seems like a waste of time and money.I play games for enjoyment, not to pat myself on the back and then post looking for praise!

If you read the thread, you would see I played it numerous times, enjoyed the story, listened to everyone, did everything. And had lots of fun killing darkspawn.

I wasn't posting looking for praise. I was just merely pointing out, if you don't sit there and listen to people talk, the gameplay itself is around 11-15 hours.

Then you might want to make a proper title for the topic. Even just that short part "lol" gives the first impression that you're actually thinking the game sucks.

And this "So I guess dialogue takes up 60 hours, so the game only has 10-11 hours of gameplay lolol." Makes you just look like an idiot. How is dialogue not gameplay? Are the battles the only thing that matters? If the conversations were videos, then you would be right. But they are not.

Well they pretty much feel like videos to me as I have to sit there and have them squak on for hours.

;D

To my mind, the greatest RPG speed run was for Morrowind (7 minutes). After finishing that game after well over 100 hours, to find that someone had cooked up a way to do that was just jaw-dropping. Even if RPGs are for fun, kinda have to respect the ingenuity.

You might want to change the genre. Play shooters, sport or strategy games. RPGs have always had and hopefully will have lots of dialogue. Without the dialogue telling the story it would be pretty pointless to even play.

So actually the game has gameplay worth of at least that 60 hours.

Think about DA:O if it didn't have ANY dialogue or cutscenes. You would just be running through the origin, knowing nothing about what's happening. Suddenly you are fighting darkspawn, which you know nothing about. Then you're saving the world, which you know nothing about. You have companions, that have never spoke anything and you don't know why they are there... And when the game finally ends, you don't even know what actually happened. Other than the fact that you killed others for some reason. Doesn't  sound that interesting? :) If it actually does... I don't know what to say...

I don't know about that. Metal Gear Solid does this, Dragon Age is more interactive. Every line of dialogue actually matters since each line both reflects your choices and determines what your future choices might be. Never do I feel the game is lecturing me or simply feeding me mindless exposition. For someone who enjoys the aspect of role-playing in an RPG this element is very entertaining. I'm just sad my dalish elf doesn't get more chances to insult the Chantry...sigh.

I'm not sure if that qualifies as hard core game play but it sure is fun and that's certainly something every game should strive for.

I understand this, but when you play it for a third or fourth time, I personally don't want to hear the same mess, as I know the plot. And your choices in a lot of dialogues doesn't even matter, theres only a few key dialogue moments that affect a major outcome as far as I could tell, that would have made a difference. For instance, my first playthrough I wanted to kill everyone and be evil, but it didnt even matter, all the people I could kill, didnt affect anything major plot wise. All it did was not open up pretty much merchants or quests. But after you've played it several times, you know okay option "A"  will produce this outcome and option "B"  will produce this outcome, on those actual dialogues where it matters.

I am by no means saying, screw everyones squaking nonesense on your first playthrough, but when you're playing for a 4th time, I don't need to sit and hear the same exact things, even if you played a different race, the outcome of choice A and choice B are the same with every race, it's just differently worded.

It still doesn't mean it wouldn't be gameplay. You're just getting bored, and doing speed runs is one way of getting more out of the game. Just don't say "dialogues are stupid lolol". :)

I agree with most points. The dialogue does mostly become repetitve. However there are a few key things you can learn about the plot and lore through certain dialogue choices or different origins or circumstances. So sometimes it does pay to sit through and make a different choice or two. But I myself make liberal use of the esc button.

On a different note, I know this guy with the last name Reinhart.

Most of the responses in this thread remind me of why I more or less stopped coming to this site.

The OP states facts, and gets a bunch of tantrums and smart-ass attitude in response. Some things never change.

Just beated the game on PC yesterday, normal difficulty, and took me 97 hours! But I am the type of person that explore every single map, kill every single enemy and talk to every single NPC that I am aware of :P

I also completed almost every side quest, except two I think, one was call "The dead caste" which I missed in the Deep Roads and didn't want to go back just for it lol, too much running :P...Another one was the "Exotic Method" which required master poison making >.<

Anyhow, I would like to give my comment to the orignal poster, regarding beating the game in 11 hours.

Romanced Allistair, Zevran.

Got Morrigan's, Allistairs, and Shale's fourth tier inspiration abilities (magic / constitution / str).

300 some odd codexes found.

Every
single side quest done, everyone that was possible.. for instance in
choosing a king, you can't do a few from the other king's side. Even
did every codex quest, adventure bodies / body parts / topsiders hilt /
jammers cache, etc. etc.

Traveler achievement.

Normal Difficulty.

I also skipped all the dialogue, as I found it boring to listen to a 2nd time.

So I guess dialogue takes up 60 hours, so the game only has 10-11 hours of gameplay lolol.

Don't
get me wrong I love dragon age, I am about to do another playthrough,
but I just found it funny. I wonder how many hours is actually spent
listening to dialogue.

This was also on console with dexterity
bug, so I went archer rogue, full cunning build. enough dex around 27
or so to use farsong with equipment + tomes in circle tower.

Heres pictures to prove since everyone seems to request it

I am working on a way to record a runthrough as well

see this for a context to speed runs: http://speeddemosarchive.com/

First of all, I would like to reflect on the point that you completed every side quest, I counted my list and I completed more than 120 quests+side quests, so lets do a rough calculation:

Lets say each quest (side quest or main quest) takes 10minutes to complete, and lets say the total number of quests is 120 (which you claimed to have completed all), in addition to this you have also completed "The Stone Prisoner" DLC quest, so this make 121 in total.

121 quests x 10minutes = 1210minutes = 20.2 hours

So how can your claim be valid? I truely don't know...

Secondly, I actually do believe that one can beat the game in 11hours, or even under it, but definitely not beating it to the extent you claimed! Beating it in 11hours should involve skipping all fights and all side quests possible. Considering the screen shot you have posted, you have 562 gold at the end of game, and spent 2555 gold in total, that mean in the whole game you've gained 3117 gold! This indicates that you must have been opening chests and looting bodies, which are time consuming tasks.

Lastly, you claimed that your player was at level 21 by the end of game, which just so happen that my player was at level 22, and I did almost every fighting possible to gain EXP, and donated alot of money in camp, so again this shows that you have been actively engaing battles, which could also take some time at some stages in the game.

So to sum up, logically thinking I reckon beating the game to the extent that you've claimed in just 11 hours is impossible, and you would have to record a playthrough in order to convince me^^.

Meh - can't see the point of speed runs, you miss all the other stuff. So you did it in 5 minutes. Big deal.

seems strange that you go on about speed runs and yet you don't seem to want to provide any proof i think this thread should be locked and deleted so the troll doesn't get all the attention they need to lead a happy and fuffilled life

I am currently attempting this with my dwarf, Jayne. I am doing another run simply so I can do the US, and Leliana can sing "The Song of Jayne".

I know. I'm the hugest geek ever.
