Do you guys think it is an insult for the team to add a narrative difficulty similar to Mass Effect? I know to me, the combat feels more an integral part of the game than mass effect, with all the different armor statistics and powers and whatnot, but a even lower difficulty couldnt hurt for those solely interested in the story.

I ask this because i have a friend who is literally HORRIBLE at video games, but i got him hooked on Mass effect and he played through the trilogy a couple of times, obviously on the lowest difficulty. He thought the narrative difficulty was the greatest thing that could have happened, because he didnt care at all about the combat.

And here we are with dragon age 3 coming up. I have recently shown him DA:O saying he might want to look into the series before Inquisition comes out, cause (dont rage at me!) i told him it was pretty much like mass effect, just in fantasy times. He's interested, but the combat is just a little tough for him to get a hold of. I even admit, i turned the difficulty down to casual for the High Dragon on top of the mountain fight, and i still thought it was hard.

So what do you guys think, would a narrative difficulty destroy the game, since there seems to be a lot more small skirmishes and fights than in mass effect, and would that ruin part of the experience to make it so a Ogre General or something dies from one fireball? IMO, even casual difficulty in dragon age feels significantly harder than casual in mass effect, maybe its just a suck at that kind of game, idk. It just seems harder

Narrative Difficulty means supremely easy. Its for people only interested in the story and could care less about the combat and just want to blow past it

Could you clarify what you mean by "narrative difficulty"?

Think he means ME3's insanely easy difficulty.

It means game play for those more interested in the story than the combat aspect. TBH I think IF you could learn to tweak the tactics you'll be okay on casual but you're right casual is more difficult in DA:O and DA2 than in ME the series.

As someone who despises the combat in Dragon Age as repetitive filler, I say a narrative mode would improve the games.

If it's in PC cheats code exist for those who only need to live the story without having headache about tactics. They are originally made for those who are testing the games.

I was thinking that while Origin was good DA2 was in a very low level of gameplay concerning fights. Difficulty level exists too in DA. But again try the immortality mod if ur friend is only into the story, at least he wont die.

Well, he would play it on the xbox, or xbox 720 or whatever console its gonna release on, so thats why i think a "narrative difficulty" could be a good idea. I might even play on that difficulty...........the combat to me gets pretty repetitive, mainly because theres like a thousand tiny skirmishes for every mission in DA:O. Cant remember what its like in 2, cause i played it through once and disliked it

I don't think it would destroy the game but I don't think they should make the combat skippable or obnoxiously easy with one hit kills on enemies, as I think that would lessen the drama or something.

There were already difficutly settings for easy and hard and nightmare, and if someone can't do easy, they have two options. They can practice, go slower, read online guides, and essentially train to get better... or if they are on PC they can just use the console for cheating.

As for the high dragon, it was supposed to be a more difficult fight as it was optional.

Anyway, I don't think a "story mode" would hurt the game, but imo it would hurt one's experience of it. Just like I think the mode where you just play the combat and have the game auto make decisions for you (...ya, me3 kinda did that anyway...) would also hurt one's experience of the game.

Didnt even know that lol. I died like 5 times, moved it down to casual,  *cough* diedtwomoretimes *cough* before i finally beat it. Even on casual, it insta killed zevran every single fight. I totally specced his abilities and whatnot wrong lol

No, lower (and higher) difficulty levels won't destroy the game.

There is no reason for somebody who wants to play the game to not find a difficulty setting that allows them to do so enjoyably (the lack of which causing them to quit the game or simply grow to dislike it). I hope there will be a narrative difficulty, as well as a better range in the different difficulty settings (DA2 was better than Origins, but the highest difficulties still ended up being more gimmick than challenge IMO).

Yes, it's not something that was intended for you to fight the first time you went through there.

Ideally, you'd come back much later in the game and kill it; during the first trip to the ashes, you just walk past it—it's comfortable up on its perch and doesn't care when you come and go (though I don't remember what you do when you eventually do want to ****** it off).

I honestly don't see the problem with this idea. It lets those who wish to just enjoy the story and not be bothered about the fights so much and doesn't impact on those of use who will try out the other difficulties.

Oh, I thought it was something about using skills in conversations and being able to fail.

Carry on then.

Why would that be a bad thing?  Is time for time's sake a good thing?  Some people would probably just want to experience the story and not dwell on the combat which doesn't interest them.  If the extra time is solely spent on the content they have no interest in, then what's the point?

Pretty much this.

Game length has never been a selling point for me.

These "Bioware, let's talk about [insert subject]" thread titles seem really condescending.

Seems more like a running gag to me. Just shows how bored the community is, waiting for more info.

As long as the typical difficulty levels were kept I would be fine.

Most likely and who cares? If MichaelStuart decided to use this narrative difficulty for his playthru it would not be affecting yours. It is just one more option that's all.

You blow Kogrim's, or whatever his name is, horn.

And, yes, that was a really really dfficult fight for someone not used to tactics. In fact, just DA's style of gameplay is very difficult, at least was to me, if you don't know what you're doing.

So while I can't disagree with your request for an easy mode (though I cant say I like the idea personally), if he plays through a couple, or even just one time on the lowest, I gaurantee he'll get better.

It isn't twitch. If he can think, he can do well. He doesn't have to be fast.

It's just my opinion. If you were talking to someone who works at Bioware, that's one thing. But you're talking to other BSN members. Why not just say "Let's talk about difficulty" or "DA3's difficulty"? Who are you trying to impress with your thread titles? Image IPB

when I fought the high dragon, I did at level 18

Narrative mode in ME3 is extremely simple. I stood in front of a banshee without taking much damage.

As someone else posted, when playing on casual just go slow and use guide books. Or play as a rogue and use bow and arrow to give yourself some distance between you and the enemy. Now, this will not work in all situations.

If narrative mode is added to DA:I, I probably would use it, then on my next playthrough I would go on a higher difficulty.

No, I don't think it is an insult for the team to add a narrative difficulty similar to Mass Effect. As long as the regular difficulty levels are there, I don't think an extra step either way is going to hurt me.

I guess people can, but im thinking about someone like my friend, who is the casual of casuals. He doesnt want to bog himself down with learning to many tactics and weaknesses for each enemy. I get that it is a large part of the experience, but an easier difficulty setting or maybe just more of a tutoral explaining most of the essential game mechanics will go a long way. I know i had no idea what most of the numbers in the menus meant, and i had no clue what those "physical resistance check/mental resistance check" and all that meant until well toward the end of my first playthrough
