How about trolls? I'm sure you could do some interesting things with them.
Say... what would happen if, oh I don't know, a werewolf were turned into a broodmother? Or a possessed girl, perhaps?

I was interested to see what your ogres looked like. Giant purple demonic looking creatures, rather than the tall bald grey brutes in other fantasy.

Now that's a disturbing thought.... Eeeee!

You also never really get to battle a Sloth demon outside the fade. I think finding yourself battling a powerful doppelganger who keeps changing to different party members and using your own abilities against you would make for an interesting battle.
Earlier in the thread someone mentioned a water/ice demon. How about a Pride demon that take the shape similar to the Great Oak Tree? Except made of ice, thicker around the chest an limb, with an aura of cold that slow your party who get close and the ablity to us Winter's Grasp and Cone of Cold against your party. It could have high natural armor, added cold to its attacks and the ability to use Massive Attack.
-From what I've read in the codex werewolves originate from a rage demon possessed wolf... I guess for a Minotaur that people have suggested you could do something similar. Though that would be a bit redundant.
I like the idea of a monstrous drake or Great Wyrm type of creature; traveling underground, rarely seen on the surface. That would be awesome.
Also, the idea of more subterranean beast that are more feline or reptilian would also be welcome. I'm also going to cast my vote for giant mantises and scorpions.
-As for a new type of creature? That's a bit trickier that is... how about natural shapeshifters?
This can be something simple as changing colors like a giant lizard using camouflage for a surprise attack and blending with the surrounding area for say 15 second to increase their defense substantially for that time. To creatures who can make greater alteration to their physical being such as growing wings to close quickly on your spell caster when he/she draws its attention or growing in size to charge your tank.
It could also grow talons for slashing then change them to claws and have them burrow underground to safety. Perhaps even give it a attack that would pull one of your characters or characters in a small area half underground so when it surfaces they aren't able to attack it until the extract themselves.
Well, that's my two cents.

On the possessed side I really appreciated the tree spirits like the Oak. Rocks are much like goloms and if anyone else remembers Obleo they can be quite scary! What about possessed vines or thorn throwing bushes?
But most of all meeting up with those other parties or groups of bandits was challenging and surprising. The darker side of humanity feeding off it's self and the consequences of dealing with it were powerful parts of the game. Breaking up or jumping in on racially motivated conflict between the humanoid races. The tension is there and it is all over the lore. There is a lot of room to grow in that direction.
edit: just wanted to add ants. Not giant ants but an entire colony of blight corrupted ants that swell up from the ground where the corruption has taken over. A mass of writhing biting spell disrupting, getting up under your armor and chewing away at you Ants!
Think of the vine idea as the man eating plant that a player is grasped by like a trap as they are fleeing blight ants.
And google the centipede that lives on St.Croix USVI if you want scary creatures. You really need to watch out for those walking around anywhere that has a lot of ground cover.

I'm a big fan of deserts. If we ever end up in a desert in Dragon Age I think giant scorpions are a must.
I'm not totally clear on how magical construct type creatures are made. I'd assume that a mage would need to bind a spirit to an object like the suits of armor in the Repository. Perhaps this could be expanded. I believe somebody already mentioned animated swords and I think it's a good idea. I loved my Enchanter in one of the EQ games and the "Swarm of Blades" pet I had.
Another mage-related monster could be the slime/ooze monsters that are common in a lot of games. The ferryman at Lake Calenhad mentions the waters around the tower contain odd things (paraphrasing here) and guesses at the reason being due to potions. Maybe these could be explained as the result of alchemical runoff and could have some kind of unstable properties about them to make them more interesting than your average slime but by the rules you laid out there would probably need to be some original creature that was affected by potions for it to work.
Last thing I can think up right now would be a lesser form of Sylvan - maybe more of an amalgam of thorns/weeds. They could have that same gnarled look to them that make Sylvan so distinct but attack in greater numbers and conceal themselves more as thorn bushes or something.

1) Displacer Beasts
2) Illithids
3) Lichs
4) Landsharks
5) Rust Monsters (although i'd hate to see this without some sort of official crafting system in place)

- Basilisks/Asphynxes/cockatrices that cast petrify
- Blink Dogs (teleportation should be possible with the sneak mechanic?) but maybe there are too many canines already
- Ankhegs - love me some plate mail
- You've mentioned boars in dialogue, I don't think there were any in game
- No felines - lions, tigers, leopards etc - roarers, rakers and shredders (More overwhelm. sigh)
- Mimics
- Jellies and oozes - that destroy weapons and armour
- Some kind of giant venus flytrap with tendrils and a swallow attack (too much like the BM with her tentacles and Grab?)
- Shambling Mounds
- Steel Golems
- Crystal Golems
- Animated Armours
- Demons of Ice - like we have Rage Demons that rely on fire? In fact - Elemental demons (Acid for hunger and electricity for pride, maybe? Though the codex says Fire and Ice are pride)
- Possessed Dragons?
Darkspawn
- Darkspawn warlords (like the ancient darkspawn or the hurlock generals - only with a team of darkspawn alphas) with corrupting abilities - each attack is like a corruption blast
- Shriek Omegas and emissaries, I'm sure are already there
- As someone mentioned on another thread - darkspawn dragons? Unless they are already there in Awakenings
- Darkspawn Monks
- Darkspawn Halla ?
We have seen dwarf politics - what about giant politics? And I dont mean the qunari - The qunari is barely a couple of feet taller than my dwarf - I mean ogre sized sentient humanoids with their own agnda etc - new races not necessarily playable.

so far i believe everything we faced walk on land, so some sort of flying creature would be nice, and gives your character one more purpose to have a bow equipped in the alternative weapon slot. also amphibious creature like crocodile would be nice too, if there are a lot of water or swamp in certain areas. i don't know if the engine needs to be modified in order to support airborne or underwater creatures though, i feel like if it was possible you guys would have done it. and more animals or insects are always welcomed.
Well, except for dragons....I like the idea of some water dwelling monstors, though.
well, dragons in this game doesn't really fly while they fight you, i'm talking about birds like tainted crows that would stay in air while they fight, the only time to melee them would be when they fly close and attack you, they would have pretty low health and comes in packs so an ideal way to deal with them would be a bow and arrows or AOE spells.

Oh, I see, Yeah, that's a good idea. They'd be especially hard to fight if they moved quickly and dealt a lot of damage.
On a separate note, I was thinking about spells that I know I've become dependant on: Cone of Cold, Paralysis, Crushing Prison and the like. Something that was immune to those types of spells as well as being powerful would be pretty scary.

I would also like to see more cinematic with demon possessions. Specifically personality differences between the demon types. Pride Demon possession seems like it could be awesome.
Rats too. We need some giant rat monsters. Preferably with a rat queen.

Cats - We've seen wolves and wardogs. What about large cats like Lions and Tigers (and bears, oh my!).
Dragons - More variety. Also, creatures that are perhaps related to dragons. We've got Drakes / Dragons,. What about a more snake-like dragon (like a Wyrm, Wyvern, or a Chinese Dragon?).
Lizards - Related to dragons, and there's a lot of opportunity for a variety of lizard styles.
Snakes - These may be hard to do, but the only snakes you ever see in games are human/snake hybrids like the Yuan-Ti. I'd like a plain, old traditional slithering snake. Again, there's some opportunity for variation here. You can go with a Cobra-style snake that spits venom, or a large constrictor that could have a special grappling attack where it squeezes you to death. Watersnakes are another possibility. Rattlesnakes could be very creepy if used properly as well.
Flying Creatures - Bats are an obvious choice. But also flying insects like a giant mosquito or or wasp. They'd probably have to act sort of like the dragons (fly around, then land and do some attacks, then take off an fly around again), but it opens up the possibility to have some enemies hidden above the PC's that swoop down and strike without warning.
Insects - We have giant spiders. Why not giant ants? Or Beetles? Or Praying Mantis?
Humans - I'd like to see more variety on humans / dwarves / elves. All of the human-style enemies look basically the same, attack the same way, and have basically the same armor / weapons / etc. Just some variety in the attack patterns would be nice. A band of tribal warriors that actually act tribal and wear appropriate skins, etc. A tough humanoid boss that's actually different (could be as simple as unique armor, or a unique spell that the PC can't learn). A mercenary band, army, cult or whatever that all wear similar attire that's different from what the PC's wear. Just something to make a few of the humanoid enemies stand out a bit more. (Star Wars is a good example of what I mean. You see a Storm Trooper, you know he's a Storm Trooper, and expect him to act a certain way. Jedi have another certain look to them, and they'll come at you with lightsabers.) I felt like all the humans in this game were exactly the same, regardless of what faction / cult they belonged to. At most, the symbol on their shield was different.
And of course, since they were already referenced in the game, Griffons.

I also though the ant idea was nasty.
And I'm not sure how to describe this, but perhaps some sort of possessed construct. A demon that possesses something dead and adds to itself by picking up bits and pieces of other dead things it finds as it goes making itself both larger and stronger with every addition. You could also go the same route only allowing the possessing entity to incorporate non-living items into itself.
The only way to truly get rid of it might be to somehow banish it back into the Fade or sever its connection with the living world. You could of course hack it into literal bits, but unless you sealed it back beyond the Veil, it could re-incorporate itself again.

Given your parameters and the lore of the world I can see a few different possibilities:
1) Giant Creatures/Humanoids. I don't see anything in the lore that would discount giants from the world. I understand that giant spiders might be the result of possession and corrupted spiders are a result of the taint. However, giant creatures have been a naturally occurring phenomena on earth, especially on islands. As such, I don't see this as discounting these as a new creature type. Also, you could have giant sentient humanoids that are not evil.
2) Lyrium Mutated Mages/Creatures: As hinted at in the Lyrium codex entry, there is the possibility for mages to become mutated by lyrium. These mutated mages might have vastly aberrant/nightmarish physiologies and psychologies. Perhaps there might even be a way for some non-mage humanoids and even beasts to become mutated by lyrium, too.
3) Animates: Spirit possessed objects, such as statues. If golems are possible though fusing a soul with a golem's shell, then I don't think its a huge stretch for someone to try to infuse a spirit into an object... such as a skull (sorry, I couldn't resist). Anyway, I haven't seen anything in the lore that would prohibit this as a possibility.
I'm sure there are more possibilities, but these were the ones that immediately sprung to mind as different "types" of creatures that seem possible considering what we know about the lore... of course your campaign setting bible might say otherwise.
Best Wishes,
Joseph

About the blight and darkspawn getting possesed, didnt the mage in wardens keep DLC say something about the blight and fade having some kind of relationship? Avernus i think his name was,
Perhaps Chasind who atacked you when you travel around the brecilian forest, the blight could have made some of them very aggresive.
Orliesian rouge Bands who still wish to take ferelden? could be interesting if you have the spoiler companion with you.
Thank you for listening and sorry about any spelling mistake i made.
