Which opens up a whole slew of questions concerning why that is. How did Cerberus know about it, how did they know where it was, how did they know Shepard knew, how did they know what it contained, how did they know Shepard was going there and when she would arrive, why was Shepard needed when the asari have been using it all this time.

Hmm, yeah. Good point. I'm going to go with a BirdSallSA supported answer:

It was art.

Don't get me wrong, Shepard having the Cipher and thus is the only one able to access the needed information makes sense, but there are still a whole lot of questions. Maybe if the coup happened after Rannoch, Councilor Tevos could be kidnapped, and as a result Cerberus finds out about the beacon, and, knowing Shepard has the Cipher thanks to Lazarus, deliberately leads her to Thessia and lays a trap, sabotaging the pillars with explosives in an attempt to kill her after the data is retrieved.

Just typing out loud here, ignore the headcanon solutions.

No, no I get it. It's obvious more clarity is needed, and one that says because BioWare said so, is kind of weak.

Or the Asari could have decided to give up their little secret before they had no other choice.

How many times must I post that the Cerberus gunship was using Reaper tech. This isn't some run of the mill merc ship that was put together by a bunch of people who just learned how to hold a hammer.

So? Just because it could have been enhanced does not mean it is invincible.  During the entirety of Mass Effect 3, you fight enemies who use Reaper Tech, and yet they are able to be easily dispatched.

This
Also, I seem to recall a boss at the end of ME2 that had some Reaper tech in it. You know, the mini-human-reaper thingie.

People hate the Geth Consensus mission?

The people who complain about the mission are usually the geth haters/quarian fans

2 games quarian "propaganda" = great
1 mission geth "propaganda" = bad

Incorrect...I'm a real Legion Fangirl with an issue with the Geth Consensus Mission....I put a thread up about my issues with it some time back....:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/355/index/15063719

My OP post from that thread...:

"Okay, I personaly love Legion....but something is really off with the
'Geth Comm Hub' Mission.....I can't work out what BW was trying to do
with this Mission.

In ME1 the Geth were the enemy, in ME2 we meet
Legion and get their side of the story, their not quite the Big...Bad
they were painted as in ME1....I have no problem with that and like
having both sides of the story, enjoyed the greyness being thrown into
the equasion.

Come ME3 and suddenly the Geth are absolutely and
completely innocent childlike victims brutalized by the Quarians. The
Quarians even turning on their own and introducing Martial Law to stomp
out any Geth supporters...Geth valiantly trying to sacrifice themselves
for their Quarian friends, apologising for becoming self aware,
protecting one another from the quarian over lords....It's all sacrifice
and no aggressive retaliation after all...no hunting Quarians down in
the sheer attempt to wipe them out period....more of just a 'please
leave us alone' than anything else.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Geth, but what in hell happened!?....Image IPB....Why are they all suddenly Unicorns farting Rainbows?....It makes no sense."

How could you possibly know that Kai Leng's gunship had Reaper Tech? That's pure conjecture. Their Atlases didn't have Reaper Tech!

Shepard's outbreak after the mission is why I dislike it.

It was too short to give the effect Bioware was trying to force in the mission

Yay forced emotion

Thessia? wasn't the general consensus that everyone hated Priority Earth?

There are certainly worse missions.

The opening, the ending, the Citadel Coup, and the Geth Consensus come to mind.

The problem with Priority: Thessia is that it's a pretty standard "fight through the destroyed city" mission with a really lame boss fight tacked on at the end. Kai Leng isn't a challenging enemy to fight and the fact that he needs invincible shields and a gunship to make sure he survives the fight just makes him seem like more of a joke than a credible threat to Shepard.

I feel like I should have cared about the fall of the Asari homeworld a little more than I did. Maybe it was because Shepard was doing enough moping for the both of us. And for the entire population of a small town. Or continent.

yeah it should have been a few missions with a little more time spent on the asari or something. when it ended i was like whats going on with shep? the same thing happened to his (my sheps) home planet like a month ago and he never showed that much emotion over it. the issue with me was my entire history with this planet was about 20 min long.

Awfully designed fight with Kai Leng isn't enough?

That fight was amazing, actually. There Leng is, the only thing standing in the way of stopping the Reapers once and for all. But, for all Shepard's might, he isn't good enough to stop Kai from grabbing the intel. It gives the player undeniable respect for Kai Leng and establishes him as a tremendous threat. After that fight, I was seriously doubting whether or not I could defeat him.

Kai Leng and his elastic shield meter. The biggest piece of videogamey design and they had the balls to say they didn't want it to be too videogamey.

That and Liara going "Goddess" every 10 seconds was a pain in the ass.

My care-o-meter was at 0 the entire time. There was really nothing there to make me feel the weight of the mission because it was so short and so uninvolved.

All the extra stuff with Liara in hysterics and Shepard being all pissy made it worse because I personally felt no connection there. That is probably the most disconnected I've felt with my Shepard the entire series, even including the Catalyst conversation.

Well, back in ME1, you get a semi-boss fight against Saren on Virmire, and... well, you can't defeat him. Just like Kai Leng in Thessia.

It's just plot-armor. Plus, Leng is not even close to the awesomeness of Saren, so that makes it worse to most.

Its a difference of delivery. Sarens health bar didn't just magically recharge when you shot him, and it actually went down. Gamers are used to this, you feel like you beat the big baddie, and then an awesome cutscene happens, and he gets away. That is plot armour, makes the player feel like they accomplished something even when they didn't really.

You can barely do half a bar of shield damage to Kai Leng. And i tried, i had two Widows on the field and everything. Its on par with the white phosphorus scene in Spec Ops, except it wasn't made with the best intentions in mind.
