Well for fun and relaxing gameplay with my friends mostly. Multiplayer is so addictive in this game because it feels challenging but at the same time the whole matches and packs still feel rewarding enough to keep it interesting. Of course a major credit goes to Bioware as well because they keep adding more awesome stuff to the game and make it more varied in objectives as well and all the DLC is free!
Then lastly it is this amazingly good, friendly and dedicated community that opens your eyes for new playstyles, keeps up the good overall spirit up and when I read about ME 3 MP games or watch videos about it, it just makes me want to return to the game over and over again.

I play mainly for two reasons.

1. I love the ME universe, it's races, characters, locations, weapons, etc, etc. I'm a RPG gamer at heart, and I love a good story, which unfortunately MP lacks but the SP game has...well, at least 1 and 2 did. ME3 is pretty weak on story.

2. My FIL loves ME also, it's the only RPG I've ever gotten him to play for more than an hour or two despite buying him several of the best RPGs. And he loves MP. If it wasn't for him I'd have moved on months ago. Unfortunately for me, when the Collectors/Bombers/Dragoons appeared he went back to Bronze and won't venture out again. And while I enjoy the camraderie, Bronze just isn't that much fun for me.

Fun, socialise, try new stuff.

After this long, there's very little to prove. I only play now because i still enjoy it, and trying more and more weird stuff: My Volus full-melee build, or Shockwave-surfing Shaman for example.
But overall ME3 multiplayer is a nice chilled change from online vs shooters, no pressure, just enjoying the videogame aspects.

I still need to do a platinum solo:  just because it's there.

2. There’s always more to do, things to get better at and awesome people to play with. Some friends have moved on but always run into fun people play with. Also enjoy helping new players and get kicks from someone moving from silver to platinum. Oh, and there’s the group, too. That's a lot of fun.

Ditto that, I've been playing since March last year and pretty much got onto the MP straight away.  Was a die-hard CoD addict before then but I can honestly say I've not put a CoD disc into the PS3 since ME3 too permanent residence, lol.

Just in the last few days I have joined the AHF group for the PS3 and it's made it all the more fun for me as I can actually play with like-minded players from BSN who I can "trust" and chat to - and hopefully play more Gold and, in time, maybe Plat too.

I have met really great people in this community as well, good friends who make this game really enjoyable, I think if it weren't for them I wouldn't be playing this.

In my life i have played A LOT of games, i play videogames since I was 5, I have internet since I was 8 and I discovered forums communities at 9, since then I've been actively on a huge amount of different forums and I must say, i never got so many friends like with Mass Effect 3 and BSN.

Some say BSN is toxic, indeed, it is, but there is great people here who makes me always play this game and people who have make me live funny and sad moments.

For example I remember when you, INVADERONE got the PC version to play with me some rounds :D, I really appreciated that man.

The people i've met here have bought me great moments in this last year.

I remember one day when I couldn't find my cellphone in my house and a friend asked me my number to call me just to find my cellphone and he's from the other side of the world :D

Or when my friend got his account hacked and I had to go to support for him because from his country he can't access to EA support, and then convince them that I was him with his info to recover his account and before that the long chats on skype about life, cockroach, females, etc etc on skype.

But you know what INVADER?, You and I have that good luck with people for the kind of people we are, if we were just elitist jerks we wouldn't have that luck getting friends and luckily for us the Mass Effect 3 community is full of good people.

Now with the questions:

What do you play ME3 Multiplayer for?

I love this game, also the fact that it brings me a HUGE amount of possibilities to try with different builds, loadout etc etc etc etc.

What has kept you playing this game?

I love the game. Also the friends I have.

Have you ever made any real connections through it?

If with that you meant real friends then yes.

I am a very very selective person, I am nice with everybody, but call someone real friend is hard for me, you know that friend is a commong word used to call everybody, thankfully I am very very good selecting people and knowing in who I can trust in, my circles are very small, people like Braconiere, GoldenErsa, Bryan Johnson and Soulriss are friends in real life, even though i haven't met them face to face but that doesn't mean i won't :P

What is your "FUN" meter when playing this game? Or better put what do you consider a "FUN" game for you in ME3 Multiplayer?

Well, I have fun playing with friends mainly when we are using something weird or not very common, I like to try things, all kind of things.

I never get frustrated playing, well, maybe last night that 10 seconds before extraction my pc gave me a blue screen of doom :/, but besides that, I have fun with almost all the things.

Mi casa si su casa. <3 I do also agree there are a select few that if they messaged me, and needed something they know if it is in my power it is theres, even if not in my power I would do my best to give it to them like I would with the few RL friends I have. I try to treat everyone I meet with kindness, and compasion, but for people like Redjohn they get the full me,because redjohn and the couple other are amazing people worth knowing. All the best adjectives in the world through all the languages can not cement into worlds how amazing my inner circle of friends are:) Volos hugs :D So in short yes, the people are the reason I bother loging on to both orgins, and continue Friday ME3 drinking games.

What do you play ME3 Multiplayer for?

Fun of course:). Although I do enjoy outscoring PUGs. When playing with people from the PS3 Alliance Hazard Force/Friends I don't care about score.

What has kept you playing this game?

The videos from Xcalizorz, and later your videos. I pre-ordered the game, beaten the SP 3-4 times, played ~100 hours of MP and then I got bored. But after the Retaliation was released, he started posting video's showing all the new stuff and I really wanted to try it out, so I started playing again.

Have you ever made any real connections through it?

Nope.

What is your "FUN" meter when playing this game? Or better put what do you consider a "FUN" game for you in ME3 Multiplayer? (All answers to this is fine. Even if you are all about score that is cool as well as everyone has their season in this game)

A fun game to me is a game where everybody manages to do some damage, and where everybody helps with the objectives.

I play because its fun and a way to pass time besides watching TV. I find it relaxing (unless I'm getting stun locked by a stupid Prime) and challenging.

I have NO freggin idea why I keep playing ;) I should be completely bored with it by now but it helps that Bioware came out with the challenges and the DLC's and that has kept me playing.

I haven't actually met anyone in person but I have met quite a few that I enjoy playing and laughing with on there. Its rather nice when you're home on a Fri/Sat night cause you have no life and you can hang out with other people but not really ;) People from all over the world. Its great!

A fun game for me is when you can laugh with the others, make fun of each other and how poorly or well they are playing and no one gets bent if you die all the time or steal their kills ;) When you can do crazy builds, guns or run around like a crazy person and no one cares.

Great topic and I've enjoyed playing with you H, you elitist you ;)

I play ME3 b/c there hasn't been anything that's come out since that grabs my attention the way it does.

What has kept me playing this game? The people. I've met at least 50 really cool people playing ME3, some of my favorites are: Kocka, Devil, Floyd, ManBearPig, WizeMan, Blissgirl, and even Ashen Earth. Honorable mention to Mobius... the Canadian singer/comedian. His renditions of 4-non-Blondes "What's goin' on" will live with me forever... well... not really.

My fun meter is usually at a 8-9, when poo hits the fan and things go really bad is when it's a 10 (unless I'm the one who got sync killed).

1. Fun. All I want is a good time. I would load up the disc if I wasn't enjoying the game.

2. I just love the variety of classes and weapons I can chose from.

3. If you are asking if I've become real life friends with people I play this game with, then that is a no. This game however is the reason I have a nearly full friends list and some of these people I play with almost every day.

3. I just like it when things go smoothly. Or fail in a terrible yet hilarious manner. I like themed games. All Volus, all Drell, all typhoon. I like firebase hazard against collectors. I'm really just looking for something to laugh at.

I'm a sucker for graphics and being able to see my character third person (with some customization). This game also has really solid handling and controls and it has a lot of replayability.

I played a couple games with you, last week I think. (Too bad you didn't accept my FR, because you're a fun person to play with, I had good laughs, even though I couldn't respond because my mic is screwed up... but I understand, unfortunately XBL has limited space on your FL). Anyways, I play for just to let the steam out after a hard day at work, most of the times I try to play with friends and it's just a good feeling, that we can mow down Collectors on Platinum whenever we feel like it.
What has kept me playing? I just love the ME universe, and since SP is...well it's fun, but only have a few playthroughs in it, till the fun runs out.

The fun meter always varies, sometimes it's just pure frustration, sometimes I have very bad days when I can't even hit a Brute from 10 feet away, sometimes I Claymore husks on Hydra from the other side of the map. And the most fun I can have in this game is with playing with a full biotic team. That's like 10/10 fun, everytime.

And I haven't really made any "real-life" connections, (meaning=meeting players IRL), but I do know one player in person, who also plays the game.

I'll make room for you for sure.

What do you play ME3 Multiplayer for?

I play for fun, it`s my only real online game. By real I mean, do you remember back when the Arcade XB came out, there was a free game in there called Crimsion Skies, I had bought the XB for my son and daughter, I was an RPG, PC player, mainly the Rise of Nations series. Anyhow my dad was an AF fighter pilot, thus my GT, I also flew aircraft very early in my career but my love was Corporate Finance. I digress....skip forward to April, son (now in 20`s) was home for the long weekend, we spoke of my love of ME, he said hey dad this has a multi player, why don`t you play it....I was very hesitant I think because of age but what the heck. I am semi retired but have always been a kid at heart, this game has been one amazing ride.

Skip forward to today, manifest has been done since Sept, Challenges complete since December, what to do....It struck me in December, I am very active on this forum, I think the number one complaint has always been the store, then we have the constant complaints about PUGS so I decided to offer to help others into higher levels, watch them grow and unlock items they do not have, all I can say is WOW this has been rewarding. I started helping players from BSN and still do however I have expanded that into PUGS, it too is being a tremendous reward.

I also did a shout out here on BSN in December, wanted to add a few Plat friends as I wanted to beat that level on every map, now myself and a few others from BSN help people that were silver or gold players play Plat, working as a team it`s easy, and everyone is rewarded, in different ways.

Am I out to save the MP-PUG world......not at all but I have it in the back of my mind I can make a difference, that is the mission I have accepted.

What has kept you playing this game?

Switching it up and friends, friends mainly from BSN.....in all honesty I doubt I would be here or playing this game today had it not been for them, and the reasons above.

Have you ever made any real connections through it?

Not sure what you mean by real, do I have friends I look forward to playing with every day.....yes without a question, I guess in a small way you become attached. I would like to list who they are however I would be afraid of leaving someone out and hurting someone`s feelings, I think they know who they are, I thank them for the games we play and I guess my closing wishes after an evening of playing has always been, it`s been a pleasure to have played with you tonight, have a super evening for what`s left if it and a great day tomorrow, I say that and mean it.

What is your "FUN" meter when playing this game? Or better put what do you consider a "FUN" game for you in ME3 Multiplayer?

Learning, learning from loosing, theme runs I would have never dreamed of not too many weeks ago taking a kit I thought was, well not going to make it in my hands, and mastering a level with it, same with weapons, fun is seeing someone else grow, hearing someone laugh when they unlock a weapon, kit or level up, in short helping is funny in a way, I play this game with the same attitude I have in life basically giving back.

In closing, I was thinking the other day while plowing snow and my MP journey, it reminded me of a comment back in the 80`s when I received a promotion at a bank with no idea how I was going to handle it, a SVP said to me ``Andy, surround yourself with a team that is better than you, you can`t loose``, it took some time to fully understand what he was talking about, but in my various finance career`s I did, man it paid high rewards, I carried that into MP back in April with the same results.

Edit...And OP you may not remember but we gamed a very long time ago, around the time Lady snoo snoo posted on the forum an amazing video with MP theme operations, I joined that group, you helped me through a few gold theme runs, they were a lot of fun.

What do I play it for?  I enjoy the gameplay, and the match format is nice, so that when I want to take a quick gaming break it can be just - 15-20 minutes of fun, then there's a clear "finish" so I can get back to work. :D

What has kept me playing this game also answers the third question.  People I met in PUGs eight months ago have since become genuine friends.  We talk about our day, learn more about each other, laugh our heads off, develop "in" jokes, and care about each other.  ME3 MP is essential hang-out time.  Though most of my friends can play any difficulty, we usually just play Silver to relax and unwind together.  For me, it's become more about the community than about the game itself, though the game itself is still inherently fun.

A "fun" match is tied to that - it's all about the people in it.  I suppose that also means, honestly, that they are like-minded in terms of why they play.  I've played with people who were obsessed with the leaderboard, and they were nice, but we haven't played since, because our definitons of "fun" didn't match up.  Last night, I was introduced to some lovely people in Platinum, who were extremely skilled players but also really nice guys who just wanted to hang out and laugh and were very kind to me and my spectacularly average skills.

How much fun I have is also affected by whether or not my team can laugh when things go horribly wrong.  I don't get intense about gaming, so it wigs me out a bit being in very intense lobbies.  Of course I like it when things go well, but if I'm playing with people who think it's the end of the world when things go bad, that's no fun for me.  When I'm in a PUG that isn't acting as a team, that also makes my "fun" meter bottom out.

At first it was fun and working towards the unlocks. Challenges kept it alive a bit longer. Then Mus7ang got me into this whole helping newer players progress and improve their gameplay. It's actually rewarding seeing them do well in a platinum match when only 3 weeks ago they never really touched gold.

It's fun for us, too! :wizard:

Playing this game (paired with herbal remedy), is the most effective way for me to decomp after staring at a 13.5" monitor all damn day. When my brain is fried from converting number systems and translating binary and any other base form numbers, all I wanna do is make stuff fly off of the map.

OP, great thread.
i hope this reaches the epic length that it deserves.
great reading.

i play this game for the sheer variety of builds and weapon options. each combo forces a different playstyle and i'm addicted to mastering them all! this was my first MP game, and after hearing all the horror stories about the other famouse MP games out there, i must say that even with the occasional jackass pug this community is still great! i've met some great ppl and added them to my friend list. (you all know who you are)

real connections: yep. plenty.

what's tips my fun meter in game?
doing well in a room with a kit that ppl think is unconventional or unpopular has been a blast lately!!!
i helped some ppl get their killstreaks this weekend that hadn't really even done any gold. very satisfying! stuff like this keeps me coming back.

I play it because I'm having fun in every game, well except where the bad guys are waking across the sky again. Even if we go down in wave 9 it was probably fun until I got sync killed.

I stayed playing Silver for a long time as Gold always seemed too serious. Until the last couple of weeks I've always PUGed or played Bronze matches with my son. Which is funny as hell if I get sync killed. There's this high pitched "NOOOOOOOOOO" as he comes to avenge me. Any others must be really bemused by it.

Managed to get a fair sized friends list now though there are many I've not been able to play with yet. Having fun in Gold now, I don't mind sometimes coming bottom as long as I'm enjoying it. Fortunately happening less and less.

Edit : I'm having fun even if the others aren't.  I have never rage quit ever, I have left a couple of matches when lag is so bad that I'm jumping about from point to point but I usually give it a couple of waves just in case things settle out.
I don't like leechers but I'll give my all regardless.

I've tried getting 'social'. But even people on my friend list rarely invite me, and when I'm in an inviting mood they're either offline, or don't reply. 99.9% of my ME3 Multi experience has been with PUGs....sadly.

As for the whys.

Well, one round is satisfying and relatively short. The payoff is tangible and feels good- compared to MMORPGs which, by the time you're done grinding, you have to wonder why you even bothered.

Also you can just promote the character and do over even better.

I WISH I had a regular squad base to work with...but in the meantime I'm still pretty okay with things as they are.

Refreshing post.

1) I play for fun. I enjoy trying to find the most fun ways to build and equip the variety of kits.
2) See #1. Also, I play because it's one of the few 'box games which I'm not too bad at. Used to play Halo Reach, but I pretty much plateaued in my ability and usually just got my butt kicked. ME3 I have good games & bad games, and can hold my own on Gold, and it's not the exercise in humility that Reach was. Definitely prefer the co-op nature of the game.
3) Met a couple of cool folks from BSN here.
4) Funometer is usually around a 7 out of 10. I had a couple of friends who used to play, and it was great fun with them. Any multiplayer is always more enjoyable when I'm playing with people I know and we get to chatting and goofing around. Would be open to getting to know more BSN folks.

What do you play ME3 Multiplayer for?

Currently Friends and the goal of a Maxed manifest, and it's fun

What has kept you playing this game?

Well when my friends all stopped playing after resurgence not much kept me playing the game until I decided to play a couple more games, then it was the constant support and free DLC that got me playing. and currently it is the drive to have a maxed manifest but it is my new friends many of whom post here on BSN that really get me to keep playing this game.

Have you ever made any real connections through it?

I believe so.

What is your "FUN" meter when playing this game? Or better put what do you consider a "FUN" game for you in ME3 Multiplayer?

My fun meter is usually around 8-10 can dip when having a bad game but I rarely ever find myself not having fun playing this game. A fun game for me is to play with friends and do mock challenges like all asari runs or all drell etc... I do like seeing myself high on the scoreboard but not for the wrong reasons i enjoy seeing myself score high because I see it as growth, I was once a pretty ****** poor player but I had this need to want to be the best player I can, but most of all it is to get "paid" and earn the credits for the team if i have to score 240k to get the team its credits fine for me failure isn't an option.

I play ME3 because it's co-op. I always wanted to play through ME with another person, and while I didn't get exactly that, it's still a pretty good option. The reason I'm still playing it even a year later is because it is the best multiplayer shooter I've played in the last decade. As far as fun goes, I would rate it around 8 out of 10, mostly due to the occasional bugs that crop up and the repetitiveness that gets to me sometimes.

But as for friends, there's no one that I really consider a friend here.

I play ME3 becuase I love Mass Effect. Its as simple as that. Posted Image I have met a ton of awesome people through playing MP. I actually got an Live account just so I could play this game online. I regret nothing. It has been a gateway to other games also.

A fun game in MP for me is chilling in a party, laughing around and joking whislt kicking enemy butt on gold or platinum. Sometimes the laughing and joking gets a bit out of control but I would rather be having fun with my friends and failing miserably than being bored in a successful game with a bunch of elitist pricks who think they are too good to speak to you.
