TL;DR I survived a Platinum match for the first time so that makes me a big kid now.
box of shame
Oh yeah, I know the Box of Shame is the easiet way to do Platinum, ever. But the point of it wasn't that I'm somehow a godly-awesome player now or anything, but that I actually tried something I've been scared of and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My friends used every exploit they could to help me along the way, so I could taste-test a Plat match without getting in too deep.Tokenusername wrote...
You aren't riding a bike, you're driving a segway.
You exploited an oversight in the map design to make an easy win. After playing that match, your total knowledge of how to beat high difficulties has not improved at all. You didn't learn how to play the game without that single crutch protectiong you. You shot enemies from a posistion that they were incapible of shooting back, obiterated anything that could with a flury of infinite grenades, and were on an IV drip of sheild boosts. There is no pride in wha you did, and you have learned nothing from the experience that would make you a better player.
The box of shame is appropriately named, and while I don't care what you want to do in your own privite games, don't come here and start braging about it like you accomplished something significant.

Well you could give me the best workout routine in the world and all the best enhancements, and I still couldn't win the Tour 7 times in a row. Props to the Cancer surviving world-class athlete.

You made a thread on an internet fourm about how you beat a match in platinum. You clearly wanted people to see it, thus the objective of this thread was to let people know you beat a platninum match.
I'd call that bragging, even if you don't see it as so.

I'm gonna have to side with cheez on this one. i used to play fbw/g/g back in the day. It introduced me to gold. It got me comfortable with enemy health and damage. I eventually left the "counters of shame" behind, but it was a good way to get acclimated to the difficulty.AdmiralCheez wrote...

And it's not like I didn't learn anything, either. I noticed that the bad guys had a LOT more stamina and lethality to them. To have a shot at making it through a "real" match, I don't get to bring a gun or class along just because I like it. I don't get to screw around and go full Leeroy because being even slightly stupid will get me killed. I need to be prepared for any and all enemy types, because they will come, and they will crush me if I let my guard down. Above all, I need to work as part of a team: simply running and gunning really doesn't cut it anymore, and the whole group needs to agree on and follow through with a strategy in order to survive. As someone who naturally plays recklessly (novaguard all day erry day), "playing smart" is a challenge, but it's something I need to learn if I genuinely want to be goddamn good at this game.
I'm not trying to brag. Calling myself "a big kid now" and naming the thread "Baby's First Platinum" should be proof enough that I know I'm still pretty green. Boxing Platinum is really more of a coming-of-age thing for new-ish players, in my opinion, and I thought it was a universal enough experience for former chickens/noobs/etc that it merited sharing.
In other words, I made a little progrees and tried something new today. Sorry I'm not as much of a badass as you are, but considering how far I've come since I started playing in October, I might get there some day.
Okay, you know what? Maybe I AM bragging! Maybe I'm juuuuust a little bit proud that I went from "oh god how do i even play this game even bronze is torture help me" to "holy hell platinum is terrifying but i made it through so maybe i might actually get good at this game."Tokenusername wrote...

OP, you are still failing to grasp the obvious.
You learn nothing by exploiting a map in this way, other than maybe how to reload cancel quicker, or how to use rockets.

Not a lot of people talk on (PC) PUG matches. You've probably played with more girls than you think. Just, you know, quiet ones.ThatOneAwkwardGirlx wrote...

That said, of the dozen-ish people I play with fairly reguarly, only two (not counting myself) are girls. One of them just started playing around Christmas, so it's probably her turn in the "you're really not playing platinum so stop being so goddamn proud of yourself" box next.
