WARNING! A LOT OF TEXT!

Hi everyone,

A little story for all of you. So as some of you know I have a channel and I post vids to help as many people as I can with the harder difficulties, builds and try to at least make some challenge videos for entertainment and fun. Throughout all of this I have met some very skilled players as well. Although it has been fun gaming with them I dont always enjoy playing with them all the time as it mostly boils down to racing for top score. Even when Im not trying which is like 99% of the time. God forbid I am leading and then there are the excuses and "server crashes" etc. This is not how I like to game EVERY game.

I started out in this game as a Bronze player and then stood in silver for a very long time. Why did I stay in Silver for a long time? Because I met some really good people through this game way before doing the vids. We'd look forward to gaming with each other and talking about our days and lives. What drew me to ME3 as opposed to me continuing ranking up on Halo Reach was because the people I met in this game were real. 60 year olds gaming and kicking butt. Executives, business owners, college kids, artists, desginers and many other types who would get together in the evenings to run some biotic runs and never, do I remember us looking or caring about score. Those were the best games of my ME3 gaming career.

Come present time and when I try to mix those gamers from the Silver days who dont get to play often with the "elite" it becomes an impatience fest. Although I enjoy all my buddies who play at higher levels I do enjoy the "people" more that play this game. After a long day of work and bull and everything else....I get on my xbox and play with a few friends who just want to have "fun", connect and just unwind, laugh and chit chat while stomping marauders in the face or meleeing a Banshee's saggy....ummm..things till she's no longer annoying us with her wailing.

I think this is why a lot of my YouTube subscribers are constantly surprised that I respond to all of their messages so quickly and why I actually game with Bronze to Gold players to help them level up to Platinum. I have been a community leader in the past and enjoy meeting new people and just getting to know all the different kinds of people out there and just appreciate who they are.

This is the reason that although I play other games like Halo 4, COD and various other games that I am doing playthrough's on...I still come back mostly to ME3 because of the people I have met in the game.

If you are all about the challenge...that is awesome. I have done that as well and mostly done I think everything there is to do in this game and still thinking of doing more. The thing is....when I turn on the xbox and we play...I couldnt care less if I end up on the bottom of the leaderboard as I have nothing to prove anymore in this game. What I care about is that you had fun. I have been an open book to all the people that I game with here and again if anyone wants to play a few games just for fun and run interesting builds and non op kits to just try something new. Well... I appreciate that just as much as I appreciate a tough level 1 platinum run.

I just wanted to say that I appreciate all of you guys who I have met and have actually taken an interest on who I am and not what people "think" I am about. I also appreciate all of those who have spent their hours being such good new friends through all of this. Many of who I have actually met in "real" life because of this game.

Overall...the question is. Why do YOU play this game? Is it for fun or you just want to be the latest and greatest prideful elitist who can outscore everyone and thats what you are all about?...Which is also cool as every game needs all those types. Me.... I play for fun and truly enjoying the people I am gaming with regardless of the outcome as when you come into my lobby I dont see you as an opponent. I see you as a team mate and a most of all a "real" person.

So here it goes.

  • What do you play ME3 Multiplayer for?
  • What has kept you playing this game?
  • Have you ever made any real connections through it?
  • What is your "FUN" meter when playing this game? Or better put what do you consider a "FUN" game for you in ME3 Multiplayer? (All answers to this is fine. Even if you are all about score that is cool as well as everyone has their season in this game)

I played a couple games with you, last week I think. (Too bad you didn't accept my FR, because you're a fun person to play with, I had good laughs, even though I couldn't respond because my mic is screwed up... but I understand, unfortunately XBL has limited space on your FL). Anyways, I play for just to let the steam out after a hard day at work, most of the times I try to play with friends and it's just a good feeling, that we can mow down Collectors on Platinum whenever we feel like it.
What has kept me playing? I just love the ME universe, and since SP is...well it's fun, but only have a few playthroughs in it, till the fun runs out.

The fun meter always varies, sometimes it's just pure frustration, sometimes I have very bad days when I can't even hit a Brute from 10 feet away, sometimes I Claymore husks on Hydra from the other side of the map. And the most fun I can have in this game is with playing with a full biotic team. That's like 10/10 fun, everytime.

And I haven't really made any "real-life" connections, (meaning=meeting players IRL), but I do know one player in person, who also plays the game.

I play ME3 to have fun, like you. If we wipe in a funny way I'll laugh. I've met a lot of cool console players and even a cool PC player on these forums. I do like to have a friendly score competition once in a while, but it's not to prove anything. I never get upset if my competitor beats me. It's along the same line of fun as locking your team in the reactor during a wave 10 hack objective, or Lashing a Possessed Abomination into a missile glitcher 5 seconds from extraction. Good, clean, friendly fun.

Clearly this topic needs more Hot Fake Korean women.

Seriously, I play because

a) The gameplay is fun. Yeah its repetitive to some degree, but to me ragdolling enemies in singularity or freezing them with cryo blast or stasis, or charging something off the edge of the map never really gets old. And it will still punish you for f*cking up, so there remains an element of difficulty.

B) There's always something new to achieve. Move to silver. Move to gold. Move to Plat. Solo gold. Solo Plat. Solo Gold against every faction. Speed run plat. Play lore-friendly kits. Muck around with friends playing funny combinations. Max your manifest. Try different playstyles. Make kits work for you that you don't like. Solo gold faster. Solo plat faster.

c) Friends. Yeah I have some really cool people on my Origin friendslist that I've either met through BSN or in PUGs. They are always fun to play with and up for different challenges and stuff. Most of them are better than me but I don't really care about that. On the other hand there is also a degree of fun in PUGging...unlike with friends you never know what you are going to get and sometimes that lottery is appealing. Somehow its sometimes more fun and better when there's great team synergy between a completely random group than with friends.

MP is fun - despite some frustrations and bugs - and I only play a couple of games a day (if that) so it hasn't got too repetitive for me. For their first multiplayer, Bioware did a damn good job. I love exploding things mainly  but I do get a kick out of beating the challenges.

This is the first time I've got into the MP of any game, and that's mainly down to the cool funny people I met online through pure luck and some through the forums. There's some really nice people around here, even though sometimes the good people get obscured by some of the douchbaggery and p*ssing contests. When ME3 gets old, I'm sure I'll still be playing with the same people.

So thanks to everyone on my friends list  'Cos you guys are the best part of the game

Yup, met lots of wonderful people and hopefully a few lifelong friends. Time will tell. Otherwise, waiting for next DLC to keep the game interesting!

Oh, and the hot pink Fury.

At first it was fun and working towards the unlocks. Challenges kept it alive a bit longer. Then Mus7ang got me into this whole helping newer players progress and improve their gameplay. It's actually rewarding seeing them do well in a platinum match when only 3 weeks ago they never really touched gold.

I consider it a fun game when the teamwork goes well. I play with a couple of friends (some of them i know IRL).
Sometimes, i get a good laugh when the team make some jokes over the mic, when we are the cause of their deaths, and it ends pretty well.

This is the first game that i am active on the forums. And i get some kick-ass tips over here. I soloed my first gold today because of some of those.

Thanks to all the community of this game, you guys made me laugh and made me a better player.

At this point I mostly enjoy playing with a close group of friend due in part to the constant joing over the mic. We get into heated debates as to what is actually more deadly between a marauder or a collector captain and other nonsense like that. There's nothing funnier than a couple of marauders elbowing your friend to death as he gets up.

I have met really great people in this community as well, good friends who make this game really enjoyable, I think if it weren't for them I wouldn't be playing this.

In my life i have played A LOT of games, i play videogames since I was 5, I have internet since I was 8 and I discovered forums communities at 9, since then I've been actively on a huge amount of different forums and I must say, i never got so many friends like with Mass Effect 3 and BSN.

Some say BSN is toxic, indeed, it is, but there is great people here who makes me always play this game and people who have make me live funny and sad moments.

For example I remember when you, INVADERONE got the PC version to play with me some rounds :D, I really appreciated that man.

The people i've met here have bought me great moments in this last year.

I remember one day when I couldn't find my cellphone in my house and a friend asked me my number to call me just to find my cellphone and he's from the other side of the world :D

Or when my friend got his account hacked and I had to go to support for him because from his country he can't access to EA support, and then convince them that I was him with his info to recover his account and before that the long chats on skype about life, cockroach, females, etc etc on skype.

But you know what INVADER?, You and I have that good luck with people for the kind of people we are, if we were just elitist jerks we wouldn't have that luck getting friends and luckily for us the Mass Effect 3 community is full of good people.

Now with the questions:

What do you play ME3 Multiplayer for?

I love this game, also the fact that it brings me a HUGE amount of possibilities to try with different builds, loadout etc etc etc etc.

What has kept you playing this game?

I love the game. Also the friends I have.

Have you ever made any real connections through it?

If with that you meant real friends then yes.

I am a very very selective person, I am nice with everybody, but call someone real friend is hard for me, you know that friend is a commong word used to call everybody, thankfully I am very very good selecting people and knowing in who I can trust in, my circles are very small, people like Braconiere, GoldenErsa, Bryan Johnson and Soulriss are friends in real life, even though i haven't met them face to face but that doesn't mean i won't :P

What is your "FUN" meter when playing this game? Or better put what do you consider a "FUN" game for you in ME3 Multiplayer?

Well, I have fun playing with friends mainly when we are using something weird or not very common, I like to try things, all kind of things.

I never get frustrated playing, well, maybe last night that 10 seconds before extraction my pc gave me a blue screen of doom :/, but besides that, I have fun with almost all the things.

I started off playing MP because I fell in love with the trilogy through single player. I was like you OP, I wanted to dismantle everyone and everything, because at my best I believe I'm the best at EVERYTHING gaming. But you can't, and maintain a real life. I'd been away from online gaming for almost 10 years. I have 2 kids, I'm married and work 50+ hrs a week, so trying to maintain a balance is what keeps me from playing. I've only met a handful of people playing it but I'm currently > 100 hrs of MP right now.

I most enjoy playing a run where, with complete strangers, we're close to getting overrun constantly, but by sticking together and working as a team, we're able to pull through.

I got rather bored of ME3 MP a while ago, so it's only been a couple of months since I made a return to it, meeting new people from here and having some games, despite my manic schedule at times. But I've had a great time with them and some good laughs what ever difficulty we play on.

Even when ME3 gets old and we don't play on it anymore I'll be keeping in touch, because you guys are too much fun to lose contact with so easily. :D

I normally don't even play Multiplayer games. So why do I play ME3? At lot of the reason is because it is Co-op and not player vs player. I like the fact that it's me and others all trying to achieve a common goal instead of trying to prove how great I am because I can kill all of you. Unfortunately as you mentioned the score and how you scored still comes into play and some people come along just to prove that they are "better" by scoring the highest, but if everyone has fun, that's the main thing.

I don't know why I'm so "addicted" to this game, it's a lot of reasons, the graphics are great, and thanks to Bioware, the different characters (kits), and the different ways you can set them up (which is why I think people are watching your video's), and of course all the different weapons, gear etc which keeps things interesting. With all the problems in the game, I sometimes wonder why I do continue to play. I've always loved Sci-Fi since I was very young, so I think that has a lot to do with it also. And like you, and a few others, I've even purchased a second copy to play on PS3 as well as X-Box, so that just shows how "hooked" I am.

This topic needs more Krogan women !
-------------------

a) I can play Asari, even when they are under powered.

B) Asari

c) Friends.
Yes, i made a few friends - a few might even become very good ones - its nice to have people around that like the same things as you do.

d) Fun, hm - when they restore the Asari Vanguard to what it was in demo days...
besides of that - playing the indigo children is always fun, i just wish they would be more Asari.

Basically, ME3 MP is L4D2 in a scifi setting with possibly more replay value. Not 100% on that, but then I play ME3 on XBox and L4D2 on PC.

ME in general managed to pull me in despite my general disinterest in 3rd-person shooters and more specific disinterest in shooters of any kind on consoles.

It has entered the hallowed ranks alongside Goldeneye on N64 and Metroid Prime 1 on Gamecube in being a console shooter that I love.
Mass Effect also has the dubious distinction of being a game I first tried on PC and absolutely could not enjoy on PC solely due to its control scheme. This is particularly strange because as a rule I prefer mouse + keyboard over gamepad, with now two-three exceptions: Mass Effect and Final Fantasy XI Online (and Final Fantasy XIV Online, I guess, but that may or may not change depending on how their A Realm Reborn / v2.0 rerelease works out.)

I'll admit I kinda skimmed over OP, focusing mainly on thread title and the questions at the bottom, but I hope this more or less answers your questions, OP.

Aw.. I like this thread.

1. I play because I enjoy meeting cool people from all over the world and because most of the time I have fun. Met a group of people when I started and moved from silver to platinum with them. They even stuck with me through my GI+Claymore obsession (seriously.. used nothing but for a month or so).  So, um, people.

2. There’s always more to do, things to get better at and awesome people to play with. Some friends have moved on but always run into fun people play with. Also enjoy helping new players and get kicks from someone moving from silver to platinum. Oh, and there’s the group, too. That's a lot of fun.
3. Yes. Yes, I have. :D

4. Fun game is when I’m laughing so hard my muscles hurt.  Wipe at W1 or full exctration, I don't really care. Drop from lobbies if someone is getting frustrated and angry. It's supposed to be fun. Though I do enjoy scoring better than certain people I play with, friendly competition and all.

EDIT: Also, this is my first MP. Started playing grudgingly (how the heck is that spelled) to up my galactic awareness lol

D'aaaaaaww its not even one year yet and we're all getting sentimental

What do you play ME3 Multiplayer for?
I think I'm gonna go with the popular answer of F-U-N.... and more of that sci-fi pew-pew.

What has kept you playing this game?
Coop nature, every match is kinda unique. It's one of the games that I can say I've been able to rise from newbie bronze to hardcore plat.

Have you ever made any real connections through it?
Yes. Met a bunch of my regular friends in PuGs... Then became friends of their friends and now we're all having fun :D

What is your "FUN" meter when playing this game? Or better put what do you consider a "FUN" game for you in ME3 Multiplayer?
Lately, anything not platinum >.<  I like to PuG it sometimes because my friends are too good scrubs. :wizard:

What has kept you playing this game? Challenges, new DLCs

Have you ever made any real connections through it? Like what? Friends? if so, yes.

What is your "FUN" meter when playing this game? Or better put what do you consider a "FUN" game for you in ME3 Multiplayer? Having a friend play with my team, making Jokes, spamming Missile Launchers on hopping Phantoms, saying that we don't know how to dance with Phantoms, Banshee just want a hug, Spamming MIssile Launcher on a Guardian, because of his shield, etc

What do you play ME3 Multiplayer for?

For fun. Pure and simple.

What has kept you playing this game?

I love it. I enjoy playing my favorite kits over and over ad nauseum, and I enjoy playing around with less familiar kits just to try and see if I can make them work with my playstyle. Chasing challenges has been an extra element of fun, too, because it's made me leave my comfort zone on a lot of weapons and kits, which has led me to broadening my tastes.

But no worries, Turian Sentinel + Mattock is still my BFF. Image IPB

I also enjoy playing with the friends I have made.

Have you ever made any real connections through it?

I feel like I have made some very good friends over the game, yes.

What is your "FUN" meter when playing this game? Or better put what do you consider a "FUN" game for you in ME3 Multiplayer? (All answers to this is fine. Even if you are all about score that is cool as well as everyone has their season in this game)

Fun for me is having a laugh with friends and occasionally getting a chance to be "the hero". I still get a thrill from averting a curbstomp by Overloading the trooper, then swooping in for the revive... or rocketing that Praetorian that was about to munch a friend's head off... or even just the little things that might go unnoticed, like seeing a friend get staggered from behind by Hunter and I quickly Overload it and take it down so my friend can continue his run to the next spawn point.

A teensy bit extra fun if I can outscore my friends. Just because. Image IPB

1. I'm having so much fun with the game, even after playing it for nearly a year (I started in the demo days). The move to Platinum in particular was huge fun for me. I had a few BSN buddies who I used to play Platinum with, but they stopped playing this game (one of them is now back, and it's a blast playing with him again). Now I'm playing Platinum regularly with Spectre X folks.

2. The variety of the playable characters. Anyone who played with me recently could see that I switch characters after every single match. I have 7-8 "preferred" characters on rotation, but I play every kit regularly.
Plus, I just love the ME universe, I always wanted to play as a Salarian and a Krogan.

3. Real connections as in real life, no, sadly. I do have a few people that I chat with sometimes, but I never met my XBL friends. Mostly because most of them them are living on the other side of the world, haha. Hungarian ME players are hard to come by in PUG games.

4. I love it when a team has synergy. When Platinum came out we formed a "silent" platinum players group with some BSNers as most of us didn't have a mic. We beat Platinum for the first try; it was our 3rd or 4th game together. It was so satisfying; it was said that Platinum is impossible to beat without communication. We proved that wrong.

Now that I have a mic, I try to talk here and there, but I'm not really confident about my English (though I have no reason for that lack of confidence as I have English as a major in university). I'm just not really used to talking while gaming.

I do not really care about score, I just try to be a teamplayer.

Invader, let's catch a few games sometime, it was fun playing with you last time!:)

i don't post on BSN very much but i do have a good group of friends ,half of them come from the ME2 strategy/build forum because we were about the last ones still posting and putting up videos before ME3 Demo came out.
Then i met a few from PUGs and also through Legion Effect Teamspeak members.
Those people do keep me coming back to MP ... but then i hardly play other games.
Lately i had come a bit tired ( or kinda burnt out from the challenges) and picked up SP again and i'm having a great time with it. .. had forgotten how good the dialogues are. Yeah some can be very generic but then you come across a gem of a reply and it cracks me up.
However after 2 weeks of not playing MP i came back to it and spend SP/MP about equally.
And i came back because i was missing playing with friends frankly , and that can't be taken for granted . .. friendship is not static, it needs maintenance ;)

I enjoy PUGs .. sometimes a really top ( and even famous) player pops in and after he ( she .. and sometimes i suspect "it" ) leaves i think " ok, i don't know how to play this game" ... and of course proceed to forget all about it.
