. Your code must have been a real help.

I don't even know if I could only as one question. But here it goes.

How did you get into the game industry?

I got in by applying to BioWare as a contract QA Tester.

I was able to strengthen by application by having a Computing Science degree, which let them use me in more technically minded ways (rather than general playtester).  I did a good enough job between the end of DAO and start of DA2 that when my contract was expiring, I was deemed "valuable" and they offered me a permanent position.

Now I drink tears of fans and sit on my hands enjoying the life of affluence and decadence, all the while doing a minimal amount of work while reading the forums for my own personal amusement.

Living the dream B)

Here is one to any of the devs:

What was a personal accomplishment or something you were proud of doing in DA:I or one of the other titles in the series?

Ask me again when DA:I ships :P

Thus far? I was pretty happy with my solution to getting the player and party down the stairs when Bartrand locks them in. The player slid down the railing of the staircase, which was about a dozen animations squashed together, and it looked pretty decent.

I remember that scene  =)    liked it a lot.

I certainly respect the hard work don on DA2. I don't play MMO either and I did read the EA execs comments where he said he wouldn't approve games that didn't have multiplayer. How can Bioware insure that those of us who never intend to play multiplayer won't have our single player experience diminished by the game's multiplayer component.

I hear ya.. Although the Thunder King patch has brought some excitement (pterodactil mount! Tameable dinos!) WoW can get into a no fun grind very easily. Trouble is it is very addicting.. So you guys better do a great DAI to rescue me form it :P

That rail slide was very cool. I think that's the first time I've seen my character just fully interacting with his environment like that in DA. It was one of those 'Whoa, nice. *smile*' unexpected kinda moments.

I'm going to direct this one to Allan... what position do you play in basketball?

(Saw a post in the Twitter thread where you were shooting around) I'm guessing... power forward?

I reached 5'10" - 5'11" pretty quickly, which meant in Junior High I was a big player and I did play the power forward spot.  I peaked at 6'1" so in high school I became a shooting guard.

In the Rec league I play in, I mostly play "all over the place" (mostly just reacting to where my teammates are going) though I typically guard the bigger guys on the other team.  I totally had a sweet Olajuwon-esque post spin move in our most recent game though.  One dribble low to a drop step into a spin baseline for a reverse layup.  Was probably literally the nicest post move I had ever done in my life! :D  (If only I had the confidence to try such stuff when I was actually athletic!)

Nice. I do all my moves in the post, most of the time (6'4" and no perimeter shot, so I am a consumate center), so I know exactly what you mean about feeling awesome after hitting a crazy shot under the rim.

And also about being less athletic than I used to be! Just switched from a three-on-three shootaround with some buddies to a full court 5-on-5 play and didn't realize how winded I would be by the final last few minutes of play. :pinched:

God I miss basketball. (someday, over the rainbow, I'll get it back)

Yep, got hurt about 8 years ago. I've got a ways to go before I'm able to play worth a **** anymore. I will though.

I was a 6' 1-4. Passing, slashing, and finishing in the paint.

Ah, had a buddy of mine tear the last remaining ligament in his ankle last year (he had problems wih t all of his life). Laid him up for six months. Doc said he wouldn't be able to play a game again without risking him having an injury so bad he wouldn't be able to walk normally.

So I can empathize with you. Good luck on your recovery!

Thanks. :-)
Mine's a series of things that kind of snowballed from a TMJ injury I got at a bad dentist appointment. Never know when your life's gonna change.
And my condolences to your buddy. That's a hard pill to swallow.
