Hi guys, it's my first bioware game and I'm currently on ahrd mode. Any experts out there can give me some tips how to survive hard? Every battle's been a struggle so far haha. Btw is it me, or is alistair rather weak? Not much of a tank ;/

Any help would be welcomed ;D

Two things have really helped for me (on PC):

* Disable everyone's tactics and micromanage stuff yourself. If you are a genius with programming tactics you might not need to do this, but I hate trying to use an ability and finding out it's on cooldown because my own AI used it at an inopportune time. Of course, you'll have to pause constantly if you micromanage like this.

* Pull individual monsters out of big groups by using ranged attacks from maximum engagement range (the range at which monsters are highlighted when you press tab). It's amazing how well this works. You can often fight 1 or 2 monsters at a time without pulling the whole group at once. If everyone in your party has ranged attacks you can sometimes kill weaker monsters before they even reach you. Be careful not to accidentally send your melee fighters forward and aggro all the monsters.

Thanks for those tips. As for me, I have been relying very heavily on traps and poisons. They really do a great amount of damage but unfortunately, there's only so much. Sometimes I have some trouble battling groups where you are forced to face all of them at once.

Any more tips that you guys can share?

"Focus fire", ie let everyone attack the same target, kill on at a time. 4 half wounded enemies deal full damage, but 3 fully healed enemies (plus 1 dead) deals less!

I'm having a little trouble on Hard myself. I've never really been very good at RTS like micromanaging and in-depth RPG's but I love them both anyway and I'd really like to get good at Dragon Age Origins because its combat is extremely satisfying. But so far I feel as if when I finally win the fights I've been getting stuck on it's all because of luck.

Generally though I try to either take out the weaker enemies first or the strongest enemy first, as well as trying to crowd control to a degree.

Lots of stunning abilities for everyone. Dogs howl, Fighters pommel strike/shield strike, rogues dirtyfighting, mage that first freeze spell/fear spell and heal. Anything that weakens/stuns enemies is key. Started on nightmare with mage and found that freeze/fear spells are very helpful. Only lost twice since I got lazy and overconfident. Once against two giant spiders since I did not heal early enough and got webbed. The other was against lots of darkspawn and traps. Good fun and what not though.

+1

Try and use crowd control spells, abilities, or tactics (e.g. archer: shoot and run, repeat) on the tougher enemies until the weak ones are dead, then you'll clean up the tough guys.  You're stuck doing a lot of micromanaging whether you like it or not though!
