Whenever i'm running around Lothering, and later Denerim marketplace, the game will randomly crash. Doesn't seem to be triggered by anythying in particular, and recently i've only been able to get a minute or so before crashing. Often not even long enough to get from one side of the market to the other! All this  is with 1.02a patch. A few people with similar problems have fixed it by changing settings back etc, but i havn't touched anything in the system folder. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Interesting velourfog - I have the same system like yours...

However - I have exactly the same issue, even worse it deletes a savegame when I try to save somewhere at the Marketplace, Tavern or Wades Shop! Everything occured after I patched the game to 1.02a (+Download content, but this can't really have an impact on this..).

Bioware - a fix of this bug would by kindly appreciated. It's really annoying and it takes for ages to get things done in Denerim. Right now, I need to figure out how I could enter the elven slums without the game crashing...

Sometimes the easiest solutions work - After I just set grafic details and rendering to medium quality, the game is now quite stable in those mentioned areas.

Odd, I'm having a simlar issue. Right now I'm only in Lothering though. It crashes when I tried to exit the town, and then when I tried to re enter the chanty.

I just downloaded the patch so I wonder if this will help any.

(I had my grafics on very high, and have recently moved it to med. but it has only started doing this after that).

And now when i try to goto them again, my character is like "right!" and approaches it but it wont transistion.

I've got one better than that, I can play the game fine at max settings no issues. However the dragon age configuration utility crashes everytime I get into it. Now explain that one?

So, after getting the latest Nvidia driver downloaded and installed I am convinced this is a Dragon Age problem. It did not start until after the recent patch I think but I only started seeing it now after beginning my second play through and reaching Denerim for the first time. Is there a real fix or update in the fix to correct this problem!?

I am running the game under a Bootcamp install of Windows XP on an 8-core Mac Pro with 6 GB of RAM. As I said before I have cleared the game once and only now am I having this problem which seems to be widely reported. I first uncovered it as an possible infinite looping issue related to the nv4_disp file but the latest video driver, which I now have installed, supposedly fixes this possible root cause of the issue. I also can run Mass Effect and Trine without any problems whatsoever though I do understand Dragon Age is quite a bit more intensive the ME1. I am simply saying that other 3D games are working fine whereas DA:O is failing and specifically in Denerim near the Markets each and every time I go there. Not only this, with each initial occurrence of the glitch my save file for Denerim is getting fried and will not even load after the fact.

This problem has existed since release. You can cross your fingers that it will get patched in 1.03, but at this point 1.03 may never come out, considering it was "a week away" back around thanksgiving, and their priority appears to be selling new content ASAP. This is one of the primary reasons I am done with DA:O and don't plan on picking up Awakenings or what have you, I kinda got sick of dealing with this bug and a few others.

Anyway, the work around that worked really well for me was to drop all the visual quality settings as low as they go (in-game) as well as unchecking the box underneath those sliders. Post-processing or frame-buffering or something to that effect.

That should make the game stable (or at least WAY more stable) in those areas with issues, i.e. Denerim, Lothering, Ostagar, etc. What you should get in the habit of doing (assuming you don't want to play with it looking terribad all the time) is dropping those sliders down and unchecking the box anytime you need to go to Denerim, or encounter this crash and can't reload the save. Then once you get out of the problem area, you can reset the sliders.

If you crash and encounter the thing where you can't load your last save because now THAT crashes, drop the sliders in the main menu prior to loading, and you should be able to load up ok.

For reference, my specific crash that this helped with had some particular quirks:
1) Lothering - would crash upon exiting the chantry, almost like clockwork. This is pretty well documented.
2) Ostagar - would crash when crossing the bridge to get to the tower after finishing with the swamp.
3) Denerim, everywhere - completely random in any part of Denerim. Worst in the Denerim Market. If I enter the Denerim Market, walk forward, and start walking straight towards the little tent-market-circle in the center there, I will crash every time. If I walk towards it without looking at it, I can get closer, but just bringing it into view or going close to it tempts fate and increases the likelihood of a crash.

Also note for the naysayers - I monitored the living hell out of my vid-card temperatures for about a month of dealing with this, and temperatures held rock-steady, so this wasn't an overheating issue.

I've been having the same problems, they only started after i had to reformat my hard drive due to some crazy virus.
before the reformat i never had a problem, now i'm getting game crashes and graphic freak outs, any idea what i might be missing?
