Returning player looking for general advice/updates

I mostly played an AA with a Carni X and I tied an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. I took a look at some builds and sites and I don't even see builds for AAs on most of them, so I assume they got nerfed or better classes got released, or both. I guess I'm just looking for some suggestions on classes to try out that are kind of similar (power based, low weight, would benefit from the 200% Carni recharge until I unlock new weapons... unless the Carni is crappy now?) and suggestions for weapons and equipment. Specific builds or useful websites would also help if people feel like providing.
Lastly, did anything big change in difficulty? I see there's platinum now and a new faction, but should I be safe to jump back into gold games as an AA to get a feel for new classes/weapons/synergies? Should I adjust and level in silver? Do people even play silver anymore?
Thanks

This thread is your friend.
Yes they nerfed carni. No one like justicar now.

I'd say play the AA with your Carnifex for a while until you get used to the new level of difficulty (I can't tell you whether you'd find it easier or more difficult as players have been buffed, enemies have been buffed, your skills might have atrophied etc...)
Generally speaking, weapons/grenade classes dominate the meta-game now.
Also, if you have a Hurricane, I'd equip that instead of the Carnifex, as that has actually remained a beastly weapon throughout the DLC's.

I'll definitely take a look at the update thread, but it's a lot of reading and having some of the info parsed and opinions added is nice. That builder will be useful, there are a lot more classes now.
I should have the Hurricane, so I'll stick that on the AA and get a feel for it/get some unlocks. SMGs are actually good now? And does lightweight materials actually work? haha
I guess the torch had to pass from biotic detonations, so I'll have to live with that despite my love for the mechanic. I'll check out tech explosions too, because the powers and combos have always been a highlight of ME in my mind.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses. I'm glad to see the game hasn't died off.

Hurricane is still very unstable. SMG light material works now. Hurricanes about the only one worth using.
Biotic still good but got nerfed.Combined with warp ammo you can kill things very quickly.
check out Fury, Valkyrie for biotic death team, and Paladin for the ultimate fire and ice combo.

cryo explosions do massively more damage.
I came back pretty recently too after quitting around the end of September, and this was the change that really stood out for me. A lot of the classes that were reliant on freezing are SO much better now.

You couldn't get white onions, because of the war.
I'm honestly impressed with how busy this forum is. I figured EA would start charging for stuff and new games would come out and a game with only co-op wouldn't be this active. I'm excited for my DLC to finish downloading and to get back in there.

I also stopped playing for quite a while. Then I heard about challenges and now I have to do them all. I'm mainly doing silver at the moment to get back into the swing of things.

If you arent aware already there is a nice web interface that expands on the old multiplayer manifest called n7hq and you can find a link to on the left side of the forum.

Oh dont worry that is only the time you have spent in game, not the time spent in lobby or SP

Thanks. n7hq looks like a cool feature and checking it out showed me just how much has been added. It will be nice to be able to unlock equipment, which is new to me, as well as a ton of characters. Last time I played I was mostly getting characters I had max appearances for.

Try it for yourself, the next game you play, note how long you were actually playing.

So you're saying I got 899 hours 51 minutes of game time? Not including setting up characters, contemplating powers, buying packs, sitting in the lobby, etc? Wow. I wonder how many hours I really have invested in MP.
@OP. The AA is still a great character in gold. I used her about 2 hours ago and squashed cerberus under the weight of her awesomeness
