I would not mind to see an actual horse in the game XD I mean, you can even mention horses at the Dalish camp, so why isn't there a single one? Not that I want a mount, but just a few grazing happily or stabled at an inn or something...? Unless it is all a monty python reference... where are the coconuts? XD

Some giant birds would be nice as well. If Flemeth can shapeshift in one, she should have examples to study from, I think?

I would love to see some gryphons, but they are extinct :( Bloody dodo's!

But I think it would be interesting if you keep the beasts realistic according to the kind of animals that roamed Europe in medieval times, with some touch of fantasy if you want of course :) Although a bit cat like a cougar would be nice as well.

Griffons...please, pleeeeeeease? Okay, fine, I know they're extinct, but begging can't hurt. :P On a more serious note: perhaps evolved/Blighted forms of insect or plants/fungi that have a low-level hive mind intelligence after prolonged exposure to the taint...preferably smart enough to attack in co-ordinated swarms (well, the insects that is, unless you make the plants/fungi ambulatory).

Maybe creatures who have developed magical abilities from exposure to Lyrium. Magic that reacts to their instincts and acts as their defense, so say rather than a creature that breathes fire because 'this gland here makes this chemical that reacts like this that causes that' it shoots fireballs from it's eyes when it's scared! Or casts it's own haste spell to flee quicker!

Science mixed with magic? >.>

Nah, that wouldn't work. =/

Variations on the <insert carnal sin here> demons. The hunger demon has already been mentioned.

There were lots and lots bare breasted of desire demons, but little else of the other (the sloth demon from the mage origin was one of my favorite creatures).

Basically everything demon that is not some sort of amorphous hose-like thingy (i.e. the rage demon model).

Examples:

- MALE desire demons.

- An army of morbidly obese villagers who have succumbed to a hunger demon.

brothel run by desire demons who possesses the people who come buy.

That just reminded me of The Witcher. If there's one thing that game did well, I think it was just the sheer variety of monsters. I realize vampires are very cliche, but there's a reason for that popularity - they're monsters that are close enough to us that we can relate, not just mindless beasts. The intelligent werewolf storyline was one twist in DA I wasn't expecting for that reason. It forced the player to challenge their preconceptions about what a monster really is. I wouldn't mind seeing vampire-type bosses (NOT of the Twilight variety ) added to the beastiary of undead.

What about creatures of the fade that aren't specifically demons, just things of pure nightmare.

Actually, More insects would be cool overall, as they are generally pretty creepy.

I vote for giant Praying Mantis. Those things freak me out even as the small 1inch insects that they are in the real world.

Actually, I like that idea.

Also, I have an idea. How about instead of the normal everyday dragons you see in Origins, how about dragons that look like the ones depicted in more Asain cultures? Now that would be pretty interesting.

Wouldn't vampires just be hunger demon-possessed corpses like the fanged skeletons, only fleshy?

You could split the beast catagory into two catagories such as beast and magical beast. In the beast catogory would be your wolfs, bears, snake (new), spiders etc and in the magical beast dragons, gryphons, chimera (new), etc. one of the differences is that the magical beast catagory could, but not always does, speak and/or possess magical abilities (rare).

personally I would like to fight more magic using creature. It would give the templars some else to do then just bother good mages.

How about raiding parties from cultures outside of Ferelden? They could arrive by sea and strike inland, sort of like a viking type raid, trying to take advantage of the chaos. Speaking to Isabella in the Pearl gave me this idea. If people are fleeing the chaos by sea, there will always be those trying to profit from the breakdown of authority. They might even establish small outposts where you could interact with them if for instance you had spared the chieftains son when they ambushed you on the trail.

It would be a shame imo to have more mythical creatures than there are already. I mean, DA is already teetering on the low/high fantasy border.  Humans make the best enemies. In view of that, I'd like to see the three categories in the OP play a more limited role in the next DA story, and keep their presence more oblique in general.

But if that isn't the way things go, then the Liber Monstrorum is a pretty good resource for monsters: http://members.shaw....lk/Beowulf3.htm But I'm not sure any of them would do for Dragon Age. The Early English Bestiary is good too. Mostly for laughs. :) http://members.shaw....lk/Beowulf3.htm

Perhaps some kind of montrosity/mage that set itself up as one of the gods of the elven pantheon, leading on a rebellion? Unfortunately, that would be more of a boss than a candidate for arrow fodder. I wonder if a boggart could be implemented. Always had a soft spot for them. It could be some kind of Fade spirit. Again, they're not good for mooks.

Okay, this post was kind of pointless. But it did make be feel for the devs. Thinking up suitable monsters seems easy until you try it.

ETA: How about humans trapped in the forms of animals? Like the pigs in the Odyssey or Lleu Llaw Gyffes in the Mabinogion. Or like Melicamp the chicken!

Well if we go for beasties maybe something like a cockatrice would be awesome.

But vampires all the way.

The only thing better than a vampire?

A vampire in power armor.

More mythological creatures? Hmmm, can be done, but it's often 'jarring' finding them 'out of place' as it were. Dragons are generic, found everywhere, but chimera?

Actually I'm think chimeracal creatures could be explained by darkspawn (AKA Architech) er "experimentation".

Actually, I was thinking more animals like non-tainted boars. Maybe a mutated version of a deep stalker. And if anyone else hasn't mentioned it: ROUS... definately ROUS.

As they're already mentioned by the lore (as living beings possessed by hunger demons), and thus fit in with everything else pretty snuggly, I'd also like to see vampires.  The number of fanged skeletons my characters ran into really whet my appetite in that regard.

The rage and sloth equivalents would also be worth introducing at some point, I think.  Since "fanged skeleton" - as a name - is pretty evocative of vampires in itself, I imagine something that corresponded in a similar fashion to "shambling skeleton" would be on the cards for people possessed by sloth demons.

I'd really like to see the oft-mentioned ghouls show up, too.

And faeries. The really malicious kind. Perhaps desire-demons turned wisps that have managed to claw back some remnant of their former power?
