:? Generalisations bro.

Maybe, but I think one could learn a lot more about elitism from that games community.

From what I've experienced and seen it seems more like general douchebaggery and huge quantities of butthurt than elitism.

I took that game away from my daughter because of the messages she got from other players.  I would much rather her play this game because, in my experience, the community is much more civil.

I've seen some stuff that comes off at being a bit elitist, though nothing that's full on elitist jerk(they'd probably have been banned by now for insulting everybody who isn't them).

Those people who got butthurt over Lone Wolf not being "earned" by people who used a Kroguard against the Geth is pretty elitist, imo.

Let's be honest here. Thanks to the Kroguard/Geth I did one of my two gold solos required for the Lone Wolf, and I have to admit it was easier than doing it with any other class/enemy. However, even with that combo, soloing gold is not a task every player can do. I don't know if this make me an "elitist jerk" or not, but everytime I see a Lone Wolf banner in my lobby I know the guy behind it is, at least, a really decent player. So yeah, no point in being butthurt cause some used Kroguard/Geth for

That's not technically the definition of "elitest".

It doesn't actually mean the most "elite" of the "elites" (although that would be funny.)

Also, it is often misused in BSN Multiplayer forums to mean "arrogant", which is not technically what it means, either.

Of course it's not the definition of "elitest", is the definition of  "elite". Not the same word.

And I agree, BSN tends to use wrongly the term as "arrogant".

Elite-noun- The choice part.  The best of a class.

Elitist-adjective- Being or characteristic of a person who has an
offensive air of superiority and tends to ignore or  disdain anyone
regarded as inferior.

If you want to be elite op, get really good at the game.  If you want to be elitist, play call of duty.

skipping that part about cod...  The jerk part comes from exhibiting the offensive air of superiority by posts in response to other posters.  Being excellent at the game is not a prerequisite .

Just start kicking players who fail to loadout exactly as you tell them.

I definitely agree with your assessment. CoD: WaW was shocking. All the more so for being my first online gaming experience after buying my Xbox Live membership.

And, in fact, CoD: WaW's multiplayer system is technically elitist, although not because of the horrible messages, but because the system literally rewards the top ranked players with better weapons and equipment.

The random, and essentially cooperative nature of ME 3 MP avoids that issue, at least directly. (Indirectly, players who perform well on higher difficulties will inevitably end up with better manifests over time, but there are variables to help balance this equation, and it doesn't discourage newer players the way CoD: WaW does.)

In response to the OP: I think first you have to have a mic. You can't be a jerk if you don't turn your mic on, let alone an elitist one.

Dont forget the ability to use every glitch/bug/trick/mechanic in the game to get high scores. This makes an exceptional gamer.

Or live in the delusion that by the developers themselfs established game mechanics are cheap or cheats and use every chance to tell the world that moronic BS.

If you...

a) kick people for having an inefficient loadout on Silver or Bronze.

B) kick people because of N7 rank, challenge rank, or banners on any difficulty

c) try to micromanage other players over the mic in PUGs (bonus points if you get mad when they don't listen)

d) complain that you "had to carry the entire team" when you barely outscored the other players.

or

e) go onto BSN, brag about your skills, and insult other people's playstyles.

...then you are an elitist jerk.

Especially if you do option E.

I've seen a few people be jerks without the headset, through their actions. I've not gotten an headset yet, but I plan on getting one. Mainly for sound clarity, but since I'm only a month into playing MP, I'm trying to grow my friends list. I've just heard random people gig me for not having good equipment or weapons.

If you're talking about ME3... I couldn't agree more. It takes no skill to kill predictable bots with repeated tactics... but you go on thinking you're the man for doing so. Posted Image

The truth is, platinum is a lot easier when playing with people on the friends list with headsets. Gold gets significantly easier.

I was just running with the OP's suggested goal of trying to be an elitist jerk... but you're right, people can get kick happy even without a mic.

Ehhh...

CoD takes skill, but the skill ceiling is quite low and it's a different type of skill than most FPS games.

Guy's aim is terrible and he sounds about 12. Girl gamers suck at FPS anyway. No elitism here, just kids being douchebags. :P

And how is it even possible to have such terrible aim in CoD on console? The autoaim is stupidly helpful in CoD...
