I would actively push for more females in MP if it means we get an EDI bot.

Oh EDI, joker doesn't know how lucky he is...

Why?

Right now, we have only two options for completely new female characters, Krogan and Turians. Salarians, Batarians, Volus, Drell and Vorcha have lore reasons to not send their valuable females onto the battlefield. Well, the Krogan used to have the same rules until the best ME character ever cured the genophage. We could argue that it's possible now because of how quickly the Krogan can spread and most female Krogan won't be able to produce offspring anyway.

Not to mention that we're still in the beautiful land of wild speculations. If there's proof for every new kit and there won't be additional female characters (and i doubt that), people can be upset as much as they want. And don't get me wrong, i welcome criticism, but most of the complaints read more like entitlement and rants about a leak that may or may not be true and hasn't been confirmed by Bioware or even dataminers.

I think you misunderstood what I meant. I'm in support of more females even though I personally won't get much use out of them.

I think the reverse question is far more interesting. Why does it bother some people that other players want female characters, or that more female characters might be added?

I haven’t read over the entire thread; is that what’s
happening? Personally I don’t care if we have more female characters or not, I
just think it’s interesting how taken aback people seem to be by the
(relatively) small # of female characters; it’s not like male-centric war is a
theme that’s uncommon in history or media, so while I get why people may want
more female characters, I also think it’s strange how upset people get.

Don't know, didn't bother to read the thread.  I'm sure it's more of the same.  But past behavior around here shows that there are just as many, if not more, people who have some problem with the addition of additional female characters.  I think it's easy to explain why people want female characters.  I think it's far more interesting to talk about why people don't want female characters.

From what I've seen, there are mainly three reasons.

1.

Mumba1511 wrote...

To stare at the booty.

2. Because a lot of dudes will take whatever chance they can to explore their feminity in an environment in which they can control, but this reason is normally disguised as other motives.

3. Female gamers have become a very big part of the community, (I have noticed the amount of female gamers who are into ME as opposed to CoD appears to be higher in terms of gender ratio as opposed to actual bulk) and so the demand for female characters is much higher.  If the new (or ME4) co-op modes involve dialogue and such, I'd expect the desire for female character to rise as it would have a larger impact.

That's just my general observation, so take it as you will.  I didn't intend any butthurt.

haven't read the thread. anyway: sexism ist still a problem, even in western societies. and then some people get caught up fighting that (mostly women), and drag that war on to every aspect of their lifes, resulting in demands for more female chars. and, cause, you know, strongest military in the galaxy, both genders equally treated, but still not a single female around? what?
aside from that: femTurians just look so damn good. and they are new and shiny, who wouldn't like something new and shiny?

ps: i actually stopped replying to your threads, TIM11, but since the namechange you make a serious impression. or you just got better.

On that note, I'd like to see a male Fury, and a male Shadow.

I'm a guy and I like to play as a guy. And when my testosterone is pumping, I like to play as a Krogan with Adrenaline mods.

Same. I feel fairly "Meh" about the addition of female characters, I'm all up for more variety, but that's it. But the amount of unprovoked nastiness that pours out on BSN whenever anything female is mentioned is very depressing.

It's definitely cause we all just hate women and want to keep them oppressed. B) Get back in the kitchen, yo.

Hardly, the level of grandstanding which comes up when these topics of gender politics crop up drives me nuts and it's the one of the rare times where I start to get blunt and call people dense and deride the daft ideas which the vast majority of the time I'm happy to let slide with some silly levity.

The one an only issue is practicality and application. DLCs are meant to maintian a stagnatiing game and draw back a deteriorating player base, by adding something new and fresh. Kit reskins and rehashing just for the sake of it, does not cut it, and is not something that BioWare will engage in for the sake of equal representation, to believe it and continually push for it is dumb and tiresome. Financing and return ratios govern what will be included, not gender politics.

As to the new DLC, they can make it completely composed of women for all I care, gender has no bearing on anything. So long as people actually have grasped that DLC is not an avenue to push the social aspect of representation, EA is a business, it's decisions are governed by the concerns of a business. Nothing more.

I should probably stop before I end up tearing into someone, I don't like doing that when it's not warranted.

I almost always choose a female to play as. I mean if Im going to be looking at something for 30+ hours it may as well be something pretty. I also never romance in games RPGs unless its for achievements ha.

Although I have to be quick to state I'm not female in real life because there are some creepy guys out there lol.

And my gal makes fun of me because all the characters I make have similar features as she does..

That said, in multiplayer I don't care if it's male or female. Just love new kits

Because Female Turians are lore friendly and we need a Turian Adept since Turians do have biotics.

Best part about this whole mess is that a lot of people here have no problem with more female characters, but aren't taking this seriously because of the people trying to turn this into some socio-political issue about gender equality.

First world problems, man.

Well for my part, as a very nerdy 30-something guy who's had time to think about this and who was picked on relentlessly through every level of public school for the double-sin of being intelligent AND having to wear thick glasses, I don't like the idea of anyone being excluded. Not having equal and accurate representation in media is damaging. I grew up in the 80s, and let me tell you that Revenge Of The Nerds did me no favors.

I think a lot of BSNers are pushing for this simply because BioWare is the one developer that has consistently been ahead of the curve in terms of depicting diversity in games. We're not trying to harangue BW, we simply hold them to a higher standard because they're just so damn good.

I'd be happy if the next DLC was just one gigantic bunch of bug fixes, upgrades to the god-awful netcode and matchmaking system.

And yes people ask for random content, but they do it because they think it would be cool, not because they think Biower hates/neglects women.

Like sobit mentioned, new things like femTurians will be wanted because its new and different. That may be one reason why "obsession" is over that possible kit

Otherwise adding Female characters in a game shouldn't be taken as a step towards equality or anything. It's no different than adding insuannon(sp). But it can be taken as a sign that bioware listened to its fans. And that its fan base is growing or changing to include more female-character oriented fans, good things.

But to pretend like adding some crap to game signifies a change in our society is frivolous at best. How many ethnicities were/are shuffled across the tv or movie screen in order for someone to say "look we're not close-minded or racists", but at the same time those ethnicities were still cut off from say having their own sitcom or movie. Or worse, even having lesser wages and recognition IRL.

You might have noticed 3 female mods here out of a sea of25-30(listed at the bottom of this page). Is that equality in gaming business world?

Point is that you can have your discussions about gaming and kits and females in games. But when you start mixing stats about in game characters and stats about the real world together...and/or get angry or defensive about them, it is no wonder why gamers rarely are taken seriously.

Huh, you've made what, appear to be, some interesting assumptions there.

That female characters will just reskins and rehashes?  That female characters will be result in a product that is less likely to be monetized successfully?   That the only reason people ask for female characters is gender politics or to push for a social agenda?

I don't see where any of your points have anything at all to do with whether or not people want female characters.

Interesting.
