There is quite a lot of fan fiction and i was just curious as to what was popular among everyone else? My personal favorite is Luxdragons Me2 story but it hasn't been updated in quite a bit.

I'm sure the Marauder Shields comic is going to win this.

But if you're referring simply to stuff that would be found on a site like fanfiction.net, then I'd recommend Hellhound. It's very well done - though, admittedly, it has its flaws here and there. Nothing unforgivable, though.

Finding the best one out there is impossible, since that's all subjective, but I could as well link to three I can think of right now, that I think are good. None of these are completed.

Event Horizon - http://www.fanfictio...t-Event-Horizon
- Have some very well written original characters.

Blue Social - http://www.fanfictio...0/1/Blue-Social
- Written in an asari perspective that actually seems alien.

We Are Our Own Last Hope - http://www.fanfictio...r-Own-Last-Hope
- Set after ME3, but the genophage-cured krogan are a galaxy-wide threat. It is about a squad of asari commandos.

There are so many that I like that it would be impossible for me to list, nor will I since many of the writers are my friends and I would really hate to leave anyone out.

Heroism series by Setrus. An emotional rollercoaster dramasitation of ME events with a new take on the characters and thier roles while being 100% canon. It features a helluva more logic reaction to certain things by the characters.

Holy crap, you're a reader!? :o

Wow, the beauty of internet, eh? People feature all over the place.
Erm...hope you're not one of those disturbed by the darkness of the third fic. :P

Anyway, I see a bunch of interesting links here, might drop by during the weekend, I have far too few (active) stories on story-alert right now. ^_^

Hello time bomb, excellent look at ME2 storyline and how Shep deals with the resurrection etc.. just read it really great story love the uniqueness of the fic. One of those fics your just so sad it is over when the last chapter posts. Complete http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7973924/1/

A Star to Steer her By, femshep/Joker pairing ME2. Great character development. Complete
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6882785/1/

Shell of Heroism (also my favorite of the series.) I can't say enough about this one either. More in depth character development, well written fight scenes. The other two in the trilogy are also amazing. But if I had to pick a favorite it would be this one.

I am also bookmarking the stories that were listed above, they look quite promising.

OH SHIZZ!

I actually love the darkness in Death of Heroism, somehow ME3 lacked truly that and the Tali reaction over the recently resurrected Shepard was BRILLIANT, and what have you done with Jack, Garrus, and the decisions that Michael Shepard makes. <3

Just poke Abydos with a stick to hurry

The heroism series is a good read, as others have mentioned.

The Spirit of Truth/Redemption by Myetel is... epic. It's also supremely long (162 chapters, 3.2ish million words)

Mass Effect: Pieces by Chemiclord
Rhapsody in Blue by Theodur
Dark Energy series, by Melaradark
The Shepherdess and the Questing Beast, by PCM65
Keelah Se'lai by Full-Paragon (even though there's a few spelling errors, it's not really detracting from the story). Also Full-Paragon's new fic, Age of Iron: Refusal, holds promise.
Feathers by Thedeadflag
Unity by Awska
Second Life by JadeDraqgonMTR
Of Sheep and Battlechicken by LogicalPremise
Family Doesn't End With Blood by ColossusProblematic
and
Odyssey by Bebus (also check out Bebus' one-shot, Liara T'soni, Asari Ranger for some epic lulz)

are the ones I'm currently actively following on Fanfiction.net All of them, I consider good.

Of course, the list is incomplete, but I'm lazy and thus won't list all of my favorite stories :P

Ha, thank you.  (that final Jack thing was truly a spurr of the moment, a horrible, horrible, spurr...  )

Would it kill you to know she has two chapters waiting to be read and then posted? ;)

Going to toss in another vote for Heroism, it is by far the best "canon" story I've read. Action, characters and emotions (especially the fascinating protagonist's) are all incredibly well done, and seeing it updated always makes my day.

Fans of AU stories will enjoy Uncommon Bonds by Tayg - a very original and beautiful romance story with a captivating plot.

There are many, many others, but some current favourites are:

Rise of Leviathan by Vector 71, a post-ME3 story about the Leviathan deciding the bottom of the ocean is no place for a species that used to rule the galaxy.

Buffalo Bill and its sequel by Renegadebabe, an absolutely hilarious, yet also very emotionally powerful take on ME.

Flotsam by thedeadflag (now complete, amazing ME1 piece in progress), a very excellent pre-ME1, Earthborn story.

Second Life by JadedragonMTR which takes an interesting progress through ME2, focusing heavily on a squad of OC asari commandos, led by the lovely matriarch Aethyta.
And many more... I could just add my whole favourites list here to be honest

Thank you so much for the shout out  Odyssey is on a short (but definitely not permanant!!) break right now as I try to figure out the best way to write two consecutive stories - I apologise for the delay in updating!

Sinvraal's fanfic. She has a single coherent narrative going from ME1 to ME3, divided into a number of fics (the last fic is ongoing but the others are all finished). Her writing style is incredibly good and she is not a one-trick pony: at times her work is contemplative, or emotionally-charged, or intellectual, or adrenaline-pumping, etc.

Many of her chapters focus on the unseen moments, the things one could imagine realistically happening as part of the game's story but which were never shown. By concentrating on these, and just by paying lots of attention to psychological realities, she adds depth and complexity to all the characters in the game without changing the things that make them distinctly themselves.

One of the best decisions she's made is that, while she uses many different point of view characters, she never writes from the point of view of Shepard.  She allows Shepard to be the most mysterious character of all in many ways; I think this choice is inspired given how familiar each of us is with Shepard.

She updates every Thursday like clockwork. Those updates are a highlight of my week. I would strongly recommend her work to anyone who likes Mass Effect fan fiction.

I don't want to go through hundreds of bad fan fictions before finding one that is actually worth reading.

Estelindis. You've definitely sold me on Sinvraal's fan fiction.
I hope it lives up to your hype.

Has anyone looked at Clint Johnson's Mock Effect?
How about Lankist's Paint Adventures?

I like my fair share of comedy and these two are quite funny.

Totally recommend The Last Spartan, DinoJake's terrific Mass Effect/Halo crossover! It is a lot of fun, totally organic in how it blends the universes and expands a bit on the mythos in his own way. Check it out:

Mass Effect/Command and Conquer (Tiberian Universe) crossover fanfic by Peptuck: Renegade

Can only recommend that writer for his brilliant, visceral style. And if you like Command and Conquer, then you should totally check out his "Tiberium Wars" fanfiction. It's novel quality and I can say that with utmost sincerity as I've read a good couple great novels in my lifetime.

Yes, expecially the first story. Is the single best novilization of the ME2 in my opinion. Takes the story as it stands, with the only changes made to the story done so to better fit the written format and to add complexity. Also somehow makes the build of to Tali romance even better then it is in game.
