I dunno. I felt that it lent Fenris a certain levity that he ordinarily did not possess. I mean, every time I saw him stride across a battlefield, wielding that giant sword with those skinny arms, wearing very nice armor everywhere except his feet and totally not worried about stepping on anything sharp or poisoned or caustic, I couldn't help but laugh.

As for Merril, well ... girl's not all there, you know? Lights are on, but nobody's home.

It had nothing to do with the characters. It was an arbitrary decision by the artists, that some of the writers were vocally displeased with.

Okay, seriously, people. I refuse to use [/sarcasm] tags, so use your context clues, huh?

Honestly, I thought the barefoot thing was stupid. Well I thought the redesign of elves as a whole was stupid. But this is about the lack of shoes, which is only a part of that.

So yeah, I'd welcome the return of shoes/boots.

I dunno, for some Elves it makes sense. If the Dalish are close to nature, I would expect some of them to be literally such going the whole John Coffey motif when he's outside the prison. And most Elves are poor, so some of them I'd expect to be barefoot when in the Alienage.

All Elves, however, does push it a bit. But it's not something I care too much about. Not a gamebreaker.

I dunno, I liked them walking around barefoot.
I felt it added to their character.

It's far from a stupid idea, actually it's one of the best. That makes "some" elves tribes special.
In our world too some people still live like that and they do not care about sharpen things or poison, in Africa specially and in south america the most. I too love walking barefeet during treckings, it makes me feel better. Yup we may be special but we don't afraid of sharpen things and poisonous stuffs at all nor injuries.

That differences between men and elves is crucial. What they have to do (BIOWARE) is giving ur companion the choice of wearing shoes.

Same. I've been known to go out barefoot in the more nature-like areas. I enjoy the feel of the earth beneath me at times.

Other times I'll step in some mud -- or worse -- and go "****...".

As the Elves are based on several cultures -- Native Americans, Celtics, Gypsies, and Jewish people -- it makes sense for some of them to be like that, both from a cultural standpoint and a monetary standpoint that reflects their impoverished condition in human cities.

In the grand scheme of things this really doesn't matter.

However.

I hate feet, I hate them with an irrational passion, and romancing Fenris was difficult for me at times because of his semi-bare feet. Yes. It is that bad. So, everyone should wear boots, all the time.

The thing about nature though is that it can be hot, cold, painful, and even disgusting to step in. Sharp rocks, twigs, prickly plants, burning hot sand, freezing cold water, snow, ice, mud, dung, angry little insects that sting and animals that bite if you accidentally step on them...

Unless elves evolved with exceptionally thick foot soles to protect their feet like hobbits, I actually think the Dalish have even LESS reason to walk around barefoot than city elves, and city elves are born and raised in human society... which is full of shoes and boots.

Barefoot made sense for Merill, who was Dalish. It made no sense for an elf like Fenris who spent his entire life inside of cities.

It makes sense if Dalish elves go barefoot, but I think city elves should wear shoes/boots.

As long as the Dalish still go barefoot, I don't really care if the city elves do or don't wear footwear.

On that note: Dalish Grey Wardens should also go barefoot.

i think that the dalish should be barefoot as they are the typical nature loving elves, well as the flat ears are nearly shemlens so they would have adopt their clothing styles.

I'm a city girl, and I go barefoot all the time! I haven't stepped on anything that can cause immediate injury, and while that does not mean it will never happen, I am quite comfortable without shoes. I have developed callouses to the point where I don't feel discomfort walking on pine needles or stones. I don't see how it makes no sense for an elf to not wear shoes in the city. They are rebelling against their situation, keeping in touch with their love of nature (or lack-there-of in the city.)

In short: I liked having the elves barefooted. It was a different look into their culture. I'm sure some would wear shoes but I think others, perhaps most, would continue the tradition.

I didn't enjoy their redesign all that much, but that is another topic all together.

No to barefoot elves.

And no sole will be as hard as a proper boot. Sure, you may be able to walk or run over terraint that would be very uncomfortable for other people, but there are planety of obstacles you won't be able to go across.

Okay, so you've walked barefoot every possible chance outside in the city surrounded by everyone else going about your business?

Cause if so, props. But that seems crazy.

Edit- ^And that's what the city elves at least would be doing. Just seems nuts unless they're hobbits.

Do Elves actually lose their toes during winter? Just wondering...

Whoever made the decision hat Elves should wear no footwear iN DA is probably a huge Cody Lundin fan. He hasn't been wearing shoes the past 10 years or so.

They should, if they don't avoid colder climates.

Put those elves in Skyrim and they are DONE.

Hmmm...never noticed this, but it will now bug me to no end now. Just another reason to leave them back at their homes when off adventuring (i'd still leave them anyways).

If you think that's bad, God forbid you look at Merrill's hands.

*shudders*

Pretty much this but with red nail polish which makes it worse.

I actually saw some people walking around barefoot in Sydney, not to mention how it looks in slums in less fortunate parts of the world. Nature people also regularly go barefoot in warmer climate.

Also, winter? Looking at the wounded coast, I don't think we're in a tempered zone at all, probably subtropic.Snow might not be an issue.

One may like it or one may not, but to try and base that feeling on logic in this case could be a stretch.
