I don't think they were hidden loading screens, because as you know there was a fast travel terminal with actual loading screens, and those were amazingly short compared to the elevator times.

Well you're right about that, but imho they took too long and added too little.

ME1 omega felt bigger and better because there actually were tons of NPCs to talk to and tons of quests, REAL QUESTS to get/do.

So true. ME3 side quests are garbage.

ME3 had lots of side quests on the Citadel that was similar to the ones in ME1.

Name at least 3 of them.

Why do people bother mentioning ME2 citadel like it was some kind of failure, it wasent the main HUB? ME2 had better HUB then both ME1 and ME3, because it had multiples. They all felts unique with their set of quests and environments. You visited more of all of them on loyalty missions then every other mass effect combined. I prefered to visit the locations via these loyalty missions then have a bunch of barren rooms and planets filled with copy pasted preset bases.

I like the Citadel in ME1 more than the others, I know nostalgia has a lot to do with it though.

I agree.

B*tch please, ME1's Citadel hub alone is already bigger than all ME2 hubs combined. Honestly, ME2's hubs are not impressive at all. Though Omega was kinda cool I guess.

Giant empty rooms are nothing, you can check outside the windows of every ME2/ME3 windows and see the same, big empty rooms. You dont need to visit nothingness. I rather have smaller compact diversity then a huge bland turd. ME1 citadel lost its charm for me half way trought the game, there is no dialogue going on, nothing to discover.

ME2's Citadel only has 1 (type of) room and only 1 view on he outside (same view on every single floor). Only ME3's Citadel is visually more impressive than ME1's Citadel.

And what do yu mean "nothing to discover"? That's bullcrap. ME1's Citadel had a ton lot more side-quests and conversations to offer than ME2's and ME3's Citadel.

ME2's Citadel was small, boring and there was nothing to do there.

ME3's Citadel is bigger and there is more going on, but still, nothing to do there, except for a bunch of fetch-quests, which you actually find by eavesdropping, instead of having an actual conversation with the NPC, like you would in ME1 and ME2. <_<

I explained ME2 had more then just a citadel, thats my point. Sorry im not sure how long since you played ME1, but theres literally less then 20 quest on the citadel itself. Most are simular bullcrap to ME3 quests, but with a better way to aquire them(actually speaking to people). The rest of the citadel quest leads you in space to empty planets to visit with the mako, one of the worse part of the entire ME series.

Instead of having this huge empty places, ME2 went another route. It had less space in the HUBs. But more to them. The setting of these HUBs are also used in the missions. You visit more of the citadel in the loyalty missions then you do ever do ME1. The Hubs in ME2 are smaller, but more expended in the way of missions. You visit more of them.

ME3 quests were just terrible really. The only good thing this game Hub had was shore leaves.

Quality is more important, as the Citadel felt more alive in ME3 than any of the previous games, IMO.

Very much so. I know some people are all about quantity, but I actually like seeing the world evolve around me and change. That's one thing that ME3 really gave me, as the Citadel in ME3 was a truly evolving, changing place. People moved around, moved on, quests became unavailable over time, the conversations were pretty great too.

Comparing ME3 to ME1, ME1's Citadel feels like walking through a morgue at the dead of night. Sure, it's big, but it also feels very, very empty. And the sterility of how it was 'decorated' and all, especially that of those damn coffin-like lifts (or elevators, if you prefer), just made it... eh. I don't know. I didn't like it. It was sterile, dead, and stagnant.

Give me ME3's Citadel any day of the week.

To be honest, ME1 felt very big in general, but also very sterile in general. Exploration had never been so boring.

It's actually pretty laughable that even after more then five years of development, NPC still stand around like mannequins and others scripted to walk around in circles, at least the original Mass Effect has that random destiny ascension flyby.

Agreed. I wasn't too fond of all the fetch quests there either. You could do them quickly, sure, but there was nothing really appealing about them aside from that.
But there were some exceptions, for example the one where a salarian asked you to shoot some photos for him in Bay E24 or when an Alliance Officer wanted to kill off a caught Cerberus agent who had valuable intel and you had to choose whether you'd let the officer shoot the mole or not. Also, some of the quests that involved the previous ME2 squad took place there as well, though I agree - in hindsight, the fetch quests sadly predominated there.
(Besides, I didn't really like the whole idea of eavesdropping - I felt like sticking my nose into business where it didn't even belong in the first place.)

ME1 just felt bigger to me than the other games as you could explore alot more throughout the game. I was not a fan of when you walk by people in ME3 you randomly get a scan quest. I prefer talking to people that I choose and doing there mission if I please. I even liked the mako as it added another aspect to the game. I would rather drive the mako than do anymore scanning. I enjoyed going to a planet and needing vehicle to get around it. I do agree the elevators were the most annoying thing in ME1 but rapid travel helped improve that for me when I found it.

I think one of the things you're missing here is the function the Citadel is serving in the context of the three games. In ME1 and ME2, the Citadel was mostly a place for some small side quests (which were nicely done, mostly), but there wasn't much else to do, after you talked to everyone during the first few visits there.

In ME3 however, the Citadel is actually a place to socialize with your crew, and visiting after the big missions is always worthwhile, because there's always someone to meet or have a drink with. I think they really handled that well, because there's a real incentive to have some R&R there, with the constant mails that are arriving on your terminal ("Meet me at Purgatory/Apollo Café/Huerta Memorial..."). Best of all, the opportunities for meeting people there are "renewed" after the major missions, so you never run out of things to do there.
