they really did use Deception Leng for ME3, didnt they :/ or maybe Dietz got some early game info about Leng and wrote Deception Leng based off that?

Either way they ruined another character that could have been a really good villain in ME3

Might I suggest building a castle on it.

I never read the book. I don't care for him because:

a) "No, now it's fun."
B) Little to no compelling characterization.
c) "No, now it's fun."

I haven't read that novel either and i find the Kai Leng character atrocious. Badly developed villain that seems straight out of some 3th grade JRPG with some of the worst dialogue Bioware ever put into a game. Especially his taunt e-mail is hilariously bad guess they had an intern write that during a lunchbreak...

My only exposure to KL has been thru ME3, right from the get go i had him pegged as a farcical, pirouetteing space ninja, i'm not sure my opinion of the character could be any lower.

I guess I don't see why sooo many people hate kai leng. I mean, was he better in retribution? I would say yes, but it isn't that illogical to assume he lost his **** when his legs were shot by Anderson and he wanted revenge, which ended up partially failing.

Then in deception the only woman (perhaps only thing besides Cerberus) he ever loved is killed. Probably not helping his mentality.

I felt like, at the very least, he got the job done. He was someone, after reading all of the novels, who i wanted to defeat. And I felt like ME3 did that more.

For sure BioWare dropped the ball on Leng in Mass Effect 3. He should have far better than Saren ever was, but yet he wasn't anywhere near that level.

Deception is to the other ME novels what ME3's ending is to the rest of the series....if not worse

I thought it wasn't possible to make Leng worse than Diez did, but ME3 proved I was wrong about that.

I do not know what is wrong with Bioware's quality control lately

Worse, he is a concentrate of bad stereotypes, aggrivaring mechanics and dumb rule of cool wrapped in stupid plot armor. It is good to have a villain to hate but he needs to be hated for the right reasons

Q&A can be pain in the ass if you just want to make things happen.

It's because Leng is nothing but an inflated ego.

What has he done in the game? Nothing. Did he kill the mark during the Citadel incursion, even though he had the perfect opportunity? No, gotta have to look fabulous and give the victim time to realize just how screwed it is ... woups, stalemate, not gonna be able to kill victim. BUT I AM STILL KAI LENG AND THAT MAKES ME SUPERIOUR DURRRRR!

Did he even remotely challenged Shepard in terms of gameplay? Nope, cutscene power to the max and demonic bat reinforcements in form of a couple Phantoms plus other mooks is what makes his fights "dangerous".

He's a pushover wannabie with a sword. So basically like every eleven year old youngster who just saw a Ninja Turtles movie, thinking all the world revolves around him and his shiny stick.

Kai Leng is THE worst antagonist of the entire series bar none. I may like most of the game bar the endings and even find the endings acceptable, but Kai Leng is simply atrocious writing in my opinion.
And I won't even think about Deception, that "novel" is a pile of **** with errors that make you wonder if the author actually knew anything about the universe other than its franchise name!

so what you are saying is either Bioware did not care or those who OK'd the book were just dumb?

Oh *that* Deception... That was a great book, Dietz really knows how to write, I especially loved the part with the Volus auction on Kaarshan.

I've never read deception (and never will) and I have no problem with Kai Leng. He wasn't a fantastic character either but then again, he was barely a minor antagonist.

From BW's point of view it just might have been that they had contract with book publisher for four novels. After Drew left, their main priority might have been just fullfilling their part of the contract.
