Bioware didn't have to release the EC, but they chose to release it out of the kindness of their hearts, their dedication to their fanbase, because a small fraction couldn't comprehend the greatness of the ending. Bioware took 3 months with the full team working day and night and gave us a free product. That was 2 gigs of data and it really shows. You get to find out what happens to every squadmate, closure on the big issues like romances. There have to be at least 20 slides that were made.
To let you know what a big deal this is, Omega was $15. And while Omega had great storytelling, combat and was extraordinarily polished, I'm not sure even it could compete with the EC. Maybe you all should take some time to think about what it is you're so upset for.
I'm pretty sure if they'd charged for the EC, I'd appreciate it more. As it is, I think it's the lack of a pricetag that makes me think they have assigned it no value at all. They apparently think it's way more important to do nice stuff for a heck of a lot of very nice people. I think that's great, but I feel kind of guilty for accepting their hard work and ultimate closure for free. A great story does indeed require sacrifice at the end.
Too bad I got to have this ending without any sacrifice on my part. And so sad they are largely unappreciated for their love and care of the fans. We should adopt the hallucinogenic attitude of those for whom Bioware is not just a company, but a close personal friend. Hug a BW employee today (metaphorically speaking-don't wanna creep them out with some stalker mentality). Share the love. Express your true feelings for that cute little glowy kid and for the 3 depressing endings that speak of the angst that exists within us all-that true video gamey feeling.
Omega was highly polished and deep. I am sure they fully meant for Aria to fly around like that. And the story, wow I was on the edge of my seat wondering which gun Shepard might shoot with. Cool.
