Thank you, but I must admit I don't see what the problem is?

One might consider it emotionally draining.

Yes, but why get drained over something people do in their spare time?

If I may ask a question. What does Toxic even mean?

Toxic is extremely rude, belligerent, nasty, etc.

So when someone says BSN is toxic, they mean it is exceptionally nasty. Which is crap, BSN is pretty much the norm for the internet.

Oh so we should just accept it is a cesspool and conform to that stereotype?

[inappropriate image removed]

I like to think I try to be better then that. I like to think people in general are better then that. What is your excuse?

Because they feel some ownership. Because we all, in part, are responsible for the atmosphere of the things we are a part of.

Exactly.  Even if we don't try to necessarily influence certain aspects, we all play a part regardless.

I used to try to make the BSN a more positive place. Then I realized that people need to respect a person to listen to that person.

Plus, like most, I got sucked into the negativity a lot.

Also, if your regular time is stressful and your spare time is spent in a toxic environment, you're bound to get at least a little bummed out.

Word.  I actually troll here and there and when I actually make a serious thread, it gets looked past, oh da BSN.

OK, To sum up what I've learned.

Eh, it's more like this forum gets depressing if you spend too much time on it.

No. No more than you take seriously any one thing that you indulge in. A feeling of ownership is not "taking something too seriously."

I take it as seriously as if I was speaking to you face to face. Being behind a keyboard and monitor does not absolve me of how I act or what I say.

But I don't feel ownership.
To me, taking ownership of words and opinions is like taking ownership of every bit gound I walk on.

You don't involve yourself in every bit of ground you walk on.

What would be a better comparison is, taking ownership of say a park you live near. Go to on the weekends. Maybe bring the kids, teach them how to play ball.

Then a buntch of punk teenagers start coming by and playing loud music there late at night and leaving trash all over the place.

The BSN I know is made up of veterans like Realmzmaster and new blood like Entropic Angel. It's full of people who are passionate believers in character content like Renmiri and those who are focused on the control our own character to the finest detail like Sylvius the Mad. We have people who believe in Bioware's direction wholeheartedly like Plantiff and those who question it every step of the way like bEVEthesda. We have those with scathing, sharp sit like TheAngryOne and we have those who are a gentle balm with their attitudes like Jillabender.

Thanks, Jimmy! ^__^ Your awesome sense of humour is one of the things that keeps me coming back here, despite how depressing these forums can get at times.

I admit that I'm sometimes frustrated by the amount of hostility and snide behaviour on these forums, but I certainly wouldn't say that the BSN is a uniformly terrible place - there are plenty of awesome people here who I really enjoy interacting with.

On the subject of how to combat needlessly rude behaviour on the BSN:

And I know I am not the best of examples but I would like to add dropping the platform and genre elitism. No you are not a real gamer because your platform of choose is X. No you are not a better person because your prefer RPGs over FPS games and it is entirely acceptable for someone to love playing both.

I agree - comments that dismiss whole groups of gamers, whether they're DA2 fans, Witcher fans, DA:O fans, Final Fantasy fans, or COD fans, are definitely something that I'd like to see less of.

That's the thing though, it wouldn't bother me.
Loud music I can just block out, and I find trash no worst than mud, leaves and all the other stuff nature drops on me.

In end, maybe I'm just thicker skinned than most people.

Biowares biggest problem is that they're so easy to predict. Why do Bioware games always have to have some damned proud warrior race/faciton cliche? Why do they always have to have this one "I'm an independent woman who don't need no man and am proud to admit it" type? And that's just two of the most obvious examples.

Indeed. Why can't we have some poor homeless tattooed freak cliche? why not some beggar mutants? how about some loser like Peter Parker?

What about hawke? Started as a criminal and pretty much broke and only got out of it due to sheer luck and or willingness to trick a demon out of it's treasure.

I mean something like an arrogant scvmbag, anti-hero type of guy. Imagine you writing a fantasy-action story set in China. The protagonist is a beggar who in a very brief nutshell, is trying to prevent the world from ending. But also no Mary Sue, half Robin Hood.

It started when Bioware required all people playing their games and buying DLC to register on this forum. I'm sure this choice was made with the intent to "grow the userbase" and "increase popularity." Well, the userbase has grown, and now this place is filled with haters. I don't mean to sound like an old fart reminiscing about in "the old days" but the old forums were never this bad. The old forums had haters and trolls, but not nearly as many. The volume, the frequency and the magnitude of haters on the BSN is new to the Bioware community, since the creation of the BSN.

To be honest, I don't really care much for this community anymore. There are still a few good posters and a few good conversations, but they grow fewer and further between. As far as I'm concerned, the bad in this community now effectively outweighs the good.

Sounds like with that premise there are only 3 routes to go.

1. Luck of the irish lets him train with the shaolin
2. Really a god in disguise(happens a lot in asian mythology)
3. Dead from corrupt lord
