Co-op will always be better than competitive to me.
PVP brings out the worst in people - camping, rage, only using the easiest guns, trash talk in lobbies.

More co-op please.

This.

One of the reasons I play ME3 mp is because there is no PvP.  PvP would ruin this game, besides, rebalancing for PvP would be an absolute nightmare for the devs.  I also hope that they don't include PvP in ME4.  More game modes yes, but no PvP.

Also, if you hate the amount of nerf/buff dicussion in the forums now, just wait until you see what it's like with PvP!

(spoiler alert: It will be about 100 times worse)

Honestly there are enough competitive games as is. I come to mass to relax, after some people in Halo annoy me. With mass effect, I can have fun, without the rage.

Honestly Halo isn't even that bad.  It's the CoD people that are terrible.

If LucasArts could make Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Academy work, I don't sew why Bioware couldn't make the new Mass Effect iteration work. Similar in styles. 3rd person shooters with powers.

By default, those games are first person shooters and go third person when switching to a lightsaber. The guns in both games don't compare to the lightsaber in combat, and even if they did, the way the games are set up you can't hit the broad side of a barn in third person view.

The current formula of Mass Effect isn't suitable for PvP combat. The only way I can see it working is changing it into a KOTOR type game, and while that wouldn't be necessarily BAD, it detracts from the fast paced action that Mass Effect has become.

Who cares what the perspective is.  Gears of war is third person shooter and is multiplayer.  Again you guys are glossing over the point I made.

The point you made was about perspective.

The point I made was that Jedi Knight and Mass Effect have similar styles in that they are in a futuristic setting and it's uses guns and powers simultaneously.  Now you're just arguing semantics.  The fact that I mentioned 3rd person shooter is cause that's what it's known for.  Moving on now...

And the point of pointing out that Gears is third person is...?

And I don't believe you have ever played JO or JA multiplayer, as nearly every game played is played as either sabers ff or sabers nf. Guns rarely, if ever, come into play. As I said before, the aim of the guns is horrendous outside of first person, making the game a first person shooter and a third person saber game. A futuristic setting has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

By your logic, I could say Galactic Battlegrounds is the same as Mass Effect because it's futuristic and has guns and powers.

Your point is invalid.

I dont think I want Mass Effect PVP. There is plenty of PVP games out there. And in a PVP game, the powers like Stasis, Singularity...will either get watered down or removed entirely, which is not fun.

..and more importantly, the story has to be compatible to add PVP.

Okay now that I have some free time I can write a post.

Let's go down the list:
- There's concern that powers like Stasis and Singularity cannot work

Huh? These powers have been done before. Ever played City of Heroes? I have. I played it for a long time. We had stasis, snow storms, and much, much worse powers than that! Stasis and Singularity aint nothing buddy. How did players deal with it? Well we had counters. Ideally, the victim should be able to pop a consumable called a "break free" to get out of the "Hold" (thats what we called them in CoH)

- This game does not need PvP

True. There are plenty of PvP games. But not very many games where you can use powers. Mass Effect can fill a unique gap there. I agree it doesn't need it tho. But I think it suffered in many ways. If this game had a pvp mode then we would get features like a ranking system thast would hopefully apply weights based on our manifests

- What will PvP bring?

It can bring a lot more folks aqnd help keep this title in the Xbox live top 20 longer possibly. This terrible, awful RNG (random number generator) for Loot would hopefully cease to exist. PvPers would never stand for waiting 6-800 hours to "Catch up". Pve'ers will stand for that because they tend to be hardcore achievers. But PVPers normally hate that stuff with a passion. We should also get a ranking system like I mentioned before. So the noobs will play with the noobs and so forth. Ranking systems work great in Halo 4 Spartan Ops for example.

All that being said worry not guys I am pretty sure Me4 would never see PvP. I suspect EA/Bioware loves the RNG system. And I am pretty sure I'd pass on me4 mp no matter what if it had RNG again. Not even pvp could get me back if RNG is here again. But I am going to keep on playing me3 and enjoying the fruits of my labor :wizard:

No. Tried playing DUST and got instakilled every 20 seconds on average. I think it tried to match me up with other newbies and I ended up playing against people with clearly superior equipment.

I like co op because there are different ways you can play to help the team. Co op is more accessible because you don't have to play 12 hours a day every day for months on end in order to get good enough to actually be able to play for enjoyment. Dang, there's lots of people who play this game all the time. I don't have that kind of time and I get bored. I switch between this and Skyrim.

If it goes to pvp, that's fine... I likely won't play it.
ETA:  I won't be surprised either if EA makes it pvp.  Played the Dead Space 3 demo and was massively disappointed.  Real human shooty enemies and necromorphs that can also shoot...ridiculous.  Probably won't even buy the game.  Way to kill an awesome series.  Oh well, still can play the original.

I play Dust514 (being a former EVE Online veteran). Remember you are playing a beta product. That was something they needed to work on. The patch resolved that pretty well. PReviously, you could spawn at a control point that was in the process of being capped by the enemy team. They resolved that now. Still you have to use your head and not spawn in a risky area where you see lots of 'red dots' indicating enemies have been spotted.

I should also re-emphasize you were playing a beta product. If you would have asked a more experienced player we could have given you some tips.

There are plenty of PvP games around. I hope the Mass Effect series NEVER EVER takes that direction.

Moreover, the game is not even balanced for PvE between all the different classes and races.  Balancing for multiplayer PvP would take away from the money spent on the PvE aspect of the game.

I doubt we'll ever get anything competitive in the ME series, if just because a big part of the narrative is about races cooperating with each other for a bigger goal, regardless of their differences. Unless they justified it like Halo 4 does (ie. the competitive multiplayer being a training simulation in a controlled environment in the narrative), I don't see it happening.

Funny it's the opposite for me. I go to halo 4 to relax and have fun. When I go into Halo 4 Spartan ops (coop story mkode) I get to enjoy a really cool story complete with videos. Plus, they have a decent ranking system thats in effect for coop as well- so I get to play with my peers around my skill level. Additionally, there's no RNG trolling. Lastly, there's no sync kills. I can get killed and simply respawn over & over til I acquire victory.

I think EA/Bioware intentionally makes this game super frustrating to drive people to the store. But their little plan is backfiring. Most people that max their manifest run away from this game pretty fast. They have to keep luring them back with more grinding (Challenges) and DLCs.

I just hope ME4 is more well designed. I'd much rather pay for my DLCs if that could get rid of the store. PVP is not a big deal really. I just want a well designed MP game that is FUN. Not frustrating :wizard:

[edit] sorry guys didn't mean to start whinning / moaning. This is still a fun game obviously. Now that I said what I wanted to say it's time to get back on that treadmill lol
