It should have been, but I very much doubt it. I haven't completed any other game trilogies unfortunately, but I suspect Max Payne 3 should be much better than Mass Effect 3

Now i havent even gotten anywhere near far into ME3 (still on Mars lol)

Then it's rather premature to be making the topic statement, is it not?

Definately too soon. Just wait until you get to the end, OP. Image IPB

No offense but did you read? I already watched the endings. I know they suck

No, I just love that gif. Image IPB

Still, why the hell would you watch the endings before completing the game? Image IPB

Well back when Mass effect 3 came out everyone was raging about the endings, so i  wanted to see it for myself. At that time i never played ME, and thought i never would. I ended up watching the EC when it came out to see what they did. I got the trilogy for christmas from my bro, and anyways i heard about MEHEM and i wanted to see what they did. thats why i saw the endings

No. Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3 are better. Actually it goes more like, Metal solid 1, 2 and Guns of the Patriots in terms of timeline. That's the best, ME is great but not as good as the Metal Gear Saga.

Umm, your opinion on the ending will change when you actually get there. Too much stuff happens up till then.

There are other parts in the game itself that may affect your opinions too. My advice is stay off the forums until you're done.

Why would it be different?
The case with most people isthe factthatis came suddenly. Then a case of a difference of opinion of it's statement and what it means.

If he know what the ending is before hand and has an opinion on it, why would it change?

Definitely one of the more interesting video game universes to date. Even with a disappointing ending, there are very few of the same calibre. Most of those very few are a decade or more old.

Ha, nope. Not after Metal gear solid 2. A good chunk of it's story does not even make sense. It in the south end of weird and I'm saying this as a metal gear fan. MGS3 was it's pinnacal.

When you combine narrative, gameplay and evolution, Metal Gear Solid is hard to beat. I agree that the narrative of all the games are confussing. And the plot in MGS 2, especially the latter half is vague and strange, but it was tied up in Metal Gear Solid 4. Whatever you beleive MGS 1, 2 and Guns of the Patriots had an incredibly story arc and perhaps the greatest action icon in gaming. Just my 2 cents.

I'm glad you like the series. I can't wait for phantom pain.... I mean Ground Zeroes.  ;););)

Well ME would be the first trilogy where I actually played all three games. So, yeah...I agree why not.

What's with the Destroy banner if you haven't finished the game yet?  You said you watched the ending, but there's more context you're missing :P

I agree, the trilogy is amazing, but just wait until you play through the entire game. There is a lot going on after Mars.

I did the same thing, (watched the video on youtube) but seeing how they fit in with the rest of the narrative changed my opinion of the endings..

i saw the part where anderson spit the line. as i said, i watched the beam run and up.
Also, synthesis is stupid, its turning everyone into husks (you fought saren about this in ME1), and with shepard as the new catalyst in control, wouldnt he just start the cycles again? Control isnt terrible, but destroy is the best solution, the one i agree with most (not perfect, unless you count MEHEM)

I mean, there's more context inside ME3 that may affect your decision between Destroy/ Control/ Synthesis/ Refuse.

Edit: OK, I saw your edit.  It seems a bit premature to decide but if that's how you feel then that's how you feel.  I also prefer Destroy.

All things considered, I think Mass Effect trilogy is both the best videogame trilogy ever, and the best sci-fi setting ever. I hope the brains behind it won't ruin it like Star Wars was ruined, though.

Fair enough.  I just found it odd to have an ending banner without finishing the game is all.

Well I've played video games for a long time and if I put aside my emotions I can objectively say that the Mass Effect trilogy is surely one of the best trilogies out there. With this said however and regardless of what I think of ME3 or ME2 (as much as I can objectively look at the games I enjoyed over the years) I cannot possibly just turn my back on other trilogies I've cherished back then and still do today, which I won't name to avoid a crapstorm of comments concerning how "bad" my personal preferences are "above" Mass Effect (I mean, how would I even dare!?). But, with this said too, there's something else to consider, the pool of games that can be defined as actual trilogies is kinda small. At the moment Mass Effect is a trilogy of games, but sooner rather than later the status will change to that of a series with ME4, if not multi-trilogy arcs saga once ME5 and ME6 are completed to form a second trilogy (and we all know it's going to happen, no way in Hell it's going to just "stop" with ME4). There's been many games out there which had been "a trilogy" at some point, before seeing them milked dry year after year, release after release, to become series and sagas and whatever.

I mean, for a time we had Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, then Fallout: Tactics, which at the time I considered as "the third game" of the trilogy, without it being referred to as such of course, not officially anyway. Then "actual" Fallout 3 was released, then New Vegas, and who knows perhaps Fallout 4 at some point. The Tomb Raider series, at some point, had a third game for it and at the time we didn't know if a fourth would see the light of the day, and back then it was (as per definition) a "trilogy". The same goes with a more recent series, namely Halo, which was a trilogy but is now a series. And, well while I'm at it I could as well just go back in time and say that the Super Mario Bros. games had also been a trilogy with the original SMB, SMB 3 (I.E. the "real" Super Mario Bros. 2 as most of you guys know) and Super Mario World. And there's a bunch of others, such as Red Faction, or Silent Hill, Uncharted or Quake, Metroid (the original NES title, along with MII and Super Metroid on the SNES) or the newer ("reboot") Metroid Prime, the once-trilogy Mega Man (later series) and so... so many others, which today are either guaranteed to become series, or became as such since a decade and longer already.

The point of this is to say that describing Mass Effect as "a trilogy" is only a question of time before the definition won't apply anymore, in fact it's not a trilogy already anymore since ME4 is currently under development. But of course for the moment I certainly do consider the "trilogy" as being one of the best video game trilogies out there, that is or that has been as such regardless of its future (and that's excluding the novels by the way, because otherwise Mass Effect isn't even "just" video games).

I agree.

God of war trilogy was good, just never really evolved.
Metal Gear was just too all over the place.
Uncharted is 3 awesome games, but really no connectivity whatsoever other than Nathan, Elana and Sully being in all 3.
Gears of war. Admittedly, im a pretty big gears fan. All 3 games were great. The story was underwhelming however. Gears of war 3 ends when a certain character meets his/her demise IMO, but the game gores on for another few hrs. Overall gears just felt like it was going somewhere and never got there. wtf was the point of the queen?
Halo was good. Halo 2 was dumb though.

Overall, ME is the only trilogy that truly told a story throughout all 3 games. Its one of the only 'planned' trilogies in gaming. Most of the others i mentioned only became trilogies because the first sold so well. regardless of the endings, the ME trilogy should be looked at as the benchmark of how to do a trilogy going forward.

Oh and the whole carrying your saves over from one game to the next? When are others companies gonna start doing this...

i refer to ME trilogy because im refering to how amazing these 3 games are. Regardless of if the next games suck, these three are amzing. I prefer these 3 games over everygame IVE EVER PLAYED

i agree with everything here. except for halo 2 being dumb. LOL no offense but halo 2= best halo ever created, best story IMO.

And yeah i thought gears trilogy was really good with great moments, but the ending to GoW 3 wasnt as epic as i thought it would be, but it was good none the less

Halo 2 played great. it was a great game even. I just didn't care about arbitor. I didn't want to humanize the covenant. I wanted to kill them.
