Can someone point me to the mod for that, or explain how to reassign the key so it's always on?  thanks

Put a coin between the end of the keyboard and tab key.

The only key that can be on and locked is the Cap Lock Key.

The important NPCs with the big exclamation mark over their heads and glowing sparkles emanating from lootable objects not enough feedback for you?

It's mostly anything to do with codexes and the odd-ball clickable item/thing you otherwise breezed by, I did a lot of that in the Mage Tower, lol.

tried playing through Mage Tower and finding all the little notes without using tab key? thought not

sadly there is no real way to do this, there's some mods that attempt workarounds but nothing that really works. personally I ended up binding it to one of my mouse buttons and holding that down most of the time, but I use a razer naga so I've buttons to spare

i believe you can map the key to Caps Lock. There are mods to SIMULATE having the tab key on all the time, but it's not the same thing and it will miss certain items. I haven't tried it myself, but mapping it to Caps Lock seems like the best solution.

This was doable on my keyboard, however it may not be the best thing to do as it's probably not good for most keyboards.

caps lock doesn't work. it just uses up and down like every other key. it ignores ctrl and alt, so I don't know if sticky keys works. so no one's found a solution?

get autohotkey (freeware)

and create a .ahk file.

Insert:

#IfWinActive Dragon Age: Origins
Tab::
if (Stroke "{TAB down}")
Stroke := "{TAB down}"
else
Stroke := "{TAB up}"
Send %Stroke%

Now, whenever you punch TAB, it will be permanently on. Next punch will turn it off.
This works perfectly fine wth DA, and since it's only on when you're playing DA:O, you can just have the script on autostart.

Edit: Maybe sb. with webspace can host the .exe version of that script and just post it as MOD or whatever.
If you get the .exe, you don't even need autohotkey.

Have you tried playing WITHOUT using the tab key??????????Makes you try harder another good one is to run without the map on so you dont know whats around the corner. Both are alternate methods I enjoy playing, changes the whole game as well as your strategies.

Thank you :happy:
I'll attach the stand-alone .exe, if anyone is stupid interested in an easy fix.  You don't even have to restart!

This is a great alternative, thanks!

I'm sorry I used the tab key at all. I found something that I'd missed on my third playthrough and it was pretty thrilling. There'd still be lots of things to find if I hadn't used tab in many areas on my second playthrough. I won't be using it in future as I think it diminished replayability. Luckily, there's much more to the game than loot.

Maybe... when I did that with other keys for I don't remember which games, I was not in my current laptop, but in a pc with an old keyboard.

I mapped it to the key 'x' and it was pretty convenient.

Exactly the same thing I did (and to the button 5 on my mouse too). Works like a charm if you run with W and drive with right mouse button. Highlited all the time is a bit too much for me. I'd rather control when it is on.

And with the mouse button and running/driving with left+right mouse button I can have my left hand free for smoking a cig, for instance.

I have a fancy gaming keyboard (Logitech G110), and I turned one of it's programmable keys into Tab-Lock, press it and tab stays pressed :-)

(I can tap the normal tab key to unlock tab if I want to)

This is actually the first suggestion that popped in my mind when I started playing. This toggle would be very helpful to first-time players.

What I did was I mapped the tab key to an extra mouse button which is accessible by the thumb.
