I've been looking at the different armor types. Since I'm in the front lines and directly in crossfire, I've been thinking of using Collector's armor. Would you guys agree? As for my weapons I'm only going to only carry and sniper and an AR. Still not decided on that yet.

Renegade Shepard wears the flesh of his slain foes so Collector armor is a no brainer,  for a sniper you could use a (if you can afford it) BW and and kill armored units as well as mooks at range for assault rifle youcan basically pick anything the ones I prefer in single player come late in the game (Falcon and Revenant).

EDIT: As far as Progression get 3 ranks into AR and then dip into passives maybe 2 ranks after that pick an ammo power that syncs well with your squadies.

What bonus power did you choose?

I don't have bonus powers yet because this is my very first playthrough. Opinions on the Mattock?

The mattock is phenomenal for headshots, If you want to roll with it on some missions I'd run it as my "sniper" and take an SMG (bloodpack punisher) or a shotgun rather than another sniper.

On my soldiers I actually run the PPR v Cerberus/Geth and Claymore v. Reapers as my primaries play around with it but if you are a renegade you must wear collector armor.

EDIT: You don't have to wear collector armor but then you wouldn't look like a badass

This is a pretty good gun.

It works very well against armour and health.
Okay versus shields and barriers.

If you want a semi-automatic weapon that deals good reliable damage, has great accuracy and a very shallow learning curve, the Mattock is your gun.

If you have the Harrier, best choose this over the Mattock. But if you don't, you really can't go wrong with the Mattock.

Mods: I like to use the scope and a piercing mod. You may find you want extra clip size. But to be honest, this weapon works well regardless of what mods you put on it.

Stability mods however are pointless. This weapon has very little recoil.

Awesome. Thanks for the tips.

I'll aim for the Black Widow for my sniper since it was my sniper in ME2.

I heard DLC weapons are actually worth it this game? Which packs/weapons are? I'm just going to give them Garrus and Liara since they are the ones I'm planning to run with the most.

Bloodpack Punisher for Liara and the PPR for Garrus are what I use; put some points into Liara's stasis if you are planning on sniping it makes killing Centurions and Marauders very easy.

EDIT: They don't really kill many things so don't fret over not having the weapons for them if you don't.  Think of your squadmates as additional powers you can use.

It was just something to think about. I like to give them something decent instead of just letting them have their starting weapons.

As for the powers, yeah, I learned that Liara can spam the hell out of the Singularity in this game.

That's exactly what I did. Since I was importing a level 30, I immediately maxed out Singularity then her passive.

It's an excellent rifle, my favorite semi-auto weapon in the game. I recommend Piercing and Extended Barrel mods. It's only drawback is you'll be clicking like a madman so expect a sore trigger finger.

There are some good snipers in the game. The Black Widow (purchased from the Spectre office is arguably the best. The Matis and Widow are good if you like single-shot weapons, as is the Javelin but it seems to have more of a learning curve. I also like the Raptor, which is pretty similar to the Mattock so there's no real need to take those two together.

I can't comment on DLC weapons as I don't have any yet. Soon, hopefully.

As for armor, I never use anything but Hahne-Kadar armor for the weapon bonus, with whatever helmet I feel like at the moment. Collector armor is ok, I don't personally care for the look myself so I don't use it. When I want "tank" armor I use the customizable set that gives shield bonuses. Sorry, the name escapes me at the moment.

Liara I usually give the Tempest SMG and Carnifex pistol (Paladin if I buy it, usually don't). Garrus gets either the Phaeston or Revenant assault rifle, and late game I switch him to the Falcon. I don't bother with snipers on him as squaddies seem to shoot to slowly with them.

ALSO in addition to weapons adn that sort of theing don't forget to Roleplay your character a bit while I won't post spoilers there are certain missions where it makes sense to take some of your party members make sure to do that.

Without spoiling it, will I be hinted to take a certain character?

If you do dialogue between missions with your squaddies it's easy to figure out

Thanks for the heads up. I liked moments were dialog can be expanded to be more interesting, like bring Legion on Tali's loyalty mission.

Side note: I'm leaning towards your weapon preferences, any suggestions on upgrades?

Weapon mods really weapon dependent, the BW has innate armor piercing so no AP mod but other SR might find that mod useful. The mattock probably needs ap mod and extended barrel, most of your weapons will use this unless you need a stability mod on a weapon like the revenant. As for abilities I often respec depending on the mission; for example versus geth disrutor ammo is king on other factions, cryo or incendiary might be more useful. I really can't tell you what works best unless I get more info. If you're looking to use a bonus power on your second play through I would suggest an infiltrator and marksman. Because of the way cool downs work you can stay permantly in marksman.

By respec do you mean reassign your powers using the med bay terminal? The seems rather expensive considering the cost of respeccing seemingly increases exponentially.

If you enjoy the game yes.

Which packs/weapons are?

Firefight and Groundside Resistance. There are only a few guns you'd really want out of them but they're great. Firefight has the Blood Pack Punisher and Adas for your squad mates and possibly yourself Harrier is great for Shepard and the Reegar is something you might enjoy using on Shepard for certain classes. Groundside has the Typhoon for your squad and the Venom is something several people have enjoyed using themselves. Be warned the Reegar and Venom are quirky. From Ashes has the PPR which is also great for the squad. Leviathan and Omega has a few great weapon mods.

I'm just going to give them Garrus and Liara since they are the ones I'm planning to run with the most.

BPP for Liara, you'll also have a few interesting pistol choices but you likely won't use them very often because the BPP is great.

Adas/PPR/Typhoon for Garrus. You could switch it up based on the level or just pick the one you like the best. Adas is great on anything without armor, PPR has low base damage but it gets a massive 4x damage boost after a slight charge up period, Typhoon has decent base damage with a short charge up period where it gets a 50% damage boost it also gets an additional 50% damage boost against any from of defense. A lot of people think this gun is simply ridiculous especially with the high velocity barrel from Omega, it chews through armor like it's nothing. Garrus has been known to drop Brutes on Insanity in a few seconds.

I probably respec 2-4 times per games dependant on kit.  The total cost is Free+5K+10K so that's not horrible IMO.

I just bought the weapon pack with the Typhoon in it. What a gun! I don't think you even need biotics when you have Vega and Garrus equipped with it.

In terms of synergy, I find that soldier Shepard doesn't synergise that well with fellow soldier squadmates.

In my team of Soldier Shep, Garrus and James I specced both Frags for anti-shield, James' Carnage for anti-armor, and Shep provided squad cryo while using IA himself. It was a shield-stripping, debuffing machine of death. There were tech bursts, fire and cryo explosions everywhere (and this was before FEs were patched). I call that synergy.

Then I added Falcons to the mix. And then I swapped to squad Disruptor and liked that even better.

Swapped James for Ashley in the second act and kept right on trucking.

Don't discount the all-Soldier death squad. Posted Image

Fair enough. That actually sounds pretty awesome:wizard:. (I need to start using a new emoticon).
