Its a video game. Not RL. And don;t get me started on female equality. They only want it on half the **** anyway.

Your last point, goes beyond video-games now, and is straight up ignorance. Perhaps bordering on Misogynist

Why not? They already have the in-game models for a lot of the females so resource isn;t a problem.

Why make the same class only as a female?

What do you have against women in video games!!

Nothing.

But please. Why make the same exact class with the same exact powers only as a female.

Why make the Earth DLC, which has the same classes with Humans?

Its all about Variety, whether its the same class or not doesn't matter in that case

Earth DLC had all new powers.

I have no problem with womens rights. They just expect to be treated differently. when the want the same exact rights. But i'll stop derailing this thread, I only derail my own threads.

That's not what people are asking for. People want new characters that are female.

You'll have to pardon me for ranting, it's not meant out of anger towards you. I hope it clarifies things.

I'm a female. I like playing as my own gender. It's a delicious delicious luxury coz it's so goddamn rare I get to.

Yes, ME MP has female characters, but the additions are getting worse and worse in more ways than not.

Retalliation added 2 women in a pack of 16 characters? And they were Asari. Not that I don't like Asari, but it feels a bit like a cop out. And they're identice to the first 2 asari in appearance until they cloak, or activate AF, or tech armor. If you happen to be playing with a lot of asari, or just weren't paying attention you'd probably be forgiven for forgetting what the hell class they are!

No new powers among them (I do give points for inventive use of existing powers though), the performance isn't spectacular, no new appearances, a continued reliance on throwing powers at enemies.

I've played every female character on the roster to death, and back, and back again. They're all virtually identicle in durability which is annoying to an extreme coz they're almost all so flimsy because of it.
Almost none have weapon synergy which is annoying as HELL in a game where weapon damage is apparently the end all and be all. Throw power shoot during cool down, throw power, shoot during cooldown, pray those powers aren't dodged. I wanna do something else! I want a destroyer like character! Or a Krogard like character!

Where's the gun bunny aside from the default human female soldier? The woman that shouts "MOAR DAKKA!!!" as she guns down enemies with no need to worry about lobbing dodgeable powers?

Where's the female unit with really high barriers/shields? Considering the Asari are the biotic mistresses of the galaxy, why are their barriers so low in general? Human barriers are as strong!

In an egalitarian light, why are there banners that require you to play as the opposite gender? Some people just don't wanna. I don't wanna play as a male turian to get the asari banner.

When I picked up Mass Effect, I enjoyed it's progressive nature. Looking at it now, it's something of a shell of its former self. Women aren't even likely 1/3 the roster anymore.

Of course there's people that are flat out infatuated with the characters, which isn't their fault. Bioware knows how to make aliens that are nice to look at. The designs, the plot, the invested time, the races, the characters have been endeared to long time players, and newcomers alike.

On the flip side, they sure do know how to make ugly aliens.

I'm not gunna judge (openly anyhow) as to why someone wants female characters.

Anyway, reading the replies a bit more... I think the only females that fit into the lore are Quarians, Humans, Asari (If we consider them female), and Turians.

Not really sure how much lore says about Turian Women honestly, but they definitely seem like they could be part of the military. Krogan females... NO... Just.. no...

The codex itself allows Female Krogan to be added to MP, since one female can lay a crap ton of eggs

It's simple.

I'm a woman.

In a game where gender is an option, I want to play as a woman.

Lorewise they're still under the Genophage and therefore they wouldn't be aloud to fight. Thats even concerning the male Krogan would let them... Its also stated while on Tuchanka that the females take care of the children.

@Leonia: Completely support Turian females because they match lore. I would love to see the Volus removed... Or at least the Vanguard...

Even though there are Female Krogan battlemasters, and they still don't need all the female to take care of the children

I don´t want to get into that topic much, but the "women expect to be treated differently" argument gets really old. Image IPB

If I counted correctly, there are currently 59 characters in game. 16 of them female. Asking for more seems perfectly fine.

Choice and variety. The more the better.  In terms of Turians, the request for female versions has been pretty high since Nyreen and Omega.  Turians have no adept/vanguard kits in multiplayer.  The character model is there.  There seems little reason not to include them.

Because women play video-games too and should feel equal. They should be able to feel equal in representation.

I never really understood this argument. A videogame character is a bunch of polygons which does not "represent" me in any way, shape or form. I can, maybe, if I squint really hard, see it for the SP if one plays it associating the protagonist with him/herself, but in mp the characters are simply tools for melting faces. What does it matter if they have boobs or not? I just don't get it.

So for me, it boils down to fanboys wanting moar bum-bums and internet feminists convinced that if women are not represented 1/1 as spess mehrines, we're one step away from Taliban.

Not gonna touch the gender war with a 10 foot space pole, but I do want to comment on the characters themselves:

Both of the new Asari are actually very potent casters. The Valkyrie being a more durable Fury and the Huntress having the best power damage in the game. I know you want a woman on the council of weapons masters, but claiming these two ladies have poor performance does you no credit, since they are very solid characters.

You mention the default Human Soldier, and if you aren't against using up your ammo consumables I would like to throw the Asari Justicar in there. Reave is undodgable and makes Warp Rounds deal massive damage that is nearly on par with Adrenaline Rush(in fact, anyone with a biotic primer can do this, and the Justicar is the best at doing it).

When specced for maximum defence, she can get also effective health that is only matched by a Krogan in rage because of her 80% damage reduction, and quickly regenerating shields.

The Human Vanguard is also one of the most durable characters in the game because of her immunity frames from Nova.

They aren't the Kroguard "doesn't die and goes where he pleases" durable, but they certainly are quite durable characters. If there is a way to tank with it, I guarantee you that I will find it.

While I'd love to point out how the lore supports females, we've all seen how much weight lore holds in MP. One does not have to be a "internet feminist" to want variety. It's not that we see ourselves represented by the polygons so much as we'd like to see something other than blokes all the time. Is that such a strange desire?

These debates crop up a lot on the BSN and there's no hope in changing minds but I think we can all agree that there is nothing wrong with new characters being added regardless of gender or lore (though there may be some outcry regarding things that don't make sense). At the end of the day, it's not that big of a deal but just as some people may want to see a krogan with a hammer others would like to see more of what Nyreen showed us in Omega. That's hardly a crime.
