If it weren't for him humanity would have never existed. In fact, no organics would exist at all! A lot of people try to dismiss his credibility by calling him "the kid" when he only appeared like that so he would be non-threatening to Shepard. This symbolizes that he was never interested in war, but finding a peaceful solution that works for everyone.
