All right. I've done... the last seven ME playthroughs as a soldier. Decided I'd do something new for this ME3 run, and went with Infiltrator.

I'm about midway through the game, and have played mostly on Normal (lowering to Casual when I'm in a "screw this" mood). In ME2 I play great on Veteran as a Soldier, to give you an idea of my skill level.

After all these hours, using mostly sniper rifles feels unnatural. I can do one-shot kills now, and it doesn't help with the awkwardness. I guess Infiltrators are supposed to hang in the background? Mostly?

Tactical Cloak is pretty cool, but strangely, it's practical uses are questionable when there's so much you can do from ordinary cover anyway. It's not like I can pull a Kasumi all the time.

In other words, I don't know what style of gameplay I'm even supposed to be going for. Any "quick and dirty" tips? Otherwise, I plan to switch to Casual for the rest and speed through. It's obvious I'm a pure soldier person.

Quick and dirty? Use Cloak as a pure damage booster. Cloak then shoot. It's almost retardedly effective. It will also probably be comfortable for you if you prefer a guns blazing approach.

Infiltrators don't need to hang back, though. They're great with other weapons besides snipers, particularly shotguns. Take your favorite weapon and don't feel like you are restricted to one certain playstyle.

Infiltrators are more natural snipers than Soldiers since their passive talents include natural time dilation when zooming in with sniper rifles. Note that this does not necessarily make them better snipers, just more natural snipers.

Tactical Cloak provides a damage bonus to both powers and weapons. Rank 4 Damage is recommended for the most damage; The Cloak Duration evolution at rank 4 is not really worth it considering you already have enough duration and you will never need the extra duration anyway.

Infiltrator is also a good class id you want to start using powers. Sabotage and Incinerate are good powers and you can combo them to create a powerful tech burst. My recommendation:
- Cloak: Damage, Recharge Time/Melee Damage, Free Power
- Sabotage: Damage, Explosive Hack, Tech Vulnerability
- Incinerate: Damage, Burning Damage, Armor Damage

With the above setup, you can cloak (increase power damage) > Sabotage > wait for the backfire of Sabotage (you can see it visually when the enemy begins to spark, some enemies will be stunned) > Incinerate. That combo will kill most enemies and greatly damage armored enemies such as Brutes. Note that Sabotage will not backfire on synthetic enemies (Geth).

Note that it takes about 1 second to decloak, and the damage bonus from cloak lasts for about 1.5 seconds after decloaking. So if you want to forgo powers and just shoot, then: Cloak > shoot.

As brad2240 states, you do not have to snipe. Shotguns are great on an Infiltrator, but you can also use any other weapon type you want. Since the damage bonus from cloak lasts for about 1.5 seconds after decloaking, even assault rifles are good on an Infiltrator.

Infiltrators are the best damage dealers with basically any weapon because of cloak's damage bonus duration, and minimum cooldown time. Choose the weapon you like.

Personally for a first time sort of play through, I might consider Energy Drain as a bonus talent. It is insta cast, and will stun immediately. Sabotage is a little delayed. Then again you could probably get used to the backfire delay if you fool around with it a little bit.

Incinerate is a good power, at least since you can boost damage with Cloak and Sabotage, if you rank that up to Tech Vulnerability. Not as good as in ME2, but still worth using.

Pretty much what brad said. You don't need to over think this if you're doing casual mode.

Does the time dilation from the class power also apply for other scoped weapons (pistol, AR) or is it for sniper rifles only?

It seems to only apply to sniper rifles, in my experience.

Yes, it is for anything that goes into the sniper rifle slot in the weapon loadout screen.

Use marksman as a bonus power and and stay in a perm state of MM by utilizing TC, MM, and TC, MM (repeating) when available. You practically burn through ammo though.
