I remember reading something that David Gaider wrote that pretty much said "Don't even get me started on barefooted elves" I think he may have clashed with the art department on that one... I wish he would have won
Definitely remember this. Think it was way back in the Fenris fan thread? Not too sure, but he said it.

Someone asked if Fenris would ever wear shoes, and DG responded "No. The artists have a thing about elves and shoes. Don't get me started."
I agree with pretty much everyone else who posted in here - the Dalish can go shoeless, the very poor can go shoeless, but every and all elf being shoeless is simply an odd art choice.
EDIT - hehe, he also commented:

I am totally on your side. Some of the earlier versions of Fenris had me going to the artists all OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU ARE RUINING MY LIFE.
Thankfully they were very accommodating. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]
EDIT: Except for the shoes.

I agree with thise who found Elves unpleasant to look at.... The Elves werent the only ones to suffer - how do you explain Alistair... whatever were the artists thinking!
I'm just gonna leave this link here. It seems lighting was the cause for Alistair's 'appearance'.

In that 'light' Alistair does look a little better, but what about poor Zevran? How does one get lima bean face? Those ears? That hair?Cutlasskiwi wrote...

Seriously though, I thought it was ridiculous... for Fenris and city elves especially.

I believe he said more recently (still months ago though) that he seemed to be winning that battle this time, so perhaps all elves will again have the pleasure of wearing soft leather around their tender feet in the next game.:innocent:

It doesn't have to be thick boots--heck, they could go Indian on us and get some moccasins! That'd be alright.

Didn't David Gaider hate the fact Fenris had no shoes? I vaguely recall him being angry at the art team for thinking as an escaped slave he wanted to reclaim his elven heritage or something. Don't quote me on that though.
Considering Fenris hated the Dalish that was really a bad excuse. I believe Mr Gaider said in his Tumblr that he got used to it

That would be nice, because it really didn't make any sense for the elves to be shoeless - the Alienage elves, or their Dalish brethren.

Again...doesn't Fenris sort of have like wraps around his feet? Or am I missing something?
Sort of.

However when he's running the soles of his feet seem to be bare. I guess they forgot to texture that? Still, the largest part of his feet are bare, and the wrap doesn't look like it will offer much protection.

He wears leggings. Toe area and heels are still visible.

I could see Merrill as barefoot. She's a mage and a Dalish. But Fenris would've been better with some nice boots I think.
