I feel like the whole concept of a volus soldier kind of defeats the point of why volus were introduced. Volus function primarily as support characters, and soldiers are pretty much the opposite.

Then again, there's a vanguard.

The Volus can be in the enemy's face.
I enjoy Biotic Charging my Volguard into Atlases, running backwards firing my Raptor before charging back into them again until they die.
Seems to work well for Brutes as well.

It's almost like bouncing a ball off a wall - as the Volus does seem to 'bounce', I haven't yet been grabbed by anything, and getting a high speed Volus in the face does appear to stagger the bosses.

Why: Volus regularly have indirectly damaging powers as opposed to directly harming ones. Shield Boost is obvious. Cryo Blast (which has already been used on a Soldier so far, so it's not out of the question) sets up enemies to take extra damage as well as to freeze health enemies. Concussive Shot is a good annoyer power to stunlock an enemy while also harming them, and can take the Shatter evolution to increase its damage against the enemies you are freezing with Cryo Blast.

F-it. Put the Volus in an Atlas Mech. Give it Missile arm, Cannon arm, and Mecha Armor which gives 90% damage reduction. Passives would give him 2500 base shields with the ability to get up to 4000 plus more from Mecha Armor.

Shield Boost. Reasoning is obvious.

Wrecking Ball (curls up into a ball and insta-kills all basic enemies and seriously damages basic shielded enemies. Has enough force to stagger any enemy. When you hit a basic enemy they get thrown across the map)

Fortication. Volus Soldier needs to be tankier than the other Volus.

How about: Inferno Grenades, Arc Grenades, Lift Grenades. Wrap 'em all around the Volus with duct tape, and then other players use him as bowling ball? You've got to admit, he's the perfect shape for it!
