Some time ago I created a character in Character Creator, never used it for playing though. I deleted it from the Character Creator and deleted it from my online profile. Now whenever the game updates my other characters that I use for playing the one I deleted keeps returning in my online profile.

According to the Profile Diagnostics the character I'm trying to delete has the following errors: 1004, 1002, 1003.

I've had this same problem and it doesn't help. You can delete them as many times as you want. It will keep popping back up every time another character updates.

Have you verified on the diagnostics page that the character is gone?

Yup. I actually do have two old characters that never permanently deleted for some reason according to the diagnostics. The one that keeps returning isn't either of those, oddly enough.

Just like Seagloom said. It doesn't matter how many times you try to delete it and the rest of the characters seems fine, no errors there. My guess is that either the character information that stored on your computer when you create one is not completely removed when you delete it. Or there's a similar bug in the online database.

If the problem's only occurring with characters created using the CC, then it could be that's your problem. Perhaps there's something about the game that causes it to check for old CC characters and upload the XMLs whenever it gets a chance.

If you're still using the CC, you might want to consider uninstalling it. There's only two things it's good for:

1. Uploading a CC-created character to obtain the Lucky Stone item, and
2. Seeing what a new character will look like when he's not hiding in a dark closet. :o

If you've managed to take care of #1, then do you really need it anymore? Try uninstalling it, and also be sure to remove the folder of CC characters from your Dragon Age data folder. (You might want to move your screenshots folder to the desktop temporarily while you're uninstalling the CC; I remember reading that the CC uninstaller will also delete screenshots. Just be sure to put them back in the right place when you're done.)

I also had a couple CC characters that kept coming back, but I haven't seen them since I got rid of the CC and its data folder. I'm not guaranteeing that this will work for you, but it might.

I vaguely recall seeing this theory earlier and suggestions to move (delete) the character files created by the Character Creator. It is certainly worth a shot.

In my case it has occurred with characters created through the complete game. I uninstalled the CC weeks before DA was released.

Hmm, interesting. I don't see that character on your profile now. Could you post again if it shows up? Also, when you uninstalled the CC, did you also delete the character data folder it creates? The uninstaller doesn't remove that data, so if it's still around it could be the source of the returning character.

In the meantime, regarding the two characters that never permanently deleted, since I don't see them in your profile either, I'm guessing the site managed to delete the Character XML file but left other files hanging around. The information linked in my sig may help with those.

It seems to be have solved for me. I deleted all files in the folder "My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Pre-release Characters" which I assume is created by the Character Creator.

Yes, that's the folder created by the CC. I couldn't remember the name offhand. I'm glad that's solved your problem!

Alternatively, consider backing up these files to a USB Flash Drive. Not only for this, but in case of Virus defeat, or puder blow up.

Good point, Tyrax ... characters made with the CC aren't hard to remake, but screenshots take a bit of doing.

Seagloom, you said you uninstalled the CC. Did you also get rid of the Pre-release Characters folder?
