Going start a playthrough for an Adept soon. What does everyone suggest using as a Bonus power? I know the OP suggested what powers are good for each class. I on the fence on what power to pick.

The Following seem like the best fit for an Adept:

1. Flare: Only issue with this power is the cooldown timer, which can be long (around 7 to 9 seconds).

2. Dark Channel: Their use to be a sound bug with the power, not sure if it's been fixed. It was the reason why I didn't use the power

3. Warp Ammo
4. Stasis
5. Energy Drain

I like Warp Ammo. I can activate it once and forget it, it's always on and I already have more than enough active powers to keep me busy. And I'm always shooting between casts so I get a lot of use out of it.

That's a good point you raised brad2240.

Ammo powers.
They stay active (unless you deactivate them) and they don't interfere with your cooldowns.

Warp ammo also synergises well with biotic powers.

Thanks for the info, One last question

I just unlocked Reave, I know some say Reave is the way to go if your playing an Adept. Warp, Reave & Dark Channel seem to share some things in common.

Is Reave worth using (Note I don't have Kaidan in this Playthrough) or should i just stick with Flare or Warp Ammo.

Reave is fine if Kaidan isn't in your party because Reave cannot detonate Reave anyway. But you can combo with Javik and Liara easily enough.

The advantage of Reave is that unlike most of the other biotics it is insta-cast and cannot be dodged. It also gives you some damage protection for the duration. You can potentially use it as a substitute for an Adept's Warp.

Does anyone have a good Dominate build? Would like to try it out but have no idea what to choose for rank 5 and is 6 even worth it?

I'll private message you my dominate build since I'm trying to avoid a discussion regarding my chosen class.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

About Dominate.

Dominate and sabotage are perhaps the best of distraction abilities.

Things to note.

The dominated target will become a decoy for other foes to shoot at.
The dominated target will do one of three things: Stand still doing nothing (still useful), continue to attack you or hopefully attack the enemy.

There is no "best class" for dominate. The reason why I've suggested it for infiltrators and engineers is because of an ability called Sabotage. Hand this bonus power to infiltrators and engineers and they can turn any foe into a thrall (tempoary ally) and a decoy (a distraction from you and your squad).

All classes benefit from dominate.
But close quarters playstyle benefit less from dominate. Since a decoy should be a barrier inbetween you and the enemy.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Evolutions:

Should you max out this power? I highly recommend it. Ranks 5 & 6 provide damage over time which isn't available in earlier ranks of this power.

Evolution 4: It's up to you. Do you want duration or cooldown?
So activate both the damage over time evolutions in ranks 5 & 6. Damage over time + chance of them attacking the enemy and being a decoy, makes this power worth while.

Do not go for additional hit points and damage output. If your dominated target is harder to take down and dealing more damage, you're in big trouble should your dominated thrall choose to attack you anyway.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Dominate's limitations:

Dominate doesn't work on any synthetic enemies. Dominate doesn't have a special function that affects synthetics either.
Dominate is also ineffective against Banshees.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________

How to use dominate:

Dominate is not a substitute for your other powers. It is a suplement for your other powers.

  • Use dominate on the foe with either the greatest amount of hit points, or the one with largest damage output.
  • Don't attack your thrall (target affected by dominate), unless your thrall attacks you.
  • Attack other enemies, with your weapons, melee and your other powers.
  • Once the thrall comes out of dominate, kill it immediately.
  • Stay at a distance from the enemies. Decoys work best when they're infront of you taking all the punishment. If you're going for a close quarters strategy this power will lose it's effectiveness.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________

I hope you found these tips useful.

Here is another thread you might find interesting.

Before you choose a bonus power, it is useful to know how it works as part of a combo.

There are four types of combos:

Tech Bursts
Incendiary Explosions
Cryo Explosions

and

Biotic Explosions.

Relix28 explains how these combos work and which combinations of powers will pull of each combo.

+1 to both of you. Warp Ammo works really well particularly for shooty adepts.

Being a "caster" kind of player, I was a bit iffy about trying out the soldier class.

Then I took Flare as a bonus power.
The flare soldier seems like an adept on steroids.

I think the issue I have with Flare is that its another one of these biotic powers that shouldn't really be a bonus power. It should have been an evolution of Warp (in the same way Lash was to Pull). It's too similar.

That said, its all good fun.

I wish we can trade out some of the "normal" powers for the bonus powers. Some of the bonus powers feel redundant to already existing ones.

I suppose we could have the Mass Effect 1 system for bonus powers with the exception of being able to chop and change bonus powers on the fly.

I remember rolling an overload soldier in ME 1. (I honestly don't know which emoticon is supposed to represent being intrigued).

With Engineer I usually take Defense drone. It's not the best of all, but it's really good against husks and those little exploding spiders the ravagers release (forgot the name)

plus, it's fun to unleash your own little army as an engineer XD

I never used that power.

I guess having a sentry turret, combat drone, defence drone, along with EDI's Decoy and Tali's Drone and Defence Drone

You have 6 pets on the battlefield plus your squad. 9 allied combatants on the battlefield. Make that 11 should you and Tali use sabotage against synthetics.

+1.

True. I don't mind a bit of redundancy for flavour reasons (like Shockwave/Throw) but this doesn't work when subsequent and specialised powers are released that are available for any class. This wasn't that much of an issue back in ME1 where powers had seperate cooldowns and some classes were inherently better at certain powers than others.

As I said to Abe, powers that are too similar to existing ones should really be evolutions rather than seperate abilities, particularly given they're all on the same cooldown.

Ah. I just started a new Soldier playthrough with Lash as the bonus power. Might have to change that now. Flash for explosions instead of the frag grenades sounds like fun. What's the best evolution of Flare though on a soldier build? I expect the cooldown to be bad considering Soldiers are usually more tooled up than other classes.

Spec Adrenaline Rush for bonus power. So you can see your flare in slow-motion, benefit from more accurate firepower due to enemies moving slowly and only have adrenaline rush's cooldown.

Now spec flare for: Damage and force, detonate, improved damage.

Don't bother with cooldown. Because you're using this power during adrenaline rush it doesn't matter. As for area, flare already covers 6 metres radius. You can increase this to 9 metres. So since you already cover a large area, go for damage.

Remember, always get Liara, Javik or Kaidan to biotically prime targets before you send flare. Flare can detonate other biotic explosions.

Really?  Even on classes that primarily rely on power combos over gunplay?

Ever since BioWare released Omega, I prefer to make my Shepards as self-sufficient as possible.  I can't imagine not having Stasis on my Adept for the final Omega fight against the vast number of Nemsis dropping in on all sides while I'm busy fighting Adjutants.

Similarly, Defensive Matrix on my Sentinel has a lot more value than an ammo bonus.  In fact, I don't see how an ammo bonus power is all that effect if you prefer power usage to gunplay.

I also like Slam (or Reave) on Vanguard for self-created biotic combos and Vanguard already comes with two built-in ammo powers.

Flare on Adept
Javik Dark Chanel > Liara Warp > Shepard Flare in sequence
Try it

"Radius Inferno Grenade" on Character with "Chain Lightening Overload" skill
Throw that inferno grenade into a horde and Overload one of them
