Let's face it, ME:Deception is the reason no one likes Kai Leng

It's not because he's supposed to be this super-badass. My Shepard doesn't give a fk, because SHE is the super-badass.

It's not because he uses cut-scenes to defeat us (although that doesn't help his case).

It's because he ate the cereal. Dig deep, you all know it!

I thought it wasn't possible to make Leng worse than Diez did, but ME3 proved I was wrong about that.

I do not know what is wrong with Bioware's quality control lately

Worse, he is a concentrate of bad stereotypes, aggrivaring mechanics and dumb rule of cool wrapped in stupid plot armor. It is good to have a villain to hate but he needs to be hated for the right reasons

Deception Kai Leng is the Kai Leng we run into in ME3. The adrenaline junkie with an obsessively competitive and immature attitude. If they made Leng in ME3 more like the one in Retribution, a composed, intelligent and professional assassin, and gave us some better combat mechanics in our confrontation I would've have an issue with him, instead we get this guy:

And we're supposed take him seriously?

Didn't read Deception but I didn't like him cause he was meant to be a boss yet could kill him just like that! On Thessia I could easily get him down to health. When you fought Saren he bounced about etc. Kai Lame is the worst "boss" i've ever fought.

How I'd love if Kai Leng really drew a pic of Shep sucking his dick... That would certaintly make him my favorite antagonist.

He was already a terrible character in Retribution (basically a Villian sue). I just can't suspend my disbelief for him. He's one of these "super melee characters" who makes everyone an graduate of the Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy when he appears.

Retribution Leng was a great character. DK just set the bar of expectations high. Deception gave everyone a terrible impression and ME3 took the derp to a near-equal level. Now many folks take the non canon farce as gospel.

I'm writing that one down.

Anyways, I think in the novel (didn't read the last one), he was presented like a perfectly trained combatant, but nothing too over-the-top. He completed the N7 training like Shepard and Anderson, and does nothing the other two couldn't have done as well.
And he obviously succumbs to the first law of getting shot in both legs with a shotgun. Dave is one mean you-know-what.

Retribution Kai Leng was considered the Anti-Shepard and they should have used him instead of Deception Leng for ME3

Come to think of it

did Thane succumb to Kai Leng because of Worf Syndrome?

Think about it, everyone was laughing at him after deception so in order to establish him as a threat they have him kill one of the most skilled assassins in the galaxy (and said assassin goes down like a chump if you ask me....totally OOC behavior)

they really did use Deception Leng for ME3, didnt they :/ or maybe Dietz got some early game info about Leng and wrote Deception Leng based off that?

See, that's the villain I would've loved to have seen.  He's nearly intolerable in ME3, but I do so like the idea of Kai Leng being integral in the story's conclusion.

If the Kai Leng in the game had been the Kai Leng in Retribution, we wouldn't be having this discussion

Deception is the reason I love him, stealing Anderson's cereal, pissing in a vase, and stabbing someone with a toothbrush, thats pure gold.
