I do have to say, well said StElmo, I left these forums for a large chunk of last year, things had gotten out of control, I am glad to see things calming down. Every day on the news it is about people overreacting or judging something with nothing to go on. I didn't want to deal with that here, and with threads like this, I am optimistic things are getting better. So again well done!

I'm happy for you StElmo. A lil self analysis is awesome.

But honestly I wish you would stop posting these threads abt. your "come to Jesus" moment, because all you're really doing is stirring up the very shyte you obviously want to quell.

I made 2 threads. One was to apologize the other one was to say we shoulod simply embrace the game as is and have fun. Sorry ):

Didn't think that was a lot :S

Oh, StElmo.

Don't misunderstand
what I'm trying to say. It just seems that these particular threads
invite Moar! bitter bickering. That's not your fault, but that is what
keeps happening.

And although w/you it was case of getting caught up, there are many others that had and still have genuine concerns that were not a result of teh internet.

There's an idea that, oh they're just upset because of the internet that I've seen come from the mods. Idk if BW feels this way, too, but it's extraordinarily frustrating. It implies that you don't know your own mind. Your own feelings. You just wanna say, "No, it wasn't the internet. It was X,Y,Z."

It feels very dismissive. And somewhat alarming because if BW truly thinks it was all just the internet, then you get the feeling that they're not really hearing you. And they think everything's really okay. It's like telling a woman that the reason she's ticked off w/you is because it's that time of month for her. That's not gonna end well.

Mind you, it is not acceptable in any way, shape or form to make death threats, or other vile, disgusting, sub human comments to the staff and/or their families and children under any circumstance. And I fully believe these types of things should be collected and fwd to the authorities so that legal action can be taken against such criminal behavior.

I think the internet definitely enhances the irrational rage, instead of rational, polite, critique.

There would have been nothing wrong with sending contact@bioware.com an email with what you liked and didn't like in an amicable manner.

But lingering and feeding off other peoples emotive arguments and tactless criticisms actually alters your perception - it's natural for human beings to assimilate with communal activity, rather than go against it.

I have criticisms of every game I play, even ME3, I still had initial criticisms when I finished it, but it was not until I used BSN for a period, that I started almost "stockpiling" "reasons" to dislike the game.

Instead of being the fan I once was, which was "oh I didn't like this and that, but oh well! the game was fun!" I would in this case, and I am willing to bet, many others would - have either moved on or sent a polite email to BW about what they thought.

I've noticed this with a lot of posts on here. Why are people still on here if all they post is negative things for instance? It's almost like that's the pastime some people have now, logging in and complaining, instead of either:

a) embracing the game
B) sending a polite critique directly to BioWare and moving on

unfortunately, most poeple including myself did c:

c) have a few criticisms that then became bigger and bigger deals as we found more and more points to complain about until the whole pastime became complaining - leaving a pit in the stomachs of dull bitterness, rather than a or b's "oh this portion was good and bad becayse x y z, time to wait for ME4".

There were alot of well thought out posts critiquing the game. And not just teh ending.

I'm of a split mind about this because when I saw posts that were straightfwd complaints, I also saw them being attacked for it by other forum posters. Then one thing led to another. And round and round it went.

So, the toxic negative feeling on the ME forums is not just because of those w/complaints abt the game. It is also very much because of other fans that like the game and just want others to shut up.

I've seen some really verbally abusive stuff coming from fans that like the game. Directed at other fans that don't like it. Don't forget that part.

Forums are to discuss. And occasionally argue, but the whole toxic thing has more been a BSN civil war. It escalates because ppl get angry for being insulted by other fans.

I hope you don't start doing that now, tho from a different angle.

Personally, I'm fed up with both of them. I didn't like the end, amongst sum other things, but I'm damn tired of hearing ppl go on abt it. And I'm sure fed up with the smug, condescending deal w/ it crap.

I rarely come in here anymore. I just wanted to see what was going on w/the dlc.

I'm glad you came to terms w/yourself. But you just keep bringing it up again in the forum. Look at your other thread. Why couldn't you send this apology to BW in an email?

Let it die already.

Is this what the BSN has become? There is never anything wrong with having an opinion about a game. I just thought it was crazy that people would actually threaten Bioware. But constructive criticism is never a bad thing.

I think Bioware's definition of constructive criticism is different from most people's.

I agree with you on that.

I think we all can agree we all have said things out of anger sadness confusion whatever. I also think some people went a bit far with the reactions to the game. But hey bioware you have to admit with all us angry people you should be proud. Why you ask because you made a game three games that had people so involved so in love with the characters Shepard story that we were all hurt when it ended and for that I give a standing ovation.

Now that people are so merry..
Shouldnt devs come over and explain why there were no rachni in the final battle?
You know because the forum has become less toxic in the recent time.

I just came back from a long stay away from anything Bioware and I still feel the same way, I was never one to be too hateful, i feel they were wrong in what they did, being in the same business i have discretion with my comments because i understand the stress that comes with the job. But i also know its supposed to be about the customers not the magical "vision" of the company. if it doesn't work, it fails. if anything can be said from this it is that the customer is always right so don't fight it.

What games do you work on? Indie or published dev? I make indie games, trying to get my first one ever finished.

though i do still dislike things about mass effect 3 i still liked it  ... i never went too far with my posts. usually still defended it . kinda a love/hate thing . though closer to dislike then hate. but i suppose it is nice to see someone apologize for their rude behavior i guess . and without making excuses. straight apology ftw

unless there was a excuse then nvm       and some of that could be excuses ....   eh whatever guess it is fine you apologized .

+Respect StElmo. It takes courage to apologise, even in an anonymous medium like an internet forum. And it's also good for the devs to read posts like yours given the abuse that's been hurled at them over the past year.

They don't need to. It's already obvious. With the countless ways your war assets can turn out, incorporating it all into the final battle in a way which would work well for every possible screnario would have been extremely difficult and time consuming. It would have been a massive effort, a whole game's worth of development could go into that alone, so they chose to leave it.

And besides, Mass Effect has always been about more than just massive battles and military ****** type stuff.

this thread is full of awesomeness

i have had my problems with me3, too

but there has been no company such as Bioware, which made me fall for two of their series in less than half a year,

The only other gaming series I like as much as Mass Effect is Grand Theft Auto. Those two might seem like something really stupid to compare, but I like how GTA pokes fun at the USA while pointing out to the player it's worst excesses and injustices. GTA V is going to do that with America's love affair with money and the gap between rich and poor.

ME3 was terrible, don't apologize for reasonable reactions.
If anything you should tell them to "stick it".

This!

It takes a big person to stand up for what they believe in, but a bigger person to concede they were doing it in the wrong way. StElmo - I salute you! Very cool post. classy stuff!

That's very polite of you.

I didn't like the original endings but seeing people want to have staff fired or even wishing them certain pain was way out of line.

Imagine a hardworking employee with a mortgage, wife/husband and a few little children getting fired. Community complained, you're fired (not that it would happen)

Immoral and unethical.

Don't know what you have said but cheers for you !

*Insert joke about that being EA's Standard Operating Procedure*

But this took the words from my mouth (Main post, that is). I did say some... dickish things... to say the least, on other forums, especially after Omega came out because.... well, that DLC sucked from what I saw. But I have since mellowed out (Got more targets in EA's list to hate like Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3 XD), and, like the OP, I'd like to say sorry to Bioware for the hell they went through, especially after I heard what Jennifer Hepler went through (If anyone who contributed to her quitting reads this, you are a monster).

This thread makes me lol. Apologising for speaking your mind is nonsense and 80% of the "hate" would have been aborted or relaxed had more than just Gamble, Weekes and the MP team responded directly. Hiding only added fuel to the proverbial fire. Yes, I may have been a bit abrasive myself sometimes but I'm not apologising for being me. It's better to be honest with yourself and those around you than to wear a fake smile.

So.. topic closed?
