In combat, alot of the time you have to be emotionless. If you hesitate for even a blink of an eye, your dead. Showing to many emotions hampers your performance and jeopardizes the mission making the squadmate a liability. To avoid that you leave them behind and bring someone else.
Liara doesn't break down in combat.
Did anyone else enjoy seeing Liara getting put in her place by Javik?

Except, she quite clearly can handle it. She gets upset and has a cry for a while, and then she's perfectly fine for the rest of the game. Surprise, not everyone's an emotionless stone.
In a normal universe. She breaks down after you get back, and is fine within an hour, and stays that way for the rest of the game.

In the shuttle before landing on Thessia, she started her crying. In that state she is a liability and needs to be replaced. The Night Mammoth wrote...

I would've told Cortez to turn around and go back to the Normandy to get another squadmate.

She doesn't break down though, she gets upset and continues doing her job, even saving Shepard's life at the end.

Liara would have to actually do that first.

Just like on Therum when you rescue her. You fight a krogan battlemaster and a few geth while T'Soni turns chicken.

Her job is to shoot husks and use her biotics. She doesn't fail in that task.
And please tell me what Liara did to save Shepard that no other person could have done?
Irrelevant, she still saves Shepard's life. Any other member of the Normandy crew could have done that. I'm not saying it's a feet of skill or strength.

From what I've seen posted, she had a few run ins with some mercs. That little bit doesn't qualify her for combat in any way, shape or form.spirosz wrote...

It'd be far easier to realize that not everything needs to be taken literally, people say things that don't literally denote what they mean, that are hyperbolic, said in the heat of the moment.
But it doesn't matter to me what you do. Liara fights the banshees you encounter on Thessia. She does not refuse to attack them. Just go and play the mission, or watch it.

To the argument that she refuses to fight them, yes, because she doesn't.
Rail on her character for being scared all you want, I don't mind. The whole Thessia mission is heavy handed in the emotion department.

When Shepard's standing at the mouth of the temple and the tiny violin music goes really high pitched and emotional just makes me laugh more than anything.
And, yes, begrundginly I'll admit that Liara does get really annoying, especially with that line about the Alliance providing air support, which came off as some sort of inside joke I wasn't privy to.
But the words still come from her mouth. I think she is the most qualified to tell me if she is fighting or not, and based off that line, she isn't.
