bioware developers are quite patient.

Toxic was used to refer to the player-bases or mechanics of a few popular games, growing into popularity until now the term "toxic" has become synonymous to "troll" as a way to dismiss one's arguments or opinions.
Again, the toxin has less to do with the opinions and more to do with how those with the opinions carry themselves. That is not to say there might not be some guilty of using the term to dismiss opinions but there is more to the discussion than this.

I don't know if that person was joking or what, but if he wasn't, then it was definitely the kind of thing only a jerk would say. And you're trying to claim that this place ISN'T toxic?
Just think about that person's comment. If that guy wasn't joking (and he might not be, given his past posts on the ME3 forums), then he's basically cheering for/hoping for the end of BioWare just because he had issues with ME3 (and/or DA2 probably) and seems like he'd actually be quite happy if a lot of people lost their livelihoods.
Yeah, the BSN is a really great place. *sarcasm*

Now you can't even have a discussion without it being ending related and negative towards bioware. Anytime you try, people chastise you for it, and than fight with people angered by the chastisement.
Everywhere but the fan creations site, sometimes the DA3 thread, and the off topic sections I would consider a hazardous waste environment.

This. So much this. You find posts like the one mousestalker mentioned everywhere. And unfortunately, I could certainly name more nasty posters than I could friendly ones on these forums.mousestalker wrote...
Some of the posters are needlessly nasty. I came across this gem not ten minutes ago:I'm not going to name names, but this sort of dismissive attitude coupled with an incorrect premise is why nice posters do not come here often.your 'choice and consequence' is an illusion, have people not realized this yet?
there is a canonical version of events. period. gtfoverit.

ME3 forums still the same, in fact, I dare say while not as loud, they have simply become more concentrated in their potency for toxic and nasty comments.

How is that any different from how its always been? Rhetorical question.
To confirm Merins statement yes the BSN was put in place shortly before DA:O's Launch. I am also one of those people that have been around the BioWare forums for over a decade at this point. Mostly lurking and reading the different views. But the river of sludge and **** one needs to wade thru has become ever deeper.
To those that think DA:O was all sunshine and flowers around here for its launch I hate to burst your bubbles. Actually no I do not because it was not. Not liking a game gives no one the right to act like some do

Honestly? Respect for other posters' (dissenting) opinions and significantly reduced hostility, especially when those other posters are developers. Instead, what makes it toxic for me is people dismissing dissenting opinions, trying to shout them down rather than actually discuss them, and act out an inability to acknowledge any perspective other than their own.
And I know I am not the best of examples but I would like to add dropping the platform and genre elitism. No you are not a real gamer because your platform of choose is X. No you are not a better person because your prefer RPGs over FPS games and it is entirely acceptable for someone to love playing both.
Also calling someone out for being a jerk instead of defending them or giving them a pass because you also don't like a voiced PC, or don't like DA2, or just agree with their point. Don't worry you can still hate whatever and point out a jerk when you see them.

Just over a year? Accept your "fresh" status.
Well, I've been here in some capacity for about two years, actually: My first thread here ever was this one, which I realize says one year, but actually was created on Feb 24, 2011.
And when I say I'm not a n00b, I confess that I'm thinking of the people I tend to see on these newer forums: the people that have come in after ME3 came out, or later on in 2012. If the people like you (who've been at BSN since its inception) even pay attention to me, not to mention considering me a newbie, I'm quite happy.

Gamers have strong connections to their games.
These strong connections can form strong opinions.
Sharing these strong opinions in a toxic environment will make a REALLY toxic environment.
In essence, the toxicity of this forum is normal.

QFT.
Bleeding Cool forums seem much more toxic than BSN.

If I may ask a question. What does Toxic even mean?
Toxic is extremely rude, belligerent, nasty, etc.
So when someone says BSN is toxic, they mean it is exceptionally nasty. Which is crap, BSN is pretty much the norm for the internet.

Everything I learn, I learn from S.O.A.D
For everything SOAD doesn't teach me, I always have Urban Dictionary.
Definition 2 seems to apply well.

That's what I'm saying. TBH, you really have to be opening up every new thread that pops up to feel this "toxicity"

You gotta admit, it's easy to start an argument in the Spoilers section and people that know how to do it will do it if for no other reason than personal amusement.
