Once you realise what a joke everything is, being The Comedian is the only thing that makes sense.

He is not some human child he is the Intelligence for crying out loud. He was built eons ago by those who recognized there would always be conflict between organics and synthetics. If it weren't for him humanity would have never existed. In fact, no organics would exist at all! He is the most knowledgable being in the galaxy and it's largely due to him that we're given the privelage of choosing Synthesis.

A lot of people try to dismiss his credibility by calling him "the kid" when he only appeared like that so he would be non-threatening to Shepard. This symbolizes that he was never interested in war, but finding a peaceful solution that works for everyone.

PLF

You do it injustice then by referring to it by any specific gender.

Personally, I have taken to calling it the thing, the creature, when I manage to be serious about it. Reap-hurr Führer figure hits somewhat squarely home too, however. Unfortunately.

Besides, I rather thank the random hand of fate, or else the craftiness of the Prothean scientists hailing from Ilos for being able to sabotage the Keeper-transmission for the Sol-system having been spared the Reap-hurr purging program. Same goes for biological organism's tenacity for keeping the ball rolling.

Then again, we should really lay the blame for its...unfitting representation at BW's feet. Intimidating figures with divine traits_can_be done well. The thing falls way short of that category.

I wonder if Control Shepard becomes like Jon. Progressively disconnected from the world until he loses all connection with humanity.

Rorshach would totally have gone Refuse. Or maybe Destroy? Ozymandias was definitely Synthesis.

Oh no! Don't do that! We won't have a thread telling us what to call a certain character in a video game when discussing him in other threads/places! What ever would we do!?

I don't have all day for the Socratic Method to take effect, so I'll just make things plain and simple.

Here's what's going on here.

The Catalyst has a great deal of power over everyone in this thread. As does BioWare. People are upset that something they see as stupid or wrong has power over them, so they (dishonestly) attempt to trivialize and dismiss him. Hence the insults and name-calling. The person they're trying to convince is themselves.

Wow, did you get your degree in psych from an infomercial?:o

Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar.  Reading something into all this is just another way to try and label people-you are applying some kind of subconscious intent where none exists.  People dislike the kid because they dislike him.  And because he represents the worst part of the whole story and exists at a point where the story should be the most sound and should tie up all the loose ends.  People don't have to convince themselves; they know what they think.  You however are indicating a defensive posture which is indicative of internal conflict.  You are the one trying to defend him and thus trying to defend what you think he represents.

Since yoiu brought up the concepts here, you have opened up your own thinking to us.  You see the catalyst as representative of your own self-worth based upon your own opinions of the game.  If those opinions are not agreed with, you see that as debasing your own worth.  You brought up some tie in to how people feel about Bioware and all that and so have opened up a window to your own psyche.  It's kind of like the saying "the one who smelt it, dealt it."  The things you see as existing in other people (which don't exist) are manifested in yourself.  Over-active defense of something is indicative of too much internalization of that thing.  In effect, the kid and Bioware are seen by you as things you must protect, as a part of you.
