With all this talk of Fade possessions, I think one thing I'd love to see is a plot about a criminal who claims to have been forced to murder/rape/sell-double glazing because he/she was possessed, but in fact committed his/her crime without demonic prompting.

Don't demons only possess mages?

Plus being possessed is already an automatic death sentence for the law.

I would think that a Hunger demon possessing a corpse would create a wendigo rather than a vampire. A wendigo could be a terrifying enemy, like the rogue-class version of a revenant.  I wanna see a wendigo in Dragon Age, darnit!

Burrowing beasts of some kind would be good. Maybe a creature that resembles a giant centipede. And how about some kind of snow-stalker creature? I think something like a yeti would fit into Dragon Age's world.

The only unique creatures (by unique I mean simple beasts but without real-world equivalents) you come across in the game are deepstalkers, brontos and nugs. Well, and halla, but those are basically white deer. It would be neat to see a few more creatures like this, simple beasts but with no real-world equivalent. Also, why not some non-draconic giant lizard type of creatures? Dinosaurs and the prehistoric mega-mammals could be good fodder. Giant ground sloth with claws the size of sickles, anyone? Or how about a glyptodont, the giant armadillo with the gopher-head and the spiked ball on its tail.

Wierd existing or only recently extinct terrestrial animals could work well too, even if they have to be altered a bit for the world of Thedas. Things like Tasmanian tigers, Tasmanian wolves, or Tasmanian devils. Look at Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand and go hog wild.

We've seen what demonic possession of trees results in. We've seen what the Blight corrupting beasts results in. We've not yet seen what demonic possession of beasts results in (werewolves are not in this category, they're actually unique in the Dragon Age world as they don't fall into any of the three established categories mentioned in the original post). It would be cool to see demonically possessed animals in addition to trees, corpses and mages.

Since just saying "vampires are in the lore" isn't working, here's the quote:

Extract from codex entry: Demonic Possession

Next are the demons of hunger. In a living host they become cannibals and vampires, and within the dead they
feed upon the living. Theirs are the powers of draining, both of life force and of mana.

:P

ReubenLiew wrote...

think they can be forced into others. I know Uldred is pretty certain that he's going to be putting a demon inside you regardless of whether you're a mage or not.

I'm assuming that Mages invariably = Abominations, whereas non-mages result in cannibals, vampires, and whatever the rage and sloth themed variants are. Maybe.

Cookie Monster!

Well in a bit more of serious note, why not mutants? We got the herbalism/poison-making/magic, it's not too far fetched to see someone experimenting with something somewhere. So yeah, giant mutant dogs, giant mutant snake, giant mutant Howe haha.

Ah right, demons can use humans as vessels, like Kitty. Forgot about that.

We need griffons. At first I believed that them being extinct was a poor excuse for not adding flying mounts, but hey, dragons can fly too and they are in the game. So, I would like to see griffons reappearing in Thedas and having one as a companion(much like Dog) wouldn't be a bad idea either.

The mabari are basically giant mutant dogs. I mean, I like Dog and all, but he doesn't look really dog-like - he looks more like the Keymaster and Gatekeeper's true forms from Ghostbusters.

I like idea that there may be additional creatures to populate the new world of dragon age grabs my curiosity.

My starting point are the Dragons, the majestic icons of the Game. At times I wonder, are the drakes truly the matured versions of male dragons? I mean really?? And if so how do they copulate with fully matured High Dragons? Because surely something no bigger than a truck would have trouble mating with a monster the size of a castle.

What if drakes are just the juvenile forms of male dragons, just as smaller versions of the winged dragons exist in the game. And that there is a another kind of dragon which is the larger adult version of the drake. I imagined something that was a deadly force to reackon and linked to the pre-established concept of dragon sexual dimorphism. So I thought of the Great Wyrm, a dragonic creature that moves on all fours, no wings, but comes heavily armoured with massive spurs and spines aloing it's back, massive srushing forelimbs, huge jaws larger than the female's, and capable of breathing fire.

For those who know Tolkien and the Silmarillion, I'm imagining a creature like the dragon Glaurung, a gargantuan dragon resembling a komodo dragon, but just as powerful as a High Dragon in it's own way. Such a creature would be easily large enough to size up to a high dragon.

Due to their limited movement capabilities and reptilian instincts, they delve underground to reach other parts of thedas, as a result they are rarely glimpsed. But this brings them in contact with the darkspawn.

i won't be able to say anything consisten and useable in line with lore untill i've seen more and had more playthroughs.  and that's months ahead.
but here's a thought. how about a mystical entity in the spirit of the "DEMOGORGON" of TOB... maybe something that had a fallout with the Maker. a resident of the black city?

introduce us to a single, beyond any possible imagination, evil and scary entity of old lore and legend. frigten us as you did with the Demogorgon. yeah, my best bet would be to create a sidequest aimed to unveil the embodiment of fear, pain, powerlessnes and creepyness beyond comprehension.

Gaider... i REALLY NEED another watcher's keep experience... i so love these Bioware dungeons.
i'm a dungeon junkie. any cure?

A Phoenix...but I'd never want to fight one. Just having one exist is a powerful symbol. Natually, it would have to be a magical creature of insane power. :P Mihgt even be a mistery as to where it comes from.

But creatures I'd like to have as enemies?
Something humanoid, but extreemly agressive and feral. Something like a ghoul or ghast - fast, predatory, dangerous.

Rage demons are like fire elementals..mayhps somethng with different element in mid?

Other than that...nothing comes to my mind. I don't need massive diversity...it eventually backfires.

I like this idea.

I really like the idea of corrupted griffons, that would be a neat twist.

I also like Euranna's suggestion of added abilites, ememies that can turn members of our party against us for a short time, mages / emessaries that can resurrect their fallen comrades, expanding on what abilites enemies use right now (pinning shot / paralyze / etc.).

Are you insulting my Dog? :P

Speaking of giant dogs, though, something like the Cu Sith turning up would be awesome. And, maybe, just to make everyone really happy, it would be capable of overwhelming your ENTIRE PARTY at once!

I like how a lot of you are suggesting exactly what he said he DIDN'T want....but whatever..

and Gaider..let's be honest..the Darkspawn already pretty much comprise your Orc's, Goblins, Ogres already..seriously..the smaller ones look like goblins..larger like orcs and ogres..well..pass for ogres...so I can see why you don't want to be redundant (seriously the very LOOK of the darkspawn "horde" screams LotR Orcs/Goblins/etc)..not a complaint..just an observation

personally I'm not sure what else I'd like to see other then the ones already mentioned..elementals are high-fantasy..so that's out (rage demons make sense to look like fire elementals though.)

hmmm...could pull some inspiration from the Sword of Truth series...more underworld type monsters like Skreelings...though maybe not..the elf darkspawns kinda fit those..and the fade is kinda like the underworld so..nm...

like said..more bug types..they're typically all creepy...

kinda hard to answer without going against what you said you don't want...as pretty much everything is already covered or is too "high fantasy"

I like the phoenix idea and don't think it's stretching the world/lore too much..as it's part of our own fantasy/legends.

but yah it'd have to be a solitary thing..and preferably not killable..perhaps some kind of quest/temple/something behind it...you help it in some way..or..something..definately a good idea...but it shouldn't turn into Bracilian Forest Ents

The idea of more 'burrowing creatures', or bizarre nocturnal animals that have evolved in the Deep Roads, appeals to the setting. You could expand on the bestiary without losing the 'realistic' fantasy touch by having some more fantastic beasts like the Deep Stalkers down there. And that would keep plenty of room for inventiveness without your having to cave in and make them 'magical' creatures. These would simply be creatures that have evolved in extraordinary conditions (and, perhaps, been corrupted in certain cases...)
